Lucien is by no means a people person. However, he always knows what to say, and has made a habit of saying it, first in order to gain his position, and now, to keep it. In politician mode he makes sure to come across as likable, but also a good leader. However, overworked, overstressed, and sleep-deprived, he just might snap... He dislikes people as a general rule, although he loves his sister, and would do anything for her. He also has a secret soft spot for cats. He's determined to find a way to fight the shadowfog, but all things considered, he doesn't care much about the world outside of his family. He's also worried about his secrets being revealed...

Lucien is relatively tall, at 6'. He has blond curls that he generally keeps well styled, but will often end up falling into his face, and brilliant blue eyes.
He wears fine yet simple clothingmore extravagant clothing reeks of new moneyand prefers black and white. The Wyvers were once a prosperous noble family, but when Lucien was a teenager, his parents were killed by the shadowfog. Their will stated that in the event of their deaths, their possessions would go to their children, unless they were underage, in which case, they would go to their aunt.
Lucien and Taz's aunt was unfortunately addicted to Astereth-made potions, and began trading away all the family possessions for them. There was nothing Lucien could do legally to stop her. So, although he was still in school, he began looking for work, something he would have never anticipated. He fought to keep up appearances, not wanting the other nobles to know that the house of Wyver had fallen so far.
He got a job writing for the newspaper under a pseudonym, so that no one ever knew it was him. In fact, he still writes for the paper to this day.
However, that wasn't enough. As his aunt traded away more and more of their valuables, and the family was left with hardly anything to eat, Lucien began to panic. Finally, desperate, he turned to sex work. He didn't want to do it and knew that if anyone ever found out it would mean scandal, and harm the Wyver name, but he couldn't find any other way to provide for the family. So, he took every precaution to keep it secret. Other than his very first client, a teacher at his school, he made sure that none of them knew who he was, although some made comments about his seeming to be from higher up on the social scale. He also never told his sister, lying about where he had been, how he was getting the food. He felt that she didn't need to know the truth. Even then, it was difficult to scrape by, but they were doing better, and to Lucien, it was worth it.
After some time, one of the councilors announced that he was stepping down, and Lucien decided to run for the position, himself. He was young, but he had been planning to someday make the council for years. Balancing campaigning along with everything else was difficult, but it paid off when he won.
After joining the Council, Lucien had the teacher who had been his first client killed. It was done in a way that made it seem like an accident, and no one ever suspected that Lucien had anything to do with it.
Not long after he was elected, Taz had her own idea to help the family by marrying her best friend, the matriarch of the Ellington house, which had also fallen on hard times. Lucien gave his blessing, although he did regret the necessity of joining the houses.
Since getting elected, Lucien has been trying desperately to find a way to fight the shadowfog, which not only threatens the entire world, but was also the root of all his family's troubles.
However, Lucien also has other worries. At one point, nearly ten years ago, another Cogworks teacher walked in on him and his first client in a compromising position. Lucien has considered trying to have him killed, as well, but has never had the opportunity. And so far, the teacher has caused no trouble. However, Lucien is worried that one day he will. He can't allow his past to be revealed, and so he continues to think of ways to deal with the teacher.Enchantment:

Lucien and Taz have always been close and have only grown closer in the years since their parents' deaths. With the exception of certain things Lucien has kept from her about his past, they tell each other everything. They can talk about anything, and while sometimes they fight, as all siblings do, they've never had a serious argument.![]()

ENCHANTMENTS AND CHARMS ────────────────────────────────
The status of a noble is defined by power and possession of desirable goods, and the Ellingtons have controlled the city's water supply for generations. Throughout the known history of Voxthain, there has always been an Ellington on the Council, an Ellington heading the Tinkerer's Hall, and an Ellington controlling the flow of goods and services. That is, until now.
Galian Ellington was the black sheep of his family and the youngest of five kids. He paid no mind to politics or trade or the magic of engineering, having known since birth that he would never be important enough to hold any real position of power in the city. And then the accident happened, shadowfog overtaking the family's carriage on a trip out of the city. Galian was the sole survivor, the last remaining Ellington, only alive because he had not been asked to join on the trip. He was twenty and recently married with a child on the way, and he had to quickly figure out how to run the Ellington empire all by himself.
Naturally, things went poorly. By the time Fae was born, her mother was too embarrassed to show her face around town. Galain did not have the public support to get elected to the Council nor the magical know-how to run the Tinkerer's Hall, so all he had left was the water. Even as a very young child, Fae could see how much her father struggled to hold everything together. The other noble families snapped at his last shreds of power, foaming at the mouth for the chance to steal the Ellington empire. Her mother entirely absent, locked away in her rooms with her potions, and her father inept, Fae knew it would fall to her to uphold the Ellington legacy.
And so Fae did what she could to prepare for righting all of her father's wrongs and pulling back all that they had lost. She honed her natural inclination for enchantment and illusion magic, sure that those skills would aid her in her tasks and knowledgeable of the fact that the engineering side of the family was lost for good. She studied up on politics and trade, learned everything she could about the water rights of citizens and her family's history in controlling that access. It was hard work, but it was worth it in knowing what she was fighting to regain.
A sore spot in Fae’s life was her mother’s abuse of mind-altering potions. She often sent Fae down into Asterath to collect her potions, to blissed out to care about her young daughter’s safety. While on one of those trips, head veiled by a cloak and hands shaking with a fear that never subsided no matter how many trips she took down into her sister city, she saw another girl around her age in the apothecary. The two reached for the last potion on the shelf at the same time, two small, stubborn hands unwilling to loosen their grip on the bottle. Fae desperately needed the potion, scared of her mother’s reaction if she returned empty-handed. It seemed the girl was feeling a similar desperation, eyes wild and teeth clenched. Fae let her have it, trusting her safety even if she would have to weather her mother’s wrath.
A few days later, Fae spotted the girl at Cogworks and finally recognized her. She was Topaz Wyver, the child of a noble family in a similar position to hers. It seemed like the similarities between their households ran deeper than what was obvious at the surface. Feeling a deep sense of compassion and understanding for the girl, Fae chose to approach her during a break at school. The story wrote itself from there. Fae and Taz instantly clicked, two halves of one whole. They were inseparable, leaning on each other to get through the hard days, more sisters than friends.
While Fae was focused on her learning, life continued to move on around her, the Ellington name falling further into obscurity. When she was twelve, her mother became pregnant with her second child. She was so out of it all of the time with her potions that the pregnancy came as a shock to all of them, including Fae's mother herself. The pregnancy was hard on her, even more so with her continued use of mind-altering potions. No matter how much Fae begged her to take care of herself and the doctors warned her to slow down the use of the potions, she would not listen. When Alaric was born, her body was so weak that she just couldn't recover. When she died, she left even more on Fae's shoulders. Not only did she have the weight of her family's legacy, but she also had to raise her brother.
Without Taz there to support her, Fae probably wouldn't have been able to finish school. Raising her brother, who she loved with her whole heart, was so much work on top of everything else she was already holding herself accountable for. But somehow, she did it, and she graduated from Cogworks with her completed tracks in Enchantment and Illusions with perfect marks. The day that she graduated, Fae approached her father to discuss the way forward. She expected him to want some control over the Ellington name, but instead he took her interest as an excuse to dump everything onto her and leave Voxthain entirely. The last time Fae spoke to her father was in his office, diploma still in hand, dressed for the graduation party she was attending later that evening.┏

