KeenReader | 22 comments I count books I've read as steps up the mountain and books I acquire as steps down. So I have to read six books more than I buy to get to the top of Mt. Wychproof.

19th Mar 2025
Steps up = 9 (books read and/or given away)
Steps down = 3 (books bought/acquired this year)

Current position: Planting my flag on the top!

Books read:
5th Jan 2025: Haunters at the Hearth: Eerie Tales For Christmas Nights - 4 stars. A collection of ghost stores written between 1864 and 1974.

14th Jan 2025: The Tooth Fairy - 5 stars. A dark (ish) fantasy about a young boy who can see the tooth fairy, which is not as benign as you would expect. Sometimes described as horror, but I think that's overstating it.

Read one book since my last update (14th Jan) and bought one. So one step up and one step down.

Book read/given away:
Fear in the Cotswolds - I donated this to a charity bookshelf in a local shop. It was a duplicate copy, but it is no longer taking up space in my house, so I count as a step up my mountain.

Book acquired:
The Haunted Hotel: A Mystery of Modern Venice

I got 2 books today:

NEW-UNDERSTANDING HOW WE LEARN : A VISUAL GUIDE, 1ST EDITION

The Towers of Trebizond

It's unfortunate that this has put me back at the bottom of the mountain, but I need the first book because I'm learning German and it's not going so well. I need to learn some more effective learning strategies. The second book has been on my TRB list for years, but I couldn't get my hands on a copy. When I saw this one, I decided to grab it while I could, even though it'd put me back at square one for my climb.

I finished a book last night:
Death and Croissants - 3 stars. A comedy cosy crime set in France.

I've finished A Party in San Niccolo - 4 stars. An unusual crime book. It's mostly about the effects of the crime and investigation on the people who knew the victim. The crime is solved by the end.
