Julian. That’s not even a question. He was so thoughtful and kind. He cared for Scarlett even though he should have left her. He is a walking green flag. AND HIS ACCENT. I LOVE it when people have accents. It makes them 1000 times hotter.
And !SPOILER! when I found out he was Legend’s brother it made everything much more interesting.

It was definitely Donatella. Now, before you all scream at me, I KNOW that she will be a lot better in the next book, BUT the whole time she appeared I couldn’t stand her. She just did everything to make HER OWN LIFE miserable. I was so inpatient with her and couldn’t understand how Scarlett beared her.

🎁 who was your favorite character? Why?
My favorite character was definitely Ophelia. I loved how kind and nice but also strong and powerful she was. I loved how she grew as the story progressed. She also became a lot more centered, strong, and focused. I also really liked how she did not cower when the other characters were being mean towards her, it only made her become angrier which made her stronger (I loved that).
🎁 who was your least favorite character? Why?
My least favorite character was Cade. He was really mean towards Ophelia and was always trying to make people see her in a bad light. The fact that he also slapped her at one point in the book really pissed me off. I was very happy when Ophelia finally started to stand up for herself against him.
🎁 if you could choose any winter holiday for a novella to be centered around, what would it be? Why?
Christmas would make a really good holiday novella to be based on. I think it would be a really cute and wholesome to see Ophelia, Blackwell, and even Vivi on a Christmas based novella. I also think that their personalities and romance (Ophelia and Blackwell’s) would really shine in a cozy Christmas novella.
🎁 what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
My favorite quote was “The dark is for people who are too cowardly to face their actions in the light.” I loved that this quote was said by Ophelia which made a lot more impact since she has a lot of dark things running through her brain all the time.
🎁 what character would you most like to build a snowman with? Why?
Vivi would probably be a really fun person to build a snowman with. She is a very bright and fun character that seems to be very nice to others. I think that it would make a really nice and fun memory to have with her. I also think at some point the snowman building would turn into a snowball fight.
🎁 what character would you most like to shop for for the holiday season? Why?
I would probably shop for Ophelia for the holiday season. I think it would be easy since she seems to have some of the same style as me and like some of the same things that I also enjoy. I think it would be fairly easy to find something that Ophelia would like.
🎁 what character would you most like to spend a snowy day inside with? Why?
I’d love a snowy day with Poe (yes, the cat). He’d stay by my side as I watch movies or read, he would probably be sleeping the whole time. His quiet presence would be the best company, adding charm to the cozy day. Just me, Poe, a warm drink, and the soft sound of snow outside.
🎁 what would you change about the book? Why?
I think the only thing I would change would probably be the smut part. I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if there was less smut and more tension and yearning between the characters. I think their physical relationship developed a bit too fast for me, but besides that it was a really good book.
🎁 would you gift this book to a friend for the holidays? Why or why not?
I would definitely gift this book to a friend. The moment I started it I was already loving it so I recommended it to all my friends and they all said they would start it. I really liked the plot and the characters, I think my friends will love this book!

I think I would probably vibe to holiday musics with either Ophelia or Vivi because they seem like they would love Christmas songs. I think it would be so fun to put classic Christmas songs and dance and sing to it with them. I also think that the energy, the fun, and their joy would make it an unforgettable memory.

Ophelia showing up at random places or getting confused to what she had to do at the levels would definitely happen to me. The moment I started reading the riddles I knew for a fact that I would NOT survive a single day on Phantasma. I would be confused the whole entire time that the game was happening.

My favorite characters are both Evie and Kingsley. I love them both so so so much. I love how both of them are funny and make every single scene so much better when they are in it. They both make me laugh a lot while reading the book.

(SPOILER) My least favorite character was Renna. Even though I understand that she did what she thought was right so that she would have her family together for a little while longer it still pissed me off. She was really mean for not letting Evie know from the start that her mom was dead and for letting the King know where The Villain was.
🎁 if you could choose any winter holiday for a novella to be centered around, what would it be? Why?
I would love to read a Christmas novella from this series. I think it would be very wholesome, funny, and most definitely cute. I would love to see Evie and Trystan exchanging gifts and I would also love to see the whole mansion decorated for Christmas with everyone exchanging gifts and being in the Christmas spirit.