The head of a dying noble family at eighteen, Fae had to be larger than life and more powerful than she felt. The finances were a mess, they no longer had any ties to the Council, and their only ally was the House Wyver, which was in just as bad of a position as the Ellingtons. It was all too much for Fae to handle alone, and Alaric was still only six years old—still far too young to help Fae with any of the tasks that were piling up before her. She was drowning. It was all so much and despite her years of preparation, she wasn't ready for the weight of the responsibility. Some days it was hard to stop herself from following in her father's footsteps and leaving or taking after her mother with self-medicating.
Six months after graduating, Fae reached her breaking point. She hadn't felt the warmth of Luminos on her skin or the rustle of a breeze in so long that she wasn't sure that she could even recall the sound of a bird chirping. Life was futile. The numbers would never add up and the only Councilor who had returned even a single one of her letters was Taz's older brother. How could pull the Ellington name out of the gutter when there were no Ellingtons left to care? The exact moment that Fae had given up on her family, Taz burst into her home office, grin shining on her face and concern hidden deep within her eyes. She had come up with a genius plan to save both of their families: marriage. While Fae loved Taz with her whole heart and soul, not a drop of that feeling was romantic. Fae wasn't sure that she could feel that kind of attraction to anyone, and she knew Taz felt the same way. There was nobody else she would ever want to marry, and there would never be a better reason or time to do so.
That winter, Fae and Taz married their noble families together into the Ellington-Wyver noble household with the blessing of their siblings. It was easier to run the day-to-day of the household with Taz there to carry some of the weight, and it was immensely useful to her standing to have a familial relationship with a member of the Council. Over the next several years, Fae slowly clawed back the shreds of acclaim her family once held. It has been a long road, but at 26, she feels like she’s finally regaining her footing.
Fae has shaped herself into the perfect picture of what she thinks a noble should be. She is poised and charming, back straight and face adorned with a pleasant smile. She is polite to strangers and welcoming to all that she meets. All of her kindness feels superficial and shallow, because in reality it is. It's all an act, a disguise of a noble woman. Deep down she is calculating and stubborn, playing 4D chess with every interaction, even when it isn't strictly necessary. She strongly believes that all nobles view the world the same way she does, and would be surprised if anyone expressed true emotion differently.

Elliot tends be impulsive, and downright reckless. He can be a bit of a rule-breaker and had a reputation as a prankster when he attended Cogworks. Growing up the way he did only strengthened his rebellious attitude. He takes pride in the fact that he's nothing like his family. He has a tendency to joke about his childhood, which might surprise some people, but joking has always been his coping mechanism.

Elliot is 6'1" with brown eyes and brown hair that he keeps about shoulder-length.
Being in the militia, he has to wear the uniform, but when he's not wearing that, he's probably dressed in jeans and his leather jacket. The Delacroixs are one of the oldest noble families of Voxthain, and very proud of that fact. As the eldest son of its leaders, Eliot was the Delacroix heir, but he had no interest in being the sort of heir his parents wanted. He hated all the rules and restrictions, the family's prejudices, and feelings of superiority. Most of all, he hated his parents, who were both verbally and physically abusive.
Elliot faced serious punishment for disobedience, but he was determined not to allow his fear of his parents to control him. At Cogworks, he chose his own friends, ignoring those his parents would have preferred he associate with, and hanging out with those they considered inferior.
His parents were furious that their heir was such a disappointment. They would often demand why he couldn't be more like his younger brother, Draven, who was far more obedient, not to mention more skilled with magic.
The brothers were close when they were little, and Elliot would often do his best to protect Draven, taking as much of the punishments on himself as he could. But as they got older, Elliot began spending more and more time with his friends from school, and less and less with his brother, who seemed to be growing more like their parents with each passing year.
When Elliot was a teenager, his parents began threatening to disinherit him, but he declared that he didn't care. He spent as much time as possible at his friends' houses, avoiding his family to a greater extent than ever. He began considering just leaving for good, even if he was still underage.
But one day, Draven confronted him. He told him that their parents were seriously considering disowning him. Elliot replied that he would welcome it, and then mentioned that maybe he should just run away. But he saw the fear in his brother's eyes, and suddenly, he began to worry. Draven had never been punished as much as him, he was the good son, but Elliot realized that Draven was terrified at the idea of being left alone with their parents. So, he put away the idea of escaping and tried to spend a little more time at home, but it didn't last long. He couldn't stand it, and soon he was back to going to his friends' after school, spending the night whenever possible. He did, once, bring up the possibility of him and Draven running away together, but Draven wouldn't hear of it.
Elliot began to consider leaving again, but before he could make the decision, he turned eighteen, and his parents seemed to decide that they had given him long enough. They disowned him mere days after his birthday, telling him to leave.
Elliot sort of wished he had left before being told to, but he liked having an excuse. He packed his bags, and didn't look back. He stayed with a friend while he finished his final year at school.
After graduation, he joined the militia run by the Hayden family, who weren't particularly close with the Delacroixs, and the Hayden matriarch agreed not to let his family know where he was. He soon took the position of investigator.Abjuration:

Elliot and Draven were close when they were little, and Elliot used to do his best to protect his little brother from their abusive parents whenever he could. But as time went on, the two began to drift apart. Elliot felt that Draven was becoming too much like their parents, he was sick of being told that he should be more like him, and besides, he was spending more and more time with his friends from school. Not wanting to leave Draven was one of the reasons he didn't run away, but after getting disowned, he left without even really saying good-bye. He still sort of misses his brother, although he would never admit it.

[trigger warning: suicide, murder]
lala grew up in the notorious delacroix family, a noble family of great wealth and an even bigger will in voxthain. like all children in voxthain, lala attended cogworks school and remained there until she was eighteen, which was nine years ago. since she was small, lala had always been too smart for her own good. her grades were all that mattered to her, and this worried her parents. after all, the delacroixs weren’t known for their amazing brains, but more for their amazing mouths and manipulation skills. but lala, like the special kid she was, became the nerd of the family. instead of spending precious time bonding with friends, she sat by herself with an economics book in front of her, or a military one.
when lala was fourteen, she suddenly had the idea to create, launch and run the school’s newspaper. and of course, lala being lala, this fantasy quickly became reality, and poof! the school newspaper was born. many people wrote for it, and many others read it, becoming a very popular school thing. people were surprised at it being a delacroix who started the newspaper, but upon seeing studious lala, they thought that she was a cute, innocent, well-intended and harmless girl with a huge brain. if they saw lala now, they wouldn’t believe the two were the same person. when she left the school, lala’s beloved newspaper passed to her cousin, draven.
of course, all lala’s success made her much more popular at cogworks, but also prompted lots of jealousy. thanks to her parents, lala only talked to those with famous connections and names and the toxic and snobbish people that belonged high up in society in order to gain fame amongst them and promote the delacroix family. she turned down friendship offers with people like lucien wyver, whose house was crumbling and not worth being associated with. but naturally, all this time with horrible people started influencing the ray of sunlight also known as lala delacroix.
but then suddenly, when she was sixteen, a bully decided that she’d had enough spotlight time, and he was jealous of her popularity, happiness and brains. he knew that if she got worse grades, she would lose her self-confidence, and she would lose popularity. and the only way to decrease her grades were to distract her, so he started feigning feelings for her and started fake dating her. but lala, being blind to things like real friendship and being surrounded by false friends everyday, didn’t see that he really didn’t care about her. the poor girl took it all very seriously. and because she cared, genuinely, her grades started decreasing as she worried about her new ‘boyfriend’ as he kept on getting ‘sick’ on exam days.
lala had one true friend, a girl called anna. anna, despite not being in a noble family, cared about lala. she wrote for the newspaper, and would often check in on lala’s health - both mental and physical. and she was ‘dating’ lala’s ‘boyfriend’s’ best friend, a person more horrible than lala’s ‘boyfriend’. the girls were both hopeless romantics and they believed in their ‘boyfriends’.
until, of course, two years into their relationship and their last year at cogworks, they finally caught the two boys cheating on them with prostitutes. lala was so angry she struggled to process it all. but anna was devastated. she had given up everything for this boy, only to find he had been toying her all along. and anna ended her own life by jumping off cogworks’s tallest tower. that was the last straw for lala. her hatred for both boys finally spilled over the top when she found anna’s limp body, and anna being an orphan, she had no family to bury her, so lala had to do it herself. she buried her best friend with her writing notebook, a photo of the two and the promise that the boys would pay.
never again would lala be weak.
never again would she be defenceless.
never again would she be manipulated.
oh no, she would be the one manipulating others.
screw kindness. screw being a model student.

