Kristie | 19371 comments I finished The Time Keeper a few days ago and started The Phoenix Crown. Next up is Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments I needed something to read in my iPad for when insomnia visits me, so I downloaded Shutter Island. So far very good.

message 54: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really enjoyed Shutter Island, I hope you do too, Sandra!

message 55: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I finished Haunting Charlie yesterday. This morning I got an email notice from the library that my hold for Shadow Spell is ready to download on Libby. Perfect timing. I'll start it tonight. I'm going to slot it in for the Love theme in my list challenge.

message 56: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I'm still reading The Phoenix Crown for the monthly challenge, but I'm almost done and I'm starting Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice today.

message 57: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called Buried Too Deep by Karen Rose

message 58: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished The Phoenix Crown today. It's a little different than what I've read by Kate Quinn so far. I think just a little less gritty somehow. It was still really good though.

Still reading Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice now.

message 61: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Feb 14, 2025 05:27PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I finished The Children's Blizzard. It was an incredibly sad story based on the true events of 1888 when a blizzard swept through Nebraska killing many people, a lot of them children.

I'll start Once There Were Wolves tomorrow.

message 62: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I started Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave today and got through a lot more than I expected to. I'm really enjoying this one. I think it might be the best one in the series so far.

message 63: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4618 comments I started The Women yesterday and could not put it down - so glad Henry's away skiing this weekend so I can finish it without interruptions.

message 64: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called Second Chance Season by Emily March

message 65: by Leonora (new)

Leonora I started reading Tove Ditlevsen’s “Barndommens gade” I think it is called childhoods street or alley in English, but anyway it is really good even though I am only like fifty pages through I really know I am going to enjoy it XD

message 66: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave and thought it was really good. I think it was my favorite of the series. I'll come back with a review later.

I also finished The Wedding People. I loved it even though I had a couple of minor issues with it. I couldn't put it down.

Today I am planning to read The Sign of Four. I have it on Audible and it is marked as finished, but Goodreads still has it marked as "want to read," so I need to listen to it and see if I remember anything. It is short, so I'm hoping I can listen to the whole thing before the toppler starts.

message 67: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments I finished Shutter Island, which was excellent.

I downloaded White Noise and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in my kindle and will start one of them tomorrow.

I also plan to resume Lolita. The writing is impressive, but I needed a break. (view spoiler)

message 68: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I found Lolita very disturbing as well.

I'll be finishing The Women this afternoon, and I'm hoping I'll also be finishing The Killing Plains so that I don't have to hold it over for a week.

I'll be starting my toppler reads tomorrow with A Fall of Marigolds on audiobook and The Devil's Novice (ebook).

message 69: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I will finish The Sign of Four today. I don't have that long left, so I may watch a movie or something tonight instead of starting something new. Or I may listen to The Girl in the Plane. Maybe both.

Tomorrow I will start Ward D and Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love for the toppler.

message 72: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I'm currently reading Ward D, which I'm not loving as much as I hoped to. The narrator is very clearly unreliable. It's still good, but I have some ideas as to what may be going on. We'll see.

I'm also reading Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love. I just started, but it seems like it will be a cute, sweet read.

message 73: by Christine (last edited Mar 02, 2025 03:29PM) (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher

message 74: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I've just finished Death on the Nile and started Play Dead.

message 75: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I'm starting The Dark Wind today, and still working labourishly on The Devil's Novice, It's only 290 pages long, but for some reason, it's slow going.

message 76: by ♞ Pat (last edited Feb 28, 2025 06:53PM) (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 629 comments I started Greenteeth yesterday. I'm at work today, and the library has been busy, so I'm kind of looking forward to going home so I can maybe get it finished this evening.

It's a pretty interesting read.

ETA ~ I put it aside in favor of The Maidens by Alex Michaelides . I'll pick it back up next week, I think. I need a "monster" book for a challenge prompt, and it will work for that.

♞ Pat Gent | 629 comments Christine wrote: "I’m reading a book called How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix"

That one is on my short list.

