The epic conclusion to the intensely romantic and beautifully written story that started in Divine Rivals.

Two weeks have passed since Iris Winnow returned home bruised and heartbroken from the front, but the war is far from over. Roman is missing, and the city of Oath continues to dwell in a state of disbelief and ignorance. When Iris and Attie are given another chance to report on Dacre’s movements, they both take the opportunity and head westward once more despite the danger, knowing it’s only a matter of time before the conflict reaches a city that’s unprepared and fracturing beneath the chancellor’s reign.

Since waking below in Dacre’s realm, Roman cannot remember his past. But given the reassurance that his memories will return in time, Roman begins to write articles for Dacre, uncertain of his place in the greater scheme of the war. When a strange letter arrives by wardrobe door, Roman is first suspicious, then intrigued. As he strikes up a correspondence with his mysterious pen pal, Roman will soon have to make a decision: to stand with Dacre or betray the god who healed him. And as the days grow darker, inevitably drawing Roman and Iris closer together…the two of them will risk their very hearts and futures to change the tides of the war.

Just FYI, I read book 1 about a year ago so I decided to read it again now prior to reading this one. I have such a bad memory and I loved the book, plus we have a FEW days left in January that we (I) don't have a buddy read so I'll get to this one definitely in a day or so.

I'm so sad Roman doesn't remember who he is or what he's been through (or Iris 😭😭). I love that he's back to typing though and slowly remembering some memories

ooh, the gods! I'd completely forgot about them but oh how I love their addition this war story
the one with Roman feels very. . .iffy lol! but I remember their goddess in the town with Iris not quite being who she said she was either

but of this sleeping one, I remember little. I think it's bad if she wakes. . .

ugh, to be able to say it out loud!! They are so sweet, I loved their night together and glad they had it

hate that the god wants Iris to join him. ugh. it makes me think he knows something

and wow, they are all having the dreams. is he actually planning to go kill his sister or is she already awake? is she the one that is gathering or killing the other gods? hmmm. what is going on? and what is this gods plan?

Through Ch. 11 (Part One)

(view spoiler)[I'm glad I re-read book 1 because I didn't remember anything! I was SO ready to read this one right now! lol

Roman...the way book 1 ended was a heartbreaker! Forest got his sister, Iris to safety, but poor Roman got left behind and he's with Dacre. Obviously, Dacre doesn't want Roman to remember anything and now Roman is writing for Dacre. I do think that'll change. When he picked his typewriter and it turned out not to be his, I wondered if maybe it had been Iris's. I want them back together!! But like you said, he is slowly remembering bits and pieces.

Iris is pretty smart so I think she'll figure out a way to get through to him. I love the typewriter and how they developed love via writing. It reminded me of how I met my husband on AOL instant messaging and after a while met in person and you know the rest...we got married! lol

Oh, yeah, and I can't stand Roman's father!!! (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch 24 (Part Two)

(view spoiler)[YAY!!! He remembers everything!!! I was so scared that when she saw Roman but didn't know who was there that she'd injure him. Thank goodness she caught herself.

I was a little worried that Tobias might've been a traitor, so I'm glad that so far he's a good guy.

Now Dacre knows someone betrayed him. I hope he doesn't lash out on anyone, but I especially hope that he doesn't find out about the letter to Iris. I thought Iris was foolish to show the letter to several people, but it appears that it's working out so far. (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch 39 (Part Three)

OMG! (view spoiler)[My heart! My heart was literally racing in parts. I was so worried that Bruce would catch Iris sneaking in to their property. Then I was worried when Dacre showed up. I was scared when Roman was bribed to take the envelope to that guy but he missed handing it off and then "MY WIFE IS IN THERE!" OMG, there were so many times I was sure they were going to get caught. I'm rooting for them so bad. They need and deserve to be together! Now what's going to happen? Ugh... (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Wow! That ending. I feel so bad for Roman that he'll be forever dealing with the sick consequences Dacre gave him. I wasn't sure how that would end but I'm glad they made it together. I'm like you and I wonder if there could be a book 3.