⠀⠀23⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀female⠀⠀⠀voxthain⠀⠀⠀councilor/sergeant⠀⠀⠀ lesbian⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀evocation
Caledonia is not someone to mess with. She gives off an intimidating aura, and is very cold, short, direct; businesslike if you don’t know her well. When the rare individual gets behind her veneer, Caledonia can be warmer, kind, and extremely loyal, sometimes to a fault. She adores her loved ones as well as any cats she can find, and has a soft spot for children.
She’s an intelligent, determined person who stops at nothing to get the job done and protect the innocent people of Voxthain, someone willing to even commit treason and murder if she thinks it will help innocents or save a life. Cal is hardworking, ambitious, and doesn't take no as an answer, unafraid to call someone out. The woman has a bit of rash streak when it comes to her loved ones, and if they’re in trouble she’ll stop at nothing to help them.
Cal also struggles with her temper. She used to get into many fights as a kid, and while now she’s worked on controlling it, she still doesn’t mince words and may occasionally want to hit people in her rage. She knows it’s not great and is working on it, but mostly she just gets pissed and it’s visibly obvious.
While she’s insecure deep down and feels like she’s breaking, she also has a sense of knowing just how good she is at her job and at her combat abilities, and will defend and stand up for herself if need be. Sometimes she can come across as arrogant, but it’s really a cover for her insecurities, fears, and general struggles with people. Years of being bullied and abused have turned her mistrustful of humanity as a whole, unsure how to befriend people, and extremely touch averse. Cal tends to think the worst of nobles and men, and she isn’t afraid to stand up to them. She does, however, adore children and will protect them and innocents with her life.
Introverted, a reader and stargazer, Cal likes being alone but deep down, is terrified to always be lonely. It’s not something she shares, and besides distrusting people, is also unsure how to make friends. She’s tough on her militia subordinates, good at talking business, being snarky, but not making small talk and friends. She’s intelligent when it comes to history and magic, but not science and mathematics.
She’s very prideful and often refuses to ask for help. Cal is independent, cold, and speaks her mind. Her downsides are mainly her temper, which sometimes has her snapping and hurting people, and her slight impatience. She hates high society and stupid gala like events between noble houses and Councilors, finding them stifling and fake. She hates Voxthain because of the focus on their nobility and wealth, and believes the Council is a wise decision, but that the nobility needs to go—or realize that they’re no better than anyone else.![]()

Caledonia is 5' 11" and very muscular and fit. She has pale skin and high cheekbones, with green eyes and dark brown hair. Her hair is wavier and short. She also has a lot of scars from fighting and abuse--she has a lot of lash scars covering her back, as well as smaller burn scars on her collarbone, stomach, and legs. Caledonia also has tattoos on her upper arms--a thorny rose that winds its way up her arm, and a dagger on her back, and some quotes and stars. She has multiple piercings on each ear.
Cal’s clothing style is simple: she doesn’t like the wealthy attire of nobility, but does wear more fancy clothes for Council sessions to be seen as respectable. She’ll wear boots, nice pants, and a nice vest or shirt, and when not on duty, she wears something easy to move and fight in, and refuses dresses at all times. She’s a more masculine person and feels at ease in more normal men’s commoner’s attire. Cal always has a weapon on hand—her magic, a gun, and a sword.Caledonia was born in Faerûn to impoverished parents: a father who left her to die as a one year old in an alleyway, and a mother who died in childbirth. She was found, screaming for her father, crying, by a passing individual who brought to an orphanage. While she had a roof over her head, the next few years were cold, miserable, and trauma-inducing. The place was run by an abusive woman, and thus her mistrust of adults got worse here.
When she was almost five, the shadowfog reached her town. People screamed, leaving, abandoning it, and in the chaos, the orphanage caught fire. Cal was only saved that night by Katarina Hayden, a visiting Voxthain noble and Councilor. Cal attached herself to her rescuer, who brought her back to Voxthain, and eventually fell in love with the woman who became her mother. She was adopted and reared with adoration and love from Katarina, who eventually earned her trust and love, despite Cal's horrific trauma from her first five years between abuse, abandonment, fire, and the shadowfog.
But, her adoptive father, James Laughlin, a classist Voxthain noble, hated the commoner-born Caledonia, and began to abuse her behind closed doors, threatening her life and Katarina's if she told her mother. So she kept silent and suffered for over a decade. She was also subject to endless taunting, gossip, and bullying from the other nobles. All this turned Caledonia cold, and added to her layer of distrust at the world. She had already been scarred from the fire, orphanage, and shadowfog, and now these.
At Cogsworks, she learned to better use her magic, while also training under her mother to run the Hayden's militia one day. She was a prodigy--strong, talented in combat, even if she struggled with some subjects like math and science at school. It was at Cogsworks she met her best friend, Lady Avaliyah Thorne, a noble who had an open mind. They got off to a rocky start, but after many attempts on Vali's part, Cal relented, and they became close. Cal trusted her so much she opened up about her father, and they went on outings together, picnics, riding, etc.
But when Cal was fifteen, she realized she had a crush on her best friend. When she realized Avaliyah felt the same way, they began dating in secret, hiding it from Cal's father, who hated her for not being heterosexual, and who had been increasingly abusive over the years despite Cal's eventual rise to station as a Councilor at a young age of seventeen or eighteen. She had always been loved by the people, as Cal hated nobles and spent a lot of time among Voxthain's people. She fought for them when so many didn't, and so was elected with relative easy, which angered some classist nobles and Councilors who believed she shouldn't give commoners the light of day.
For many years, they were happier. But when another noble found her and Avaliyah kissing and told Caledonia's father, it was over. (view spoiler)
Caledonia came out of this hardened, colder, scared. She cut Vali off completely, despite a gaping hole in her chest of utter loneliness, but she's meaner now, too. While the incident was what sent her father to prison, as her mom found her daughter bleeding and broken on the ground, Cal has not recovered well. She has tried, but she will never be the same. Her anger, her mistrust of humanity, has all gotten much, much worse. In the aftermath, she did go to the prison and murder the men who assaulted her, including her father, in cold blood, a crime her mother has been covering up for her since it happened. She also joined the Asterath fighting ring under an alias.
She is trying to heal, and will spend time trying to enjoy life when she stargazes, hikes, spends time in the rain, spends times with cats, or in the city with the people. Cal has used her ability as a Councilor and a noble to work on setting up orphanages and womens' shelters across Voxthain, ones run well and safely, and she has a lot of fun getting to know the kids, pushing down a desire for a wife and her own kids one day.
With the bodies drained of magic appearing lately, and the shadowfog heading closer, Cal will do all she can to keep the innocent people of Voxthain from suffering.Magic: Evocation:

