I think at least half of what I said happens... no idea about the rest... I've had the same feelings about stagnation... feels like the what's going to happen, tho... that's kind of how I felt Battle of Corrin ended... if there was no Schools trilogy, the end of Legends basically left the Dune universe pretty close to matching the start of Dune... leaves me feeling like all other trilogies can introduce problems, but they'll all be sollved by the end, to return to a zero sum state that's in-line with the start of the Dune books by Frank Herbert... plotting that way also allows Brian & Kevin to stop at any time (at the end of trilogies), and not leave fans confused about how the world gets from where they left it to how Frank started it...

If any new crazy stuff were to come to light in new books in the 10,000 year gap between Navigators and Dune, I feel like it would have to be so egregious that the Corrino family scrubbed it from history, so there's no record and nobody remembers accurately...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Good points. Having the closed system with the ceiling of the original Dune series, you are right , they don't really have any other choice...

Nirkatze | 20994 comments I think though--part of the reason that the Jihad goes forward in the main Dune books, is exactly that--the Empire has been stagnant for thousands of years...

Yea... I think Leto II creates a stagnant utopia... as opposed to stagnant political situation perpetuated through petty squabbles between the Houses at the start of the series, and presumably in the 10k year gap...

Leto II's point being (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments Even before Leto II, the sense I got was that the Corrino Empire had stagnated similar to Rome... leading to the political unrest...
