Welcome Alicia. I have a friend that goes to Cal Poly SLO. He is majoring in landscape archictecture (or something like that). I visited last May and what a lovely town.

message 104: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) Hi! My name is Caity and I am a senior Film and Digital Media major at Baylor University in Texas. I will be graduating with my BA in May and I am not really sure what I want to do just yet. I do know that I love photography, videography, and writing a lot, and traveling is more than a small passion for me. My favorite types of books are fantasy, but I also read thrillers, biographies, sci-fi, historical fiction, and some plain jane modern-day fiction, as well. Although I have never studied abroad in the usual sense of the word, I lived in the Netherlands and Germany for three years each when I was little and attended my first three years of elementary school in the Netherlands. Sadly, I do not speak German or Dutch, but I have been to about half of Western Europe and the Dominican Republic (went there on a mission trip when I was 16).

message 105: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Welcome to the group! Fantasy is my favorite type of book too. Do you have a favorite book/author?

Merry Christmas! (or at least it will be here in about 20 minutes)

My general favorites are Sherwood Smith (I absolutely adore her book Crown Duel), Tolkien, and Rowling. I'm a bit of a Harry Potter maniac, and am almost as obsessed with Lord of the Rings. I also absolutely LOVE Brandon Sanderson. I'm reading Warbreaker right now (the e-book version is the same as the first edition that got printed in hardback, only free) and am having a hard time stopping long enough to go to bed.

message 107: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments You're only like the third person I've talked to that has read Sherwood Smiths books! And I just read my first Brandon Sanderson book, Elantris. Loved it!

Elantris was my first, too! I read it shortly after it came out and fell in love. I could barely wait for Mistborn to be published. Sadly, college gets in the way of my reading a lot, and this coming semester won't be much different - 19 hours, auditing a course, and I'm fairly involved on-campus. But then I'll be graduating, and things will be just ducky as I try to find a job.

message 109: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I LOVED Crown Duel and Court Duel! And I've been wanting to read a book by Brandon Sanderson for a while now. Where in Holland did you live? (just curious, since I live there too :) )

Ciara | 6 comments Hi everyone, my name is Ciara :) I've been in the group for awhile but haven't participated at all or really even checked out the page (shame on me!) so now I am trying to get involved. I LOVE reading and always have, just trying to find time for it these days is hard. I went to UC Davis for my undergrad work and after a three year hiatus I am back, just started a PhD program at UCLA so looks like I'll be in college for a loooonnng time haha. Looking forward to reading and discussing some of these books with you guys!

Thanks guys!I will be doing research science for my PhD, in particular Molecular Toxicology, not sure what my focus will be on quite yet, possibly the relation of parkinsons disease to pesticide use. So much to learn, such little time!

Welcome Olga!! Congrats on getting married!! What age group do you plan on teaching or do you have a particular subject that you want to teach?

message 123: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Welcome to the group, Olga! You like to scrapbook? I've always admired people that scrapbook and keep up with it. I've tried several times but I just can't stick with it. I love how creative people can be with them.

message 124: by Olga (new)

Olga (omrodriguez) | 9 comments Thanks Jamie my degree will be in early childhood through six grade but I would love to teach in a first grade classroom! The little ones are a handful, but I think i have enough energy for them.

Kimberly. I love to project scrapbook. Give me a purpose and I become obsessed with it until Im done. It can be overwhelming, but try doing it for a certain special event or as a present. It is definitely worth it.

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone, my name is Denise- 20 y/o and currently living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Right now I am enrolled at Hawai'i Pacific University and working on an AA in math. Long story short, I was diagnosed with two auto-immune diseases a couple months after graduating HS and did not feel comfortable having to leave the home nest while learning to juggle multiple daily injections. I really think online schooling blows, but I must finish what I started. *sniffles!
I was lucky enough to find this site through google a few nights ago. I literally have no friends interested in reading and hope I can chat with a few people about books every now and again :)
Kudos to Jamie for making this group easy to navigate through!

message 128: by Whitney (new)

Whitney | 3 comments Hello, My name is Whitney and I've been in this group a long time without making a post. I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully get to know a few people since we share a common love of books. I'm 22 y/o and I attend Texas A&M University. I majored in biology for 4 years and switched to sociology this past summer. If all goes according to plan I will be graduating in May & I still have no idea what I'm going to do with my life. School doesn't leave me with much time to read, so I have stacks of books just waiting for my attention. I like so many different genres, but I love short stories and biographies. I look forward to reading and discussing some books with you guys.

-Whitney

Whitney | 3 comments Kimberly wrote: "Welcome Whitney! So you started in biology and then switched to sociology? What made you choose those areas? "

Well, I chose biology because I wanted to be a doctor and make some good money. Apparently that's not a good reason to be a doctor. Sociology was my minor and it was really the only thing that I found interesting. Now I just need an internship somewhere.

Taya (tayawoy) Hi everyone! My name is Taya and I'm a 25 year old student from Canada. I'm currently finishing my second university degree this April and, obviously, I love to fit in some reading during my spare time. I'm Andi. I'm 21 years old and live in Ca. I'm going to school to be a civil engineer. My friend just got me hooked on this site. I was looking at what kind of groups were out there and thought this one would be fun. I love to read when I have time, though math takes up most of it.

message 147: by Annie (new)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments Well... since it seems like all the cool kids are doing it.. haha
Im Annie. Im 20 (21 in April!). Im a junior at Castleton State College in Vermont. Im originally from Highgate VT but have just recently moved to Rutland, VT about 10 minutes away from my school. So I have my very own little apartment now!
I am a communication major with a double concentration in journalism and P.R. and I am a women's studies minor.
I love sports- all sports. Im a HUGE Yankees fan and I love the Indy Colts. Hate N.E. teams even though I grew up here lol
I love to read (obviously). People pick on me because I always have a book with me no matter where I go.
I have an AWESOME boyfriend and we have an awesome fish.. Daryl, he's our baby lol.
I work part time at KMart and it is the worst news of my life. And, as I was informed by my manager today, I AM the blue light special haha

..Pretty sure that's about it for my life lol

message 148: by Key (new)

Key Hey everyone, I thought I'd finally introduce myself- I'm Key. I'm a junior philosophy major at Colgate University in the middle of nowhere, New York. Recently I've been trying to figure out what to do with my life so I've been trying to read as much as possible in my free time, hoping to stumble upon some kind of inspiration. Most of my friends could care less about the books I'm reading, so it's kind of a relief to be part of a group where books are exactly what brings people here.

Other than reading, I'm really passionate about music and do a little bit of singer/songwriting. In a few days I'm going abroad to Scotland for the semester and hope to do a lot of traveling, or at least as much as my dwindling bank account will allow me.

message 150: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Hi, I'm Caitlin. I'm 20 and in my 3rd year of college (at a community college, so I'm not a junior, I just took a year to figure out what I wanted to do). I'm going to get my Associates in Science in Psychology... I hope, at the end of this semester. I love music and reading (obviously). I suck at introducing myself.