They were once best friends; lovers. Now, Cal avoids her because she is afraid of intimacy in a way she had not been before she was eighteen and her life fell apart again. Cunning, ambitious, arrogant, snobbish, and selfish are all words that describe Esmeralda Delacroix, née Calico. Esmeralda cares about nothing more than power and glory. She has a serious cruel streak, and doesn’t truly love anyone. She hates commoners, and even certain nobles, and raised her sons to, as well
not that she succeeded with Elliot at all. She would do anything to be on top, and is very manipulative. She only truly cares about herself and the Delacroix and Calico names. Names, not families. She cares about the lineage and prestige more than her relatives. She cut her one son out completely, and while she’s proud of her other sonwell, sometimes, at least, she doesn’t really care about him, per se. She is very adamant in her belief that noble lines should be kept pure, and therefore looks down on any nobles who marry commoners, not to mention those who have adopted commoners as their heirs. She also won’t hesitate to have anyone who stands in her way eliminated. Beware of crossing Esmeralda Delacroix, you just might end up dead.![]()
![]()
Esmeralda is 5'6" with long, thick black waves she often wears styled in updos, and blue eyes.
She wears mostly black, and occasionally other dark colors. Her general style is reminiscent of dark royalty core.Esmeralda was born the second child of the Calicos, one of Voxthain’s wealthiest noble families. The Calicoes were raised to see themselves as important, better than many of the other nobles, and far, far above the commoners. As the second child, and not the heir, this attitude wasn’t forced on her quite so much as it was on her older brother, but she took to it just as quickly, if not quicker. At Cogworks, she proved to be a powerful magic-user.
The Calicos were close with the Hayden family, but Esmeralda wasn’t as close to Katarina Hayden as Eadric and Aarlyn. She spent more time with the Delacroixs, one of the most powerful - as well as oldest - noble houses in the city.
Oliver, the Delacroix heir, proposed to Esmerelda on the day they both graduated Cogworks. Esmeralda didn’t love him, but she liked him well enough, they had shared interests, and marrying into the house of Delacroix would only grant her more power, and the marriage would be good for both families, so she accepted, and six months later, they were married in the biggest wedding Voxthain had seen in years. She was content with the arrangement. She had been in love once before, when she was sixteen, but her boyfriend had left her for her best friend, and she had no interest in ever going through anything like that again. Besides, she had always known she would be expected to marry for the good of the family. Not that she would have ever dreamed of dating a commoner. And the Delacroixs were the eilite of the elite. Perhaps even more so than the Calicos.
A few years later, her younger sister, Aarlyn left the city, and Eadric had a fight with their father after refusing to marry Katarina Hayden. Esmeralda couldn’t understand her brother’s stubbornness. After all, Katarina was his best friend, and Esmeralda wasn’t in love with her own husband. She was now a member of the House of Delacroix, but still, she feared her siblings’ decisions might stain her own reputation.
Esmeralda was elected to the Council, where she certainly didn’t do any good for the city. She was the typical politician, telling lies, selling whatever story would make her popular, and only ever really caring about the elite. Or, all things considered, not even truly caring about them, but only herself.
Then, one day, Esmeralda received word that her younger sister, Aarlyn, had been killed by a strange fog slowly taking over the planet. Katarina Hayden had been visiting her when it happened and returned with a child she had adopted. The Delacroixs, disgusted by the woman adopting a commoner as her heir, had little to do with the House of Hayden from then on. Esmeralda did feel sadness at her sister’s passing, even if the two hadn’t been particularly close. But perhaps even stronger than that was the sudden fear that hit her with the realization that death could come so unexpectedly. As well as a cementing of the belief she already held: that caring about other people ended up affording nothing but pain in the end.
Meanwhile, Esmeralda and Oliver were trying for an heir, which was proving to be difficult. While she did get pregnant once, a few years after marriage, it resulted in a miscarriage. As time went on, Oliver’s father passed, leaving him head of the House, and things grew tense between the couple. Oliver’s younger brother and his wife had three daughters, while they still had no children. Neither Esmeralda nor Oliver liked the idea of passing the legacy down to their niece.
Finally, they had a son, Elliot. And two years later, a second son, Draven. Esmeralda had never really wanted children, but she had wanted an heir. With no love for her own children, and no real idea of how to raise them, Esmeralda soon adopted her husband’s own harsh methods. Her eldest son proved to be especially frustrating. She found them both annoying, but Elliot was particularly disobedient. It only got worse once he started attending Cogworks, and made friends Esmeralda and Oliver did not approve of in the least. As time went on, Elliot grew more and more rebellious. They gave up on the idea of ever making him what they wanted, and transferred their expectations to their younger son, Draven.
Draven proved to be a much better son than Elliot. As the boys grew into adolescence, Esmeralda and Oliver began to discuss disinheriting their eldest, in order to pass down their legacy to the son who was more like them. The only thing that kept them from disowning him was the fact that doing so while he was still a minor wouldn’t look good. Disowning an adult child was one thing, but kicking out a teenager was quite another. And so, they waited until he turned eighteen, before sending him packing.
By this point, Esmeralda had stepped down from her position as Councilor, and her niece, Loralei Delacroix, had been elected in her place. She still held much influence in politics, however, and the House of Delcroix continued to hold its reputation as one of the oldest and most prosperous noble houses.
About two years after they disowned their eldest son, Oliver Delacroix passed, and the title of patriarch went to eighteen-year-old Draven. While he may officially hold the title, however, Esmeralda is the true power of the house.Illusion:

Katarina Hayden is one of the most calm, collected, and kind people across Lux. She is very motherly, always there to aid someone in need, and to help a friend. Kat is a very patient, slow-to-anger person, too, which makes her a very good choice for a Councilor, and in her day she was popular. Well. With the people, anyway. With the other nobles, less so. Why? Because Katarina believed the people who were not nobles should be treated better, because she fought the nobility who were very classist. She's always been an open-minded person, and very compassionate.
She is very morally upright, always working to help people out, to make those she loves feel cared about and valued. Katarina has a big heart, but all this doesn't mean she takes crap. She does not. Kat isn't angered easily (unless it involves her daughter), and often is able to let insults slide off her like rainwater, as she is used to being the butt of rumors, but lets it slide, as she knows her value. Despite this and her confidence, she is never afraid to be sassy sometimes, to give off a quippy comment that lets everyone know just how powerful and deadly she can be.
Katarina was a stellar combatant and Councilor back when she was, and remains a good leader despite having stepped down from her roll a good number of years back.
Again, she loves children and animals, and has a soft heart for humanity while also being capable of leading and keeping calm, direct and in charge in rough situations. Katarina does not have a very sadistic side, but if someone harms her loved ones, she may snap. That said, she doesn't usually seek revenge on the people who harmed her, and is of the belief they will get what is coming to them. But if the opportunity presents itself, she may subtly do something like demote a soldier who had been a sexist asshole with with a small smirk. So, Katarina also has a small rebellious side that peeks out now and then.

