Just about to start!
I have a meeting from 2-230 then I’ll start! I feel like it’ll be a little harder to force myself to talk since I have trouble putting Lily down. I have already read though so no spoilers needed.
Same to all of that. Maybe at the end we can come back and talk about what we liked and didn’t? This is one of my favorites, but it’s also got one of my least favorite tropes.
I’m good with that!! Is your least favorite trope breaking up? I secretly love it because I’m an angst fiend. I understand it’s the laziest of angst, but I love a good grovel so much.
It's not really a trope, I guess, but I hate unequal romances. The scene (it's been awhile) at Henry and Ivo's wedding, when Felix overhears Max saying that Ivo is the love of his life is the worst. And Max just NOT GETTING IT for so long...So even though I know it's a happy ending, and even though I know Max really does love Felix way before he realizes it... the first part of the book is just SO HARD.
And yet, this is absolutely one of my favorites--I love Lily so much it's hard to say (Dean, my beloved)--even though it's her most painful for me (along with Cuckoo's Call, where I almost thought they weren't going to make it, except genre romance).
I have no idea what Lily book is my favorite, I love them all so much. I got a late start so I’m only on chapter 3 but it’s so painful on a reread watching Felix try to keep walls up while Max leads him on and bulldozes them down.
I love how slutty they both are but I hate how blind Max is.
And I love how funny Felix is. He’s just wicked clever. He reminds me of Blue Billings.
Oh, Max has just picked up Felix at work and everyone is pitying him and it’s awful.
It’s a pretty epic grovel.
Is there some wonky time thing in this? Was Venice always the last of the 2 months? I don’t think so. And it doesn’t make a ton of sense for Max to decide to make them wait.Though I do love the whole orient express/venice section.
I stayed up late last night finishing, I forgot how much this one sucks you in. I agree with everything you’ve said! The pitying hurts me so much I like wanted to cry while it was happening. I also really enjoy how unapologetically slutty they are in the beginning. There’s no shame from them or anyone else about it until it becomes for the wrong reasons.
For some reason I remembered the final Ivo scene being worse than it was, but I like how Felix comes to peace with it on his own rather than having to have insecurities squashed (also the panic Max feels at them alone together)
I also stayed up to finish--I felt so sick in the first half of this book. And I couldn't even remember what happened with Ivo, honestly. I knew they saw them in Venice, but I didn't remember what happened. I was glad they Felix had that scene with the guy who'd had a foursome and realized who possessive Max was, and that we got to see Max's realization of his true feelings with Zeb.I kind of want to read Zeb and Dylan's book (and then I'll have to read Jude and Asa, and then Sunny Side for the 3rd time...) to see Patrick again. I love Oz and Silas, too, but the others from that arc aren't my favorites. Milo is kind of a wimp, imo and I just don't care about Gideon and his nurse.
Do you remember which book has the MCs at a masquerade ball, maybe in Venice, and they have super hot semi-public sex? Is that Sunny Side? They have a lot of semi-public sex in that one. Or maybe it's Cuckoo's Call? Because I feel like it's got a kind of Cinderella feel to it.
I actually love Milo, but I forget Gideon exists, I'm just not a huge fan. But I also immediately want to reread a bunch of Lily lol
I don't remember that scene but I realized I have not The Cuckoo's Call! I think I thought it was a short that I had already read? So now I need to
Ooh, if you want to wait until next month (and we've already got a few lined up), I will totally reread it with you. It wasn't my favorite--pretty angsty, iirc--but I would give it another chance. I also need to reread Beautifully Unexpected.
It was great to read this with another super fan.