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls was a little bit of a disappointment - not as "quirky" as his other titles. I loved The Final Girl Support Group and The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires

message 78: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished Play Dead and started The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. I've only read one other book by Lisa See before and I thought it was ok. I'm hoping I like this one better. I know a few people who love her writing. I put it aside though, so I can finish Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love for the toppler.

message 79: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments A while ago my Spotify Premium account started offering audiobooks at no extra cost. There are a lot of recent and popular books in there, which is pretty awesome.

I just started listening to The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi which I think will work for the Pirate task in the yearly challenge. The narration of the book is absolutely magnificient!

message 80: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Adventures. I have it coming up for my alphabet challenge.

I'm currently reading Opium and Absinthe for the group themed read and The Thief's Daughter for the alphabet challenge.

message 81: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I've just added it to my list of possible pirate books. I'll be interested to see what you think of the story once you are finished.

message 82: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I finised The Thief's Daughter and Opium and Absinthe.

Tonight I will start Blood Magick. I was so surprised that my library hold came through so quickly.

Tomorrow I will start The Lewis Man.

message 83: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. I thought it was good, but I don't love See's writing. I feel like she does a great amount of research, but then feels the need to include every single thing she learns in the story. It ends up bogging the story down in places and causing issues with the flow and pacing. I enjoy the stories overall and like learning new things, but there are just too many slow spots for my taste.

I am now reading Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and I'm going to start Once There Were Wolves tomorrow.

message 84: by Charissa (new)

Charissa Wilkinson (lilmizflashythang) | 15 comments "The Fate of the Day" by Rick Atkinson is a pretty hard read. I figured that this history book was going to be difficult, but this is crazy.

message 85: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called The Maid's Diary by Loreth Anne White

message 89: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called The Body Brokers by Brian Cuban

message 90: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I haven't been posting a lot of updates, but I've been reading a lot. Since my last update I finished Once There Were Wolves, which I didn't love nearly as much as I expected to, and read A Piece of the World for my face-to-face book club.

I am currently reading Summer Romance (hope to finish today) and I'm also still reading Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I should probably spend more time on that one.

Next up for me are Legends & Lattes for the yearly challenge and an early copy of Nobody’s Fool. Nobody’s Fool is the second book in a series. I haven't read Fool Me Once yet, but I've been told Nobody’s Fool can be read as a standalone. I will likely just end up reading them in reverse order.

message 91: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I've had a busy week which has slowed my reading down. I'm currently reading Nolyn and discussing it with Margo in a buddy read. I'm also reading A Meditation on Murder if you can call it reading. I've been so tired that I'm not reading that much when I crawl into bed.

Saar The Book owl | 2666 comments Kristie wrote: "I haven't been posting a lot of updates, but I've been reading a lot. Since my last update I finished Once There Were Wolves, which I didn't love nearly as much as I expected to, an..."

@Kristie: have you read Migrations? It's from the same author of Once There Were Wolves. It was a book that grabbed by the throat.

I'm going to read Legends & Lattes next month. I'm curious about your review.

message 94: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called The Ambulance Chaser by Brian Cuban

message 95: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called The Girl Death Left Behind by Lurlene McDaniel

message 96: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60176 comments I finished A Meditation on Murder last night - finally! It felt like it took forever to read.

I'm currently listening to Isola. I have about 5 hours left.

I will start The Quarry Girls tonight.

message 97: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished Summer Romance and Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I really enjoyed both of those.

I'm currently reading Legends & Lattes, which is better than I expected. It's a lighter, fun read. I'm getting through it quickly. I'm enjoying not needing to think too hard with this one.

I'm also reading Nobody’s Fool, which is really good. The MC is basically talking to you the whole time and breaks the fourth wall all the time, so it was weird to get used to. I can't wait until all of the pieces come together.

message 98: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments Saar, I have not read Migrations. Once There Were Wolves was my first book by that author and I didn't love it. I seem to be in the minority on that one. I will keep it mind though for when I give her another try.

So far, I would recommend Legends & Lattes. It's a fun reading experience.