Kat stands at 5'9" with pale--almost porcelain--skin. She has long, thick black hair that falls to her elbows, and a small nose and thin face. She has bright blue eyes and a muscular form, with some battle scars. Katarina's left leg is also a magically enhanced prosthetic up to her knee.
Katarina was born into a powerful and influential Voxthain noble family, as their eldest child and heir. Her family had a long history of being skilled fighters and ran the militia, and Katarina took that to heart and a liking to learning how to defend people early. Unfortunately, her mother, the head of her family, was a very touchy woman who wanted her daughter to focus more on keeping the family name alive.
As a result, she did not get along well with her, while her father tried to play peacemaker, albeit taking Katarina's side often and being powerless to stop her mother from doing whatever she wanted. Part of the reason, Kat knew, was because while the Haydens were powerful, her mother was not skilled in magic, and that was too dreadful to admit, so Laurellia took out her irritation in wanting to be wealthy, powerful, carry on the family line. Her lack of magical gifts, as well as the subsequent loss of two children (one died of disease as a child and one was a stillborn), made her a cross, stern woman who wanted all things adhered to protocol. She did not want Katarina focusing only on being a Councilor one day, but also on running their personal estate and getting married.
Katarina coped by training. Early on, she began to love to use guns, swords, and axes, as well as magic. She went to Cogsworks, focusing on a few things she had affinity for: air, shadows, emotions. She also coped by reading a lot and meeting the people in Voxthain, as she liked to get around and know everyone as human beings, not as people her noble status lorded over.
There, she befriended Voxthain noble Eadric Calico, whose parents were friends with her mother. They met at a young age, but she became close to him and his sister, Aarlyn, as students. She took comfort in their friendship given her own siblings had died as children. They learned magic together, studied, and, one day, she and Eadric were elected Councilors. Aarlyn had sought adventure and went to explore Lux, travelling Asterath and Faerûn. Aarlyn never settled, and she was in and out of the place for seven years.
During this time, when Kat was about twenty-one, her mother laid down an ultimatum: Katarina had to marry to secure the Hayden's lineage, get an heir, or Laurellia was giving their title over to a ruthless cousin. Enraged, Katarina agreed to marry, as she had had a habit of throwing off anyone who wanted her hand. She realized she never felt nor wanted to feel romantic love. But, to be better able to keep people safe, she agreed to marry.
She had wanted to marry her friend--Eadric--but unfortunately, he had fallen in love with someone else when Kat finally agreed to wed. Her mother, anyway, liked another man--James Laughlin, from Asterath--because she thought it would bring some guarantee that the gangs would never harm their family. Kat thought it was ridiculous, but it was marry him or her mother would blackmail and disown her. But Laughlin was vile, using his nefarious upbringing to cause problems, but he spoke of power, so Laurellia liked him. Katarina saw a darkness to him, as he never liked her in a position of power and spoke about wanting a son, but Katarina kept the secret only she knew: she could never have a biological child.
So they wed, but soon after, Kat's parents were killed in an accident, falling during a leisure trip when one of their in-the-air transport vehicles tipped. She was devastated at the loss of her father, but only stayed wed because she couldn't stand the thought of hurting her mother's memory that way...and because she felt that she could make him better. It was her biggest mistake. James was a terrible human, hiding most of his behavior later from her.
At twenty-seven/eight, Katarina was off visiting Faerûn with Aarlyn, taking a vacation from her councilor duties. It was a rewarding experience, and she wanted to keep the more nasty Council members in line. Still, she needed a break so Aarlyn volunteered to show her Faerûn. Kat loved it, but their trip turned lethal. They were there when the shadowfog encroached.
Neither woman knew what it was. Katarina started to pull people out of the way, her combat training taking over, while Aarlyn, like a fool, wanted to see what would happen if she touched it. She was killed instantly, and a grief-stricken Katarina never even got her body back--she took their transport after fleeing, helping people escape, and made her way to Runalithe to get her bearings, in shock.
It was all too much, the screams and the fact she couldn't do more. That Aarlyn was dead, magic leeched from her body alongside so many others. When she finally went home to tell Eadric, who already had a drinking problem, she knew it would get worse. She was in mourning for so long, and never got over the nightmares from the event, but it threw her into more preparations in case the shadowfog ever came to Voxthain.
She also came home with an adopted daughter she had saved from a burning orphanage in the chaos and the encroaching shadowfog. She got a prosthetic leg from saving the girl after she let the shadows eat her leg instead of the girl. Over the next few weeks, despite her grief, Kat worked up to earning the child's trust, and over the years, they became close. Caledonia was everything to Kat, who trained her in the militia and who became a stronger fighter than her, and who she cried happy, proud tears for when her daughter became a Councilor at a young age.
Cal showed Katarina how to better care about the people, and Kat has helped her with her mission of helping women and orphans across Voxthain. But what Kat didn't know until later was that James had started abusing Cal behind closed doors. She knew he had been unhappy when she adopted her without a word, as he was also classist, but she had no idea what he did to her for a decade, as Caledonia hid any evidence she could, and became an expert liar.
But Kat did know Cal struggled with being respected by the nobles and Council, and that her own family name was tarnished because of what she did, but Katarina didn't care. She arrested James when she found out about the abuse when Cal was eighteen after he had (view spoiler) , and divorced him. Katarina also did not bat an eye when Caledonia, in a hurt rage, murdered every man who had touched her that night. But this started the guilt. Katarina blamed herself for everything, and while she is close with her daughter, she has never stopped trying to be better and never stopped feeling horrific about everything.
Now, Kat is trying to work on the investigations after the magic-depleted bodies have been found, and as commander of the militia, she is very invested and worried and willing to cross lines maybe she shouldn't cross. She and Cal are working close together. She's also not a Councilor anymore, stepping back after everything: Aarlyn's death, exhaustion, and a desire to focus on her military career more.Magic: Evocation/Illusion/Enchantment:

