Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments Ugh, I just looked at my book club books for February. I seriously can't do non-fiction again this soon. She is killing me. That is my least favorite genre. She already got me with the country girls (and I only read part of that book due to a technicality - Country Girl). I have some that actually fit the tasks this time around, though.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Hey Lexi - I don't know whether it matters or not, but The Wedding People probably works for "Takes place at a university" as well as the "MC teaches" task, if you want me to switch.

message 53: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Thank you, I haven't figured out my book for that one yet but I'll keep that in mind

message 54: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments What are the team's thoughts on using Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries for MC teaches? No teaching occurs in the book, but the MC is a professor. Then, I can switch places with Teddie's book for university. Otherwise, I can go find one easily but wanted to ask.

message 55: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments I'm ok with it, but I'll default to the majority decision.

Also, I've finished my books for this set. :)

message 56: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments I think it works -- I took "MC teaches" as a profession, not an action.

message 57: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Great, I added it

message 58: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments How's reading Donna?

message 59: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments I don’t have time to read. I have spent every waking moment either at the hospital for the last week and a half or running around preparing for Al to come home, or taking my son to work. He came home yesterday and now I am figuring out nurses, IVs, etc.

message 60: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Donna, take care of yourself first. No rush here. Do whatever you need. We can wait or cover your two books, whatever is best for you. Hope Al continues to get better and you get some rest.

I'm so sorry Donna, I can't imagine. Take care!

message 62: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Take care of yourself Donna!! I hope Al's recovery is smooth.

Just join back in when you're ready :)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments I have a book that was translated, and could read Serpent & Dove from the Saga list, unless someone has a book from that list already?

ETA: I'm also cool with waiting but I figured this way Donna doesn't need to think about it, and can do some extra books down the line if she wants :)

message 64: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Donna can also have my O spot, as I saw she finished an O book if we want to move books around.

message 65: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments That's a good idea Lexi :)

message 66: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments I'm happy to wait or wiggle things - y'all just let me know!

message 67: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Actually, Onyx Storm is on the saga list with 18 people tagging it. Donna finished it on Feb 25.

message 68: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Perfect!

message 69: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Hi Donna,

I noticed your current read had a bracelet on cover so I claimed jewelry for you. The remaining three are:
1. Tree on cover
2. MPG Epic fantasy
3. A burglary is committed

I have not claimed my third if you have a preference for two of those. Thanks

message 70: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments My only preference is the epic fantasy but other than that I can do either of the other two.

message 71: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments I'll claim tree then, as that is easier for me to plan for. I am packing my books for a long flight on Wednesday. Thank you

message 72: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments I am actually finished with that book. I need to mark it read. I finished it earlier today. Just haven’t updated it yet.

message 73: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Teddie! I switched out Cry Wolf from verse/song lyric to the slow burn romance task - I didn't think I was going to be able to get to one of those anytime soon, but I am currently reading Hag-Seed, and there are a ton of Shakespearean verses.

Hope that was ok!

message 74: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Of course! I don't have any proprietary feelings wrt tasks, so anyone can move my books whenever :)

message 75: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Ok, I finished my books, so let me know when we need to start new tasks! :)

message 76: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Teddie, how are you both doing with your last book?

Donna, I think The da Vinci Code opens with a burglary at the Louvre.

message 77: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Teddie, I have a book I read in March published in 1987 (Swordspoint) if your book is not working for you and you want to move to next set of tasks. Otherwise, we are in no rush.

message 78: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Sorry I didn't see your March 22 message Lexi! Go ahead and replace mine with your Swordspoint - and thanks. I'm reading The Vanished Birds now but it hasn't been a great month - lol. I'm sure I'll find a place for it later - let's move on!

thanks :)

message 79: by Lexi (last edited Mar 29, 2025 10:42AM) (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Thank you, we are good for set 4 and the last book for set 3 was read on March 21

Also, I found The Vanished Birds really slow so at least for me in bad reading months, I am more picky on what I read

message 80: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Thanks again. Good to hear re: The Vanished Birds - I figured it was just me

message 81: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments I liked The Spear Cuts Through Water a lot more. The Vanished Birds just never seemed worth the wait by the end.

