2025 Series Read: K.N. Banet's "Jacky Leon"
Yes, the series read really pushed me to read it, though Snartastic Sonja pushed me in one of my recommend challenges too. A really good recommendation for certain.@Melissa- I also commented that it had a Mercy / Kate vibe. The kid that needs saving, having a family that is hidden though it comes out pretty quickly, going into the lair of the wolves, running a bar (kind of like having a shop). I think there is a big originality in the creature that she is a being a bigger badass than all the rest with only not being a pack animal (being a loner) making her at all weaker.

I definitely have been holding off on reading ahead. So far I have so many books that I'm scheduled to read that I can talk myself into the wait but at some point I see me reading ahead and coming back to comment at the correct time. I might reread as it is that good.

So I'm still quick to start and finish. Finished #3 yesterday and loved it... again. This has stayed as good for each. I think the 2nd was my favorite so far.

I am really enjoying this series it was a great choice. Just finished book three and cant wait for the next instalment.

OK, I was able to hold off for book 4 until this month which I just finished. This one was again a favorite. I think book 2 was my favorite so far and book 3 my least liked but really I've loved them all. This one, Echoed Defiance, loved better than the last. (view spoiler) So I was again thinking when I got to the end of this that I wanted more. Still I will try to hold off as I think there are 4 books still that need to come out which one comes out in July. How frequently does she publish? Really these don't end on cliffhangers so... probably wouldn't be a problem
I put off book 3, then got sucked into In Death-land 😆 I need to get back on track and return to Jacky & Heath!
Had to look to make sure you meant In Death. Are you on a reread?This is a great series. I have no problem going back to it and definitely want to read on at the end of each book. My main thing that holds me back is that I've been using my Audible credits and getting them all at once would eat through all my saved credits. I'm tempted, though really they are only $7.50 for buying with KU. I bought the 10th as is is only $3.19 with KU borrow. I started reading Echoed
Nope, first go-round for me; I’m way late to the series. I just finished my re-read of Jacky #3 and look forward to #4 this month.
Missed your question re: publishing - she used to rls 1-2 a year now yearly, if I’m remembering correctly. Never too long of a wait, thankfully.
I came late to In Death also but was in a series read. It took years at one per month. I had to catch up initially as I let it get to 11 and I was at 6 but I did and then I would read 2 and then put it down. Never quite got the hang of the 1 per month after I did the catch up.I went and read an In Death after coming here and looking where you were. I'm on 23. I read the in between, Haunted in Death and started the next.

I'm on a reread of in Death (2 years) and just finished Salvation in Death #27.So I need to get back to this series. I bought Jacky Leon #8 right after finishing the 7th but held off for over two months. Still am loving it but I am now see the pattern. Will love to see where it goes in the end. Is the 12th supposed to be the last?

So in one of the comments You said there was an author's note "Author's series note: There’s only 4 books left after this one and everything through the last few have been very important to what comes next. Book #12 @ July 2025"
And I was wondering if that was from the book 10 meaning 14 books or which? So at the time the 12th book was coming in July but seems like that didn't happen and am a bit worried that this will be another series that suffers from an author delay for life. It seems that the books so far have ended pretty well in each though there are a lot of over arc wonderings (how realations will work out, etc...) but hoping it doesn't just stop.
I did end up reading ahead through book 7 in late April-May. And then waited until August to start book 8. I have just started and am enjoying once again. This has become a favorite.
I’d forgotten about that and it would’ve been something mentioned by the author at the end of the book. Which, happily, should mean there are 4 planned after book 11 😁

And, Everly Abbott (related series) only has 3 books on Amazon with nothing available for preorder for Sept/Oct. so, how is book 5 coming out in a month?
Yeah, appears she’s behind schedule. I’ve been keeping an eye out for Jacky 12 and had hopes dashed. Hopefully she’ll have an update soon.
I can understand not putting out two books a year, that can be a grueling schedule, but it’s hard on the fans when you don’t keep your website up to date…
I get especially peeved when authors don't update their own website!!!!!Being a GR librarian I often go to author's websites, and you'd be surprised how many have been abandoned or just way out of date.
Yeah, I LOVE Magical Romantic Comedies by RJ Blain, but her website is ridiculous. I’ve pretty much given up keeping an eye out for anything of hers at this point.
I get her newsletters, and if anything, I'd say she overshares. I don't need to know about how much an audiobook costs to make and how she decides which book to write depending on its cost/benefit ratio.
Don't get me wrong, I love 99.9% of what she writes, I love the OTTness of her characters, but do I need all the author troubles, NOPE.
So I am up to date and finished

I have the next loaded and ready to go but catching up on a couple of other series.Bitter Discord was very very good 4 1/2 and I haven't decided whether to go up or down. Really the part that I didn't like was that it felt like so many characters were thrown at us at once and I need to go back to reread already to keep any sense of who was who in so many parts. Might have to reread before next month though I have a feeling that most of the characters, like all the werecats, will not show up soon. It also felt like it didn't further so much that I wanted furthered. (view spoiler) So maybe it is that part of it seemed transitional but still it was very good and her relationship with sister Zuri definitely grows.
It's a fun one to binge, if that's your thing. How'd you like the first two? It's one that improves with each installment, IMO.

This annoys me too, especially if there’s a spin off that crosses into the main time line, and they don’t tell you where it goes in the time line

I have #9 to start next week for September. I actually started it right after bitter discord but stopped at a good point maybe 20% in. I did want to see (view spoiler)So I am definitely ready to continue to see what happens there and of course the on going politics and Heath and Jackie's relationship, along with the daughter who is growing up.

I'll add obviously missing books novels and novellas or edit the blurb or page numbers sometimes etc... used to do a lot more.
I just finished book 10, so a little ahead. I wrote a review and then realized that I wrote the wrong brother throughout. I am hopelessly confused with the names and who is who on siblings, so I went to the first to get it rehash. I'm on book 3, just finishing up and now think I have the 7 (living) children of Hasan and Subira, down in my head. That I had any hope of remembering past characters, LOL.
So a reread while the buddy read month catches up though it seems I might be the only one that read the 9th this month? I be ready and caught up to 10 for a reread next month, Scarred Resolve. It was so good. So was Secrets and Ruin #9, this months, with Niko and other's secrets coming to the front.
So I read book three and cannot wait to get to book 4, trying to pace myself and not binge the series, I’ll end up getting bored/overwhelmed and then end up dropping the series But I neeeeeddd book 4 😂😂

, loved them both but realized that I was confusing siblings and other characters so decided to reread book 1 and maybe 2 but ended up binge reading 1-7, currently on book 8 and will read 9 & 10 before I decide to read on. I was going to hold off as the release for Cruel Revenge was so far off (but not anymore) but... I think I might have over loaded on Jacky for the moment. On Banet's website she wrote in February that she had got a divorce and was moving to Florida from Arizona. That is a big change, yet she did get the book out. Still, a bunch of the review and the blurb make it seem like War Games is a transition or the beginning of the next overarc. I might wait so I can binge as I've really liked the reread.So Scarred Resolve was a great place to end my read though the up coming war is looking close. (view spoiler) Love it.

I’m excited there isn’t a long wait, but I still think it’s so weird to get an email YESTERDAY that it was available for preorder a week before it gets released. I have preorders out there that don’t come out until 2026! A week is just weird.
With all that she was going through, I think it was up in the air. I am so glad that she got it finished up. Maybe a great preview of books to come. Fingers crossed.

It's taking a LOT of restraint to keep from jumping in and not coming out until I've finished them all. I've had a temp fix after #11, so I think I'll put off #2 closer to the end of the month and read #3 right after 😏