Lord Eadric Calico is not someone to mess with when it comes to the law in his household, nor in Voxthain. He doesn't discriminate against people because of gender or sexuality, but he can be classist, as he was born into a wealthy noble house. The man also is unafraid to go to the authorities/military if he sees someone doing something illegal, such as using magic in a way that is not what Voxthain considers okay.
He can be a bit eccentric, and when he’s drunk or tipsy his decisions can be made in haste and on a whim. But usually his choices are thought out. Still, Eadric also has a slight anger issue, getting angered easily when he doesn’t get his way.
All this said, he has respect for Voxthain and the nobles, so as long as they serves to protect his family and heritage. This goes back to the classism--admittedly, Eadric is That Noble--the one who arrogantly thinks he and the other nobility are better than the common people, and he us unafraid to tell anyone this. He has always disliked the way the Councilors are chosen from among all people, and while in recent years maybe he understands it more, for a long time, he did not. So in a way, Eadric is quite selfish, and he clings to his power and wealth. He is also, though, kind of a family man and quite proud of his children. Most of them, anyway. He spoils them and gives them whatever they want. However, he does have a problem when it comes to his marriage--Eadric can be unfaithful to his wife. It isn't that he doesn't love her, he does, it's just...he feels he just can’t help himself, which is really bad. While Eadric knows it’s a fault of his, he doesn't know how to stop. Part of the issue is he also realized he was bisexual, and never told his wife, who is more homophobic than him, always making rude comments about the other queer nobles in Voxthain. So Eadric makes out with some men behind his wife's back. Sometimes.
He is very pro-military, but he disagrees with the way the Haydens run it, despite once being very close to Katarina Hayden. He wants them to focus it more on protecting the nobility, while she has it focused more on help and protection of the people and city as a whole.
Admittedly, he thinks highly of himself and his family, and wants the Calicos to look extremely strong. He wants to be the strongest noble family, but doesn't want infighting, so ultimately, he tries to keep peace and make sure everyone stays civil.
All this being said, Eadric he can be kind of graceful and gives some people a second chance--say, a servant who wronged him or something--so long as they actually seem apologetic. But it also depends on his mindset, and if he's sober or not at the time.
Eadric also highly values bravery, and can be courageous to a fault, often running headfirst into things when he feels very passionate--a lot can be summed about him in that word: passionate; passionate to keep his family strong; in his romantic endeavors; his drinking, his partying, about his opinions. Eadric stands at 6’ 3”. He comes from a very tall line and takes pride in his height. While Eadric enjoys treating himself, he makes sure to stay on top of his physical fitness. He has light blue eyes, a smaller nose, pale skin, and paler blond hair.
Eadric was born the eldest child to two longstanding, wealthy Voxthain nobles. His parents immediately spoiled him and his three younger siblings, Endran, Esmeralda, and Aarlyn, and thus Eadric was used to getting whatever he asked for. He was always told he was special, wealthy, and to make the Calicos proud. The child took this to heart, always on his best behavior, with an early interest in politics and some magic. He was given the best homeschooled education up until he was old enough to attend Cogsworks, where he specialized in Evocation with fire magic.
From a young age, he met a fellow Voxthain noble a few years younger than him, a similar age as Aarlyn, Katarina Hayden. While the Haydens were not as wealthy as the Calicos, they were close to it, and his parents seemed to respect the woman's mother and their militia and combat prowess. Eadric, Aarlyn, and Katarina became fast friends, and closer at Cogsworks.
Eadric learned he liked politics, but that he was not the most skilled when it came to physical fighting. It disappointed him, as he had considered joining the military, but in the end, Eadric didn't. Aarlyn, on the other hand, was more seriously considering it, but she was even more skilled as a mage. Torn between the military or another type of magic work, when Aalryn was in her twenties, she went soul-searching around Lux.
By that time, Eadric had been elected a Councilor, as this was a goal of his. His parents were quite proud of him, and he was very satisfied with his life--he had his best friend, Katarina, also a Councilor, and his sister. His brother Endran, younger than Aalryn, was finishing up his last few years at Cogsworks. Esmeralda, though...she was somehow always giving Eadric red flags. He agreed with some of her outlooks, but not all of it. And, his parents' pride in him didn't last. A few days after he was elected Councilor, his father and Katarina's mother came to them with a plan--marry to unite the families and secure the wealth--the military power and prestige of the Haydens, and the trade and specialization of gemstones and jewels of the Calicos. In was a smart match. But neither loved one another, and while they knew some nobles married best friends for wealth, Katarina and Eadric refused.
His father was furious. It was the end of a good relationship between them, and his father screamed he was wrecking the family. It was also something that worsened his relationship with Esmeralda. But Eadric had always been a slight romantic, wanting to marry a woman he loved and who loved him back. Or a man, but he never said a word about that. He had always been a playboy, flirting with people at Cogsworks and noble events, and he didn't want to settle down because he'd lose that way of life.
But then it hit him: love. Or so he thought. Elara, a beautiful noblewoman from Voxthain he had always seen as too quiet, one day was beautiful. She was smart, charming, and gorgeous, and he wondered why he had never seen it before. At twenty-five, they wed, and had their first child, Alianna, about two years later. She had been his pride and joy.
But his life crashed around his ears when, one day when he was about thirty-one, after about seven years of being a Councilor and no longer on speaking terms with his father (his mother still spoke to him, but both had moved to a summer manor across the city), Katarina returned from visiting Aarlyn in Faerûn. Katarina was injured, had lost a leg, brought home a street urchin...and carried news of Aarlyn's death at the hands of a terrible entity called the "shadowfog". It cast its own shadow over the lord's life, and Eadric was never the same. His drinking problems, which had already begun a few years ago when his father stopped talking to him, became chronic, and Eadric drowned his grief in so many different alcohols. Katarina tried to help him, but he pushed her away, and over the next few years their relationship crumbled as his classism got in the way of him ever respecting the family she was building. He also drowned it in other women and other men, behind Elara's back, because he couldn't help it and because he realized Elara was a bit homophobic, so he had to hide that part of himself from her. It fractured his relationship with Endran as well.
Eadric stepped down from Council a few years later, let someone else take his place. He became more distant, more heavy on the drinks when his father, soon after Aarlyn's death, sent one last note to his son: the land, the title, it was Eadric's. He was the new patriarch of the Calico estate and lands. Furious, Eadric's bad habits got worse, and over the years he has somewhat tried to heal through his wife and children, but it's hard.
To make matters worse, a few years ago, after his eldest and favorite daughter Alianna did not get elected for to Council when someone else stepped down, she left, vanished without a word. He had adored her to no end, blinded by how she played him, never believing anyone who said she was a terrible person. But after she left, Eadric's heart was torn in two. He had lost his favorite child, and he's been searching best he can in vain. But there have been no results. He also does not speak to Esmeralda much anymore, and was not surprised but kind of proud of her when she married the patriarch of the Delacroix family. He did care about wealth, even if he had refused to wed Katarina.Magic: Evocation/Transmutation:

Melody stands at around five foot four inches. She has very pale skin and natural blonde hair. Her eyes are a green-grey color. Melody wears only dresses and fancier accessories (bows, hair clips, purses, gold/silver jewelry, etc). Underneath all of the fancy dresses, Melody still has scars from her cousin. There is permanent discoloration from bruising on her back along with healed scars on her wrists and the inside of her arms which she hides.
Personality
Melody is a very obedient girl. If you ask her to do something, she will do it. She is also quite respectful and respectable. She is a very intelligent girl, having loved/loves learning. She is a bit of a wishful thinker, and doesn't often pursue her goals without being pushed by a friend. She is also a very shy girl, not one to introduce herself to a stranger.
Melody loves music, just like her name suggests. She is a skilled flute, piano, and opera singer. She enjoys to learn violin as well. While she doesn't write music, she has a grand library of sheet music for all of her instruments from years of practicing. Melody loves to eat magnos but she despises pineapples. She also loves cuddles and animals, especially birds. She enjoys learning, yep a nerd, and she loves being warm and warm weather. Along with that, she loves thick fuzzy blankets. Melody doesn't like movies, and she hates not succeeding and struggling (annoys her very much).
Melody suffers from Thanatophobia (fear of death and the dying process). She also has Entomophobia (fear of insects) and Arachnophobia (fear of spiders).
Melody is a very honest girl, as long as the truth is not going to send her to someplace terrible, she will not lie. She is also very patient, believing the best in every situation and everyone, and being quite understanding. She however is overly critical of herself, and she has a massive lack of confidence meaning she never does anything right in her eyes and she never pushes herself to do anything new.
Melody is bisexual, with no preference. She finds attractive in both men and woman. To her, the most attractive thing is height and brown hair, everything else doesn't really matter. But she'll give you bonus points if he has a muscular build or she has lots of curves.