My favorite quote from the book was “Warning bells rang in Evie’s head. She knew where the story was going, knew it had a tragic end. Because unlike the beauty of fairy tales, real life didn’t end in a neat and tidy bow.” I loved this quote because it shows how while the book kind of seems like a fairy tale there are still really bad things happening in their lives.
🎁 what character would you most like to build a snowman with? Why? I would love to build a snow man with Evie. Evie is a really kind and nice person to be around so I think building a snowman with her would make a really amazing memory for both of us. I also think we would really enjoy each others company and she would make me laugh a lot.

I would definitely have an easier time shopping for Evie since she likes a lot of the same things that I do. I would probably buy some books for her and some book related things. I think she would love those things. I also think it would be really fun to have a little book shopping day with her.

I would love to spend a snowy day inside with Kingsley. He would probably make me laugh a lot and he would love to watch silly little Christmas movies with me. He would be a very fun “person” to spend the day inside with.

I think the only thing I would change is that I would make the romance a little bit quicker but at the same time that’s what I love about this series so I’m not sure I would change that. I love how much they yearn and care for each other. (I know that I’m contradicting myself😭)

I would definitely gift this series to my friends. I think they would love it as much as I love it. I cannot wait to tell them some of the things that happens in the book so that they will want to read it. I think they would think that the book is really funny and cute.

My favorite characters are both Cardan and Jude. I simply love them and their relationship. Their interactions throughout this book was so fun. It was also fun seeing some of the things that happened on the main series unfold through Cardan’s eyes. They are also such a badass couple, it’s a lot of fun to read about them.
🎁 who was your least favorite character? Why?
My least favorite character was obviously Balekin. Since the main books I have always hated him but now that I have seen things unfold through Cardan’s eyes it made me hate him even more. The way that he used Cordan’s naivety and wish to be part of something was absolutely despiteful. I will forever be the no.1 Balekin hater.
🎁 if you could choose any winter holiday for a novella to be centered around, what would it be? Why?
Christmas would probably be a fun setting to base a novella on. I think it would be really fun seeing Jude, Cardan, and Jude’s family exchanging gifts and teaching Cardan more of the mortal ways to celebrate holidays. I think it would also be cute and wholesome to see them in a Christmas novella.

My favorite quote from the book was “A heart of stone can still be broken.” I really loved this quote because it makes so much sense to how Cardan turned out a couple of years later. I love how this quote fallowed him throughout the years and how it made him want to break his own stone heart.

I would love to build a snowman with Cardan. I think it would be so much fun to teach him such a common mortal activity. I also think he would have a lot of fun building the snowman and playing with the snow. I also think he would go back inside the house really quickly because he wouldn’t be able to bear the cold.

I would most likely shop for either Vivi or Jude. I think it would be really fun trying to find things that they would like and I also think it would be fun to go holiday shopping with them. I think it would make a really good memory for all of us.

I would definitely like to spend a snowy day inside with Oak. He is such a cutie. I think it would be fun to play board games with him, probably watch YouTube with him, and bake together. He seems like he would be a very chill child to be around and he would like to do mostly anything.

I don’t think I would change anything about the book. I loved how the things played out, I loved the stories, and most of all I loved all the drawings that it has all throughout the book. I loved having the imagery together with the story, it made it seem more like a fairy tale or a children’s book, which gave a sense of nostalgia.
🎁 would you gift this book to a friend for the holidays? Why or why not?
I would definitely gift this book to a friend, in fact, my friend finished reading the Cruel Prince series about 2 or 3 weeks ago so I think she would absolutely love to be gifted this book. I think she would also appreciate how short, sweet, and interactive the book is (with all the images and drawings).

I think Jude or Vivi. I think they would love to just turn on some classic Christmas musics and sing them for a really long time. I also think Cardan would enjoy seeing the scene play out and would probably think the songs and the lack of tune would be really funny.
🎁 what moment in the book would most likely happen to you? why?
The part where Cardan falls for the troll’s trap would definitely happen to me. I think the first thing I would think to do would be the same thing that Cardan thought, to go after the troll and talk to her, and I would get stuck in the same situation. The only thing that I’m not sure of is that I would be able to think as quickly as he did for a way to get out of the mess he created.

Probably New Year’s since we already have a Christmas prologue. I would love to see them together for the New Year’s and seeing the clock turn and a new year to begin. I think it would be really wholesome and cute. I also think it would be really fun to see them in that setting.