message 82: by Lexi (last edited Mar 29, 2025 06:01PM) (new)

Lexi | 734 comments I found rabbit and potato randomly in text if someone wants to claim one of my other two tasks (other than WETA) as easier for them.

message 83: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments I have to give the sheet a more thorough look tomorrow!

message 84: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Donna,

There are 5 tasks left if you want to claim yours (Ashley and I still also have one left). Also, no one has to do 3 if they don't want to.
I can do either New Zealand or A book with more than 1 million ratings on GR but am holding off in case someone has a book that works for one easier than the other.

Tasks
A book tagged movie(s) or film or cinema at least 5x
A book with more than 1 million ratings on GR
book tagged 'New Zealand' at least 5x
A book published between 2001-2003 or 2012-2014
A biography/memoir of a famous person in the movie industry

message 85: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments I saw. I had planned to sit down today to do some book planning.

message 86: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments Awesome, thank you, I added myself to New Zealand then.

message 87: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Ok, I wasn't paying attention (as usual), and I see that the last available task is: "A biography/memoir of a famous person in the movie industry" and I just don't think I can stomach another one after last month. Anyone want to trade, lol?

message 88: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Feel free to take either of mine - I've been wanting to listen to the Peter Jackson one, or I can find something else. I have book with a major award and mpg music.

message 89: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Teddie wrote: "Feel free to take either of mine - I've been wanting to listen to the Peter Jackson one, or I can find something else. I have book with a major award and mpg music."

I'm currently reading this book: Rage Becomes Her: The Power of Women's Anger which I thought might work for won a major award, but here is what the google search says:
While "Rage Becomes Her" was named a Best Book of 2018 by The Washington Post, Fast Company, and Psychology Today, it doesn't appear to have won any specific awards. The author, Soraya Chemaly, has won numerous awards herself, including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication's (AEJMC) Award for Feminist Advocacy and the Secular Woman Activism Award.

What do we think? Not enough?

message 90: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments I don’t think that book would work. Sorry.

message 91: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Lexi wrote: "I don’t think that book would work. Sorry."

Me either... just wishful thinking

message 92: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Hey Ashley - I have Greenlights and A Thousand Threads: A Memoir on hold. Looks like A Thousand Threads will come in first, so I'll read that for the memoir. If you want, you can take an extra task later - or not :)

message 93: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments sounds great! sorry to be a drag this time around

message 94: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments You're not ever a drag! And I'm going to time it just right for some Quest bonus points :)

message 95: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments I'm still waiting on my New Zealand book from the library. I have been first in line for almost a month, which seems impossible on a two week ebook check out period.

message 96: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Hello Team! I know we've all been out of sorts this month, but I'm just doing a little end of the month check in on our challenge. Maybe in May we can get it back together! hah!

Set 4 Books unread
5. A biography/memoir of a famous person in the movie industry (no claim)
7. book tagged 'New Zealand' at least 5x (Lexi)
11. A book tagged movie(s) or film or cinema at least 5x (Donna)

Does anyone want to make any changes there?

message 97: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments I've got #5 - my Neneh Cherry book just came in. I'll update the sheet. Thanks!

message 98: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments My book is a physical book and I currently have no electricity. They are telling 500,000 people that some of us may not get electricity back for 5-7 days. This is going to severely limit my reading of physical books. Not to mention that the way I can charge my phone and iPad is in the car. So I am going to have to alternate between ebooks and physical books. It’s going to be a long week. I hope they get it up faster than expected but with another storm coming in tomorrow… we will see.

message 99: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments 5 - 7 days?? Wow - I feel for you Donna. Too bad you're not living in Spain and can't just join a street party that spontaneously takes place during blackouts: https://www.reddit.com/r/allinspanish...

:)

But seriously, take care.

message 100: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 734 comments I'm sorry, Donna. You just can't get a break.

I'll start my book this weekend so I should be done by Monday.