History
The Seavey name is an ancient name. Passed down for generations in Voxthain, some rumor the founders of the noble name are even people who began the city of Voxthain. To the nobles and the people, Seavey's are some of the most admired people. The name is known for it's hiring and hospitality for those who work inside the palace (they hire any age above 10yo) amongst the people, giving them a dependable income along with a bed to sleep in and food to eat. To the nobles, they are one of the purest bloodlines out there, having hosted annual balls to find matches for the sons with only noblewomen. However, when a son takes a bride, she must take his name before being wed and leave her family behind. Similarly, to keep good alliances with the other nobles, the Seavey line always offers their daughters up for arranged marriages, making them from as early as the age of 15, attend balls for men and be married out of the Seavey name into a new one.
Melody is the youngest of four kids. She was born to the Seavey family as the younger twin of her parents last set. Around the same time, her aunt and uncle gave birth to her cousin (now disowned).
Growing up, Melody took a great liking to music. She adored her mother's singing and piano skills, and aspired to be like the woman. She would sit on her mother's lap while she played piano, and try her best to sing along to her mother. She began singing as soon as she could speak, and never left her mother's side creating an unbreakable bond. Her older brothers also created strong bonds with her, and although they had separate interests they always were kind enough to make time for the four to spend together. On the other hand, her father put less of an effort in to taking care of Melody and only criticized her when she did something wrong.
From the ages of 7 to 13, Melody began to experience the unthinkable: bullying. Being a daughter of the direct bloodline of the Seavey family, Melody had a purpose in life whether she liked it or not. However, her cousin didn't like it, the girl was jealous. It began when her toys began to go missing, music would be ripped and destroyed, and the girl would borrow things and never return them. But quickly that wasn't enough and it evolved into nasty notes and more detrimental damage to her property.
The longer things went on, the more people noticed the subtle details, including the way that Melody began to hide her music. Instead of showing off her playing, she would hide in her room to play. Instead of being chatty and happy, she became shyer and less talkative.
When things took a whole new turn at 12 years old her brothers noticed. Melody's hair would be pulled out in small chunks, she had small bruises across her body, and she had no self-confidence like she had as a kid. At her 13th birthday ball, her cousin tried to ruin her dress, cake, and steal her gifts, and her brothers caught on. They told her mother who immediately comforted her and tried to pull out the truth.
Days later after being interrogated, Melody watched as her mother informed her father who never showed her any love personally. To her surprise, the man did act to protect her. A week later, Melody watched as an announcement was made that her cousin was no longer a member of the Seavey noble family and she was stripped of her last name.
After that, she began to recover and her father sent her to Cogsworth academy to give her a new start. Things started slowly for her as she adjusted to her new life and safety.
Things went well at first, Melody felt important seen. She had everything she wanted. Until new students began showing up, common people. The ones that lived in shacks rather then manors, and weren't invited to balls. Upon their arrival, Melody noticed the attention they got and the lack she received. As a result, she began to ruthlessly pick apart all of the new students, finding their insecurities and secrets and going as far as she could to make it so she had the attention she deserved.
The only release she had a was music. Calming melodies and harmonies she could sing and play in lonely areas away from people. She was very set on never being heard by anyone, not even her mother anymore, after the harsh words her cousin had used to describe her playing and everything about her.
Her fifteenth birthday gala came and went. Melodies life changed as she became more responsible and realized that her life could be turned around any second. She could be pulled from school and be married away from her mother and brothers against her will. She began rebuilding her relationships, growing closer to them and confiding more in them as she became aware.
Melody is about to graduate Cogsworth, marking the finishing of her education. She still has scars, mentally and physically, from the beatings that her cousin gave her. While she is learning to play in front of people again, Melody is still afraid of preforming.![]()

Name: Isley Rhiannon Calico
Nicknames: Iz, Izzy
Age: 18
Gender: F
Home City: Voxthain
Role: Noble
Appearance: Isley’s shiny, golden blonde hair is woven with strands of strawberry, honey, and ginger, and it ripples down to her mid-back in loose waves. Her favorite way to wear it is either in a half-up style or just down because then she can flip it over her shoulder dramatically for fun. If she’s dancing or looking for an adventure, she typically braids or fishtails it to keep it out of the way. The only times she tolerates more elaborate styles are for galas and special, formal events. Her eyes are deep, cerulean blue with a few flecks of silver that make them appear to sparkle in the light. Being of noble blood and born into a charmed life, her skin is velvety soft, free of callouses except for her feet, which have been abused from excessive dancing despite her best attempts to care for them afterwards. A faded, white scar sits just above her left hipbone from a childhood accident, and a few, smaller scars, though very faint, are still visible around her hands and knees from various adventures in her youth. Her height is roughly 5’6, and she has a lean, toned dancer’s body and a heart-shaped face with a small splattering of freckles across her cheeks. Like her build, her facial features are petite and delicate, and she has a small, celestial nose and pale pink, bottom-heavy lips. She has an elongated neck, slim shoulders, and a slender waist, but her bosom is nothing to envy. Her hips are only a touch narrower than her shoulders, and she’s decently curvy. However, her long torso makes clothes shopping torturous. Lucky she comes from a rich family and can afford to have all her clothes tailored or custom made. Her long, slender fingers are perfect for music and dance, and she’s not above using her nails as tools provided she’s not planning on attending anything too fancy in the near future. Her ankles and feet are tiny, so more often than not she prefers to be barefoot if she can get away with it.
Her dress style is constantly changing as she loves to experiment with new styles and colors. One of her favorite past times is designing her own clothes, so she’s often seen wearing pieces that are uniquely her. Her taste in fashion and jewelry is exquisite (after all, she is a Calico), and she can piece together an outfit out of just about anything. Mostly she wears dresses of varying lengths and styles unless she’s out adventuring, in which case she opts for a skirt or shorts. As much as she loves strutting down the street in high heels like it’s her own personal runway, her small ankles make that especially challenging, so she can be seen barefoot or wearing flat shoes equally as often as heels. Her jewelry collection is extensive thanks to her dad’s wallet, so she’ll wear all kinds of pieces ranging from vintage to bohemian to minimalist styles, depending on what suits her mood. Her approach to makeup is in line with her ever-changing wardrobe, and she might choose to paint on a wild, outrageous look for kicks or just wear nothing at all, whatever she feels like in the moment.
Personality: Isley loves to have fun, no matter what anyone else may think of her for it. She possesses a strong sense of adventure and seeks thrills and excitement, always eager to try or explore new things and places. Because of her fearless nature and fascination with taking risks, she is a borderline adrenaline junkie. Rarely is she ever bored, and she is exceptional at finding or making her own fun. Although novelty has great value in her world, she is capable of finding joy even in small, ordinary things, and she has a positive, carefree outlook on life. She loves tournaments and games and parties almost as much as she loves to laugh or stop and smell the roses. Sitting still and quietly is not among her virtues, and she is always itching to be doing something or going somewhere. Her penchant for movement has been channeled into dance and music since she was young, and so she has flourished into a phenomenal dancer, adept at every discipline and style she can learn. Her talent and poise are rivaled by very few, but she has no desire to focus her attention on turning dance into a professional career. It is simply one of her favorite things to do and as such, is also one of the few regards in which she truly applies any sort of dedication. Her talents also extend to music, and although she has committed much more of her time to dancing, she can still play multiple instruments with moderate skill, having been in music lessons since she was a child. One of her favorite ways to amuse herself and her friends is to compose silly, little ditties and perform them in an especially exaggerated or ridiculous fashion, just to coax a laugh or tease a smile out of her friends, although her own smile is so infectious on its own that it typically doesn’t need any assistance.
Her idiosyncratic charm can draw most people in without any conscious effort on her part, and she tends to make friends wherever she goes. Her circle of friends is large and always expanding, and her friendly nature and fearless personality compel her to speak with anyone she crosses paths with. She is a popular socialite and tends to be the life of the party or the center of attention with her contagious laugh and lively disposition, but she doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight with other people, whether they be friends or strangers. In fact, she rather enjoys shoving her friends into the limelight because she thinks it’s more fun that way, though she does try not to make her shy and introverted friends uncomfortable. Her social influence is nothing to sneeze at. However, some of the nobility (particularly the older members) view her in a less complimentary light and think of her as too whimsical and avant-garde. None of this bothers her since she’s self-confident and content with the way she is, and she doesn’t like to compromise herself for the sake of others’ personal preferences if she can help it.
She is also fairly well-liked among the common populace for her charity work and positive, friendly nature. In addition to other things, she loves to organize concerts and music events for the city and even performs herself from time to time, all for free of course. Although she grew up in a very classist home, she likes to be out and about in the city among all the citizens whether noble or not, and she doesn’t see anything wrong with talking to people from common backgrounds. Anything new or different is fascinating to her, so she likes to meet all sorts of people and interact with them, even if they aren’t the types of people her parents would approve of. She still does discriminate against people of a lesser socioeconomic standing than herself. She grew up hearing that they weren’t as important, interesting, or smart compared to the nobility and that the nobles were superior in every respect. While she privately disagrees that the common people are incapable of being or doing anything of interest, her parents’ beliefs still form most of the framework through which she observes the general population. However, even though she thinks more highly of the nobles than the common citizens, she can’t help but be pleasant and positive towards them when she does encounter a commoner. It isn’t in her nature to behave in a spiteful or haughty way as that would interfere with her fun-loving spirit on an unforgiveable level.
She has excellent social smarts and is hyper observant of unspoken cues and minute changes in behavior, cadence, and tone. She also has a stellar memory for details and absorbs information like a sponge if the subject is of any interest to her. Otherwise, anything boring or tedious goes in one ear and right out the other. If she wanted to, she could be highly skilled at manipulating other people, but that doesn’t sound particularly fun or worth the time and energy to her. Her pattern recognition skills are superb. She sees and interprets everything around her in terms of rhythms and patterns, and she uses these skills to understand people’s personalities and motivations and sometimes to guess what their future actions might be given a specific set of circumstances. Mostly this skill set is wasted on frivolous purposes like games and the occasional betting, but it comes in handy when she needs it to.
She has a difficult time working hard at anything she doesn’t think is fun or worth her time, and she is adamant about what she does and doesn’t enjoy. Classroom learning is not her style, and to truly learn anything, she has to figure it out and teach herself. She is not a patient person except in regards to a few, certain interests, and she often procrastinates on completing tedious or useless (in her opinion) tasks in favor of pursuing some, other exciting exploit. Her status as a noble only further fuels this behavior as she believes she has the right to be irresponsible whenever it suits her and as long as she isn’t hurting anyone.
Her preferred way to trade is with favors and secrets instead of magic or tangible objects. To her, this is much more interesting and thrilling than bartering with traditional items to get what she wants. However, this tendency can skirt dangerously close to recklessness from time to time, and she enjoys thrills and danger a little too much for her own good. It hasn’t gotten her into trouble so far, but it likely will at some point.
All in all, despite her collection of bizarre idiosyncrasies, Isley is a very positive, friendly, and cheerful young lady. She loves nothing more than to bring a smile to her friends’ faces and to spread her infectious joy wherever she goes. There’s too much to love in life to do anything but dance through it.