I don’t think there’s a lot that I would change about the book. I love how short, quick, and fun the book is. The only thing is that I didn’t feel as connected with the characters as I felt with the other ones in the series, so that’s probably the only thing that I would have to com[plain about. Don’t get me wrong though, I still loved the story!

I would definitely gift this book to my friends. I think they would love a quick, fast paced, and cute novella to finish the year off. I think they would really appreciate the romance and the topics covered in this book. Also, my friends usually complain that I recommend really long books and series for them to read, so I think they would really appreciate a quick book and short series for once.

I would probably vibe to holiday songs with both Savannah and Jordan. They seem like they would both enjoy to just put on classic holiday musics and sing to their hearts content. My favorite character was Percy. I just love him so much and have attachment issues to him. He was his usual funny self, which I love. I also loved how the only thing that Rick made Percy remember was Annabeth. I just really love them so much, like it’s actually insane.

My least favorite character was Octavian. He was being so rude annoying every time he had any type of interaction with Percy, Hazel, and Frank. I also hated the way he acted at the end of the book. He honestly just pissed me off every single time he showed up.

If I had to choose a holiday song it would probably be All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, because I think this song encapsulates exactly how Frank feels for Hazel. He is just a poor boy in love and I love it. I think this song would be perfect for him and he would honestly just listen to it because he agrees.
🎁 if you could choose any winter holiday for a novella to be centered around, what would it be? Why?
I would absolutely love to see a Christmas novella for all the Heroes of Olympus Characters. I just think it would be so sweet and cute to see them exchanging gifts and their seeing all the different couples in a romance in a Christmas novella. I would simply love a little domestic Christmas with all the characters.

My favorite quote from the book was "Welcome to Alaska. We're Beyond the held of the gods." I love how it was so dramatic but it also encapsulates the situation very well. I love how Alaska was basically a no help zone where none of the gods could get to them or offer any aid.

I would love to build a snowman with Frank because he was so sweet and kind. I think he would be a very fun person to hang out with and I think we would enjoy our time together a lot. I also think it would be really nice t make memories with him.

I would probably shop for either Hazel or Ella (the harpy) because I think it would be really fun to shop for them. Also, I would probably get Ella some of my favorite books since she loves to read. I think it would also be really fun to go holiday shopping with them.

I would honestly love to spend a snowy day inside with any of the main characters in this book. I loved all three of them and I think it would be very fun to spend a day inside with any of them. They seem like they would all be pretty nice and fun people to hang out with.

I think the only thing I would change is give the book a more fast paced start. I thought that the first one in the series was a lot more fast paced than this one (even though it took me less time to read this one). I think it would have made the book a lot quicker and a little more fun.

I would definitely gift this book and even the entire series to my friends that have finished Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I think they would all enjoy this series and would have fun reading them. I think they would also really appreciate being gifted the series since the Rick universe has so many books on it😭

I think I would vibe to holiday music with Percy. I can definitely see him putting classic holiday songs and singing them from the top of his lungs. It would be very funny to see him singing and dancing to the songs. I think it would be really fun and it would make a really good memory.

I think the moment that would happened to me would be when Percy falls and the earth starts to swallow him. I can definitely see myself tripping and falling in the same place and having to have my friends help me get out. Even though this was a pretty funny scene it also had so pretty high stakes to it.

This was already a novella, but I would love to see another novella centered around New Year's. I think it would be so cute and lovely. I also think it would be so fun to see them in this setting. I would also really appreciate if it had more Scarlet and Julian content instead of Tella and Legend.

My favorite quote was Julian saying “you look devastating crimson” to Scarlet. Oh my God how I love these two characters. I literally ate the crumbs of ScarJulian that Stephanie Garber gave us. They are simply so cute and I love how much they love and care for each other.

I’d love to build a snowman with Scarlet, Julian, or Tella. It would be so fun and unforgettable, creating one of the best memories ever. I’m sure we’d share an amazing time together, laughing and enjoying every moment as we worked on it. I would absolutely love this moment with them.

This is actually a plea for Stephanie Garber. Please, I beg you, make more ScarJulian content. I really thought we would get a lot of ScarJulian and then I got really disappointed to find out it was one more book revolving Tella and Legend. Hoping that the next novella will have more of my babies😔.
🎁 would you gift this book to a friend for the holidays? Why or why not?
I would gift this book to my friends, specially the barnes and noble edition because of the epilogue. The epilogue gives us a little but of info on Jacks and a tale from the Magnificent North which they say that they will visit on the next Christmas, so hopefully EvaJacks content on the next novella. I think my friends would freak out with this information (I told them the moment I finished the book).

