Jan (Kavanagh's wifey) (jann_) | 232 comments So, I'm shit at acting and one of our teacher randomly selected me to play one of the main characters. I'm supposed to play as a small girl and it's not an issue... The main issue is my skills.
I'm really bad at giving fake expressions and the way I speak can be a bit emotionless too. I really wanna play the role bit I just feel unsure, I'm doubting myself rn cuz this is my first time acting and I can't help but always think abt what others would say, I care too much abt ppl's opinion when I shouldn't. But I think I can try to fake confidence and be okay.
So, in conclusion, I need some tips on how to act.

Sofi🪿 | 69 comments Ok so yea honestly acting is more about confidence than skill especially in school theater. So if you go out there with 100% confidence even if it’s fake and 0% skill then it’s going to turn out fine but if you go out with 0% confidence and 100% skill no one is going to that interested in your part which is fine ig but Yk. So yea just go out there and whatever you do like just own it, if you trip make it look on purpose if you stutter make it part of your character just literally go for it. And once you have confidence you could learn to make some choices based on your character. Also a thing directors love is when you react to the story even if you’re not saying something. So like an example would be if a character announces some one died then react either sad, mad or even happy but make sure there is a reason. Lmk if that makes sense

Sofi🪿 | 69 comments lol ok so it’s basically you write out the first letter of each word your trying to memorize so if the line is “Hey, where do you think your going?” They you write out H, w d y t y g? So then you try Ann’s read the line from just the letters until you get it three times in a row and then you just say it. But it has to be by hand if not it doesn’t work. I swear on this literally I was just jo in the little women and this was my technique.

Julie Bem | 3 comments Hey, I saw you’re asking for tips about acting. So sincerely you should first understand your character, if you start to love it you can actually do it. Make you small notes, read about it, know its backstory, motivations and relationships. Acting is reacting, so stay engaged with your role and the environment rather than focusing on public. Don’t try to make them love you, they will feel if you fake it and your acting will just not be fine. Don’t shy from emotional, from the raw and honest because this is what resonates with the public. Practice your role, voice control, body language in front of a mirror. And on the end the really great acting it’s not about pretending but about embodying truth in imaginary circumstances. Enjoy and btw my name is Julie. Bye ☺️

Try to get where your character is coming from and understand their motivations. Try to put yourself into the character and really make them your own. Also, just have fun. Because even if maybe your not perfect, the audience will recognize that you're having fun on stage and trust me, that's contagious. :D