I think I would vibe to holiday musics with Julian. I can picture him singing from the top of his lungs and dancing around to the classic holiday songs. I think it would be a lot of fun and we would really enjoy the moment. I also think that Scarlet would later join us and that would make an amazing memory.

The moment that would probably happen to me is the part where Tella accepted the candy from the boy and ended up getting involved in a mess when she woke up. While I probably would be more cautious when getting candy from strangers I could definitely see this happening to me.

🎁who was your favorite character? Why? My favorite character was Freya. She got the perfect fmc mix!!!! Of course there’s anxiety in play, but she loved science and had realistic views of the world. She was real in all the ways a book character could be. She even found a way to fit the one thing she loved so much into her queenly duties. Y’all, she had a science laboratory in the torture chamber. 😂
🎁 who was your least favorite character?
Why? My least favorite person was Fitzroy’s dad, the previous king. He was everything a king should not be. And although I didn’t really get a view of the actual citizens in the town, I’m sure he wasn’t ruling well. All he cared for was power and wealth. He went all out. His 100% gold cake is what got everyone killed in the first place! At the beginning, he even released thousands of birds in the castle just to kill them for show! He was a terrible king and a terrible dad.

build a snowman with? Why? I would build a snowman with Naomi! She’s so nice and thoughtful. I hate that she lost her brother. But the only reason she survived is because she left the birthday ceremony for Freya. Freya was having a meltdown and she left the castle with Freya. She’s so caring throughout the whole book. Making a snowman with her would be like having fun with your best friend.
🎁 what character would you most like to spend a snowy day inside with? Why? I would spend a snowy day inside with Fitzroy. He’s really nice and funny when you get past the rude and sarcastic jokes. I would give all my time to him if he ever asked! We would probably bake… I don’t know I just feel like it would be fun to bake with him.

book? Why? I wouldn’t have made this a standalone. Or i would have added more romance. It was killing me that Freya and Fitzroy were so for each other, but the plot was prioritized more than their romance. Of course, the other did great with the plot, I’m just a sucker for romance!! If the book wasn’t a standalone, I think it’d have the potential to run along with the Defy the Night (Brigid Kemmerer) trilogy!

Ruth was by far my favorite character. Ruth provided a much-needed sense of healing and recovery in her relationship to Jess, especially after the horrors Jess experienced. Ruth's presence was vital in creating a feeling of closure and satisfaction in the novel, and I appreciate how her existence made Jess question her various opinions and her reality.
🎁 who was your least favorite character? Why?
Grant was my least favorite character. I understand that characters like Grant are important for providing and illuminating the various perspectives that can center issues, especially issues as divisive as gender and sexuality politics, but even Grant's dialogue felt very doctored and unnatural.
🎁 what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
“Nature held me close and seemed to find no fault with me," was my favorite quote. I think this quote does such a beautiful job in displaying how even after such immense suffering, such as that of Jess' experiences with the police, nature can still provide solace. Furthermore, nature allows for imperfections and is undemanding of answers, which is thematically very powerful for where Jess was in her journey at that point.
🎁 what character would you most like to spend a snowy day inside with? Why?
Theresa would be the character I would most like to spend a snowy day inside with. Her presence in Jess' life and the comfort she embodied as a character just makes her seem so kind and personable, and her love of gardening and cooking would give us plenty of things to talk about with each other.
🎁 what would you change about the book? Why?
Unfortunately, the writing in this book is not the strongest; however, its societal impact and thematic strength carries the story. I would alter the tendency of the writing to shift away from relying on clichés and telling instead of showing and towards trusting the reader to understand the greater themes without spoon-feeding sweeping statements in each chapter.
🎁 would you gift this book to a friend for the holidays? Why or why not?
I do not think I would gift this book to a friend for the holidays. It is definitely instrumental in queer history and impactful in that way, but it is just so dark and sad, and I think a large amount of emotional preparation would be needed. I also think that this book should be sought out by the reader, rather than it being thrust upon them.
🎁 what moment in the book would most likely happen to you? why?
I think getting tricked into buying a horrible New York apartment would most likely happen to me. There are far too many street skills involved in apartment shopping and I think I would unfortunately be extremely gullible, especially seeing as there were few laws in place during the 1970s-1980s that protected renters.