Magic: Izzy never spent much time honing her magic skills, so her powers are limited. Her natural talent lies in elemental magics, and she can manipulate water and earth with moderate skills. Her strongest ability is her manipulation of plant life as that was the only kind of magic she found fun to learn and practice. She also has minor powers of illusion which she typically uses for fashion purposes (e.g. to make the fabric of her clothing appear to be color-changing) and other, frivolous aims and the ability to befriend animals.
Family:
Father: Eadric Calico
Mother: Elara Calico
Siblings: Alianna Calico
Aunts: Esmeralda Delacroix
Cousins: Elliot and Draven Delacroix
History: Isley was born in the lap of luxury, the rich and illustrious Calico family. Her father spoiled her from the beginning. All she had to do was ask, and he gave her everything she wanted. Growing up, she felt a deeper attachment to her father than her mother, and though she did love them both, it was her father’s presence that she sought after more frequently. She loved to be near him, even if he was busy and couldn’t give her all his attention, and one of her most common requests of him was to tell her stories, preferably adventures and fairy tales. It didn’t matter to her if he told her the same story more than once as long as she was allowed to sit next to him. She always felt safe and loved whenever he was around, and whenever she suffered a nightmare or fell and scraped herself up, he was the first one she ran to.

History cont'd: She also loved her big sister, Alianna, unconditionally. She thought her sister was the prettiest girl in the world, and she liked to try on her sister’s clothes and tag along with her when she was allowed. Sometimes, she sensed her sister was annoyed at something she said or did, so she tried not to repeat whatever it was because she wanted to keep the peace and make her sister happy. Alianna was the person she admired most, so she tried to do everything she could to make her sister smile.
Izzy was always in motion, always doing something, always going somewhere. Her parents put her in dance and music lessons, hoping they would provide an outlet for her endless energy. She fell in love with dance immediately, and it became her favorite activity. She practiced at every opportunity, and when that wasn’t enough, she sacrificed her other lessons in favor of dancing more. Dancing came to her almost as easy as breathing, and she learned quickly, picking up different styles of dance with ease. She tried joining a troupe when she was older but found that being part of a group was challenging. She liked total freedom when it came to her art, but she made several friends in the dance troupe and stuck it out for a year before deciding she only wanted to dance solo. Her experience with music was similar, though not as intense as her obsession with dancing. Through practice, she grew very skilled with multiple instruments, but again, she preferred to play solo or not at all. However, she didn’t mind making music with her friends if it was just for fun. It was only the heavily structured environment of dancing in a group or playing in an orchestra that stole the joy of dance and music from her.
She considered her cousin, Draven Delacroix, to be her best friend starting when they were children. Since they were the same age, they were often thrown together, much to Izzy’s delight. One of her many hobbies was to slip out of the clutches of her parents or chaperones and explore the city on her own, looking for any sort of adventure around every corner, and she would beg Draven to accompany her. It wasn’t very proper or ladylike of her to rub shoulders with the riff-raff, but the thrill of being on her own and knowing that if she got into trouble she’d have to rescue herself was intoxicating. As much as she loved her solo escapades, they were even more fun if she could convince Draven to join her. He turned her down a lot of the time, but that never bothered her. She would keep on inviting him with dogged persistence until he finally relented, and sometimes she tried to get his older brother, Elliot, to join them too.
Elliot Delacroix was like the older brother she always wanted. Anytime she was with Draven, she would go hunting for Elliot to tease and pester him. He might have thought she was an annoying twerp for that, but she never dwelled on what he might or mightn’t think of her. She just enjoyed trying to make him laugh, the same way she did with all her friends. One of her favorite ways to attempt this was to compose silly, little tunes and come up with a few weird or goofy verses and surprise him by randomly performing them whenever she thought he would least expect it. However, they drifted apart as he grew older and made his own friends. When she would go to visit Draven, she stopped seeing him around after a while, and the few times she did bump into him, he seemed more distant than she remembered. It stung, so she did what she always did: found an adventure, preferably one with a little danger, and then found something to laugh about.
Her parents had brought her along to social events for the city’s elite since she was a girl, and most people she met succumbed to her whimsical charms. She made friends easily as she grew older, drawing people in effortlessly with her smile and carefree disposition. Before too long, she’d become a prominent socialite, the highlight of every party and social event she attended with her innate ability to liven up any moment (no matter how dull or ordinary) and her natural talent for performing.
While she loved to bask in the glitzy lifestyle her lineage afforded her, she never lost her unquenchable thirst for adventure as she matured. She loved to slip out of her room at night and roam the city until she could barely keep her eyes open, and sometimes she would meet up with her likeminded friends and skulk about in the shadows after midnight. They called this secret club Phantasmagoria, and after her family, they were Izzy’s closest friends. On occasion, she even ventured into Asterath to see the city for herself. She fell in love with the colors and lights there, and when she went by herself, she liked to watch for new styles of dance or different types of music to learn.
Being the daughter of an old, noble bloodline, she was used to other nobles and young men from wealthy backgrounds trying to catch her attention, not to mention all the mothers who attempted to introduce her to their sons. She was never interested in any long-term, romantic commitments, but she entertained the occasional, casual fling if she met someone intriguing enough. However, in the end she always grew bored and restless and ended things before they could become serious. Her friends in Phantasmagoria liked to place wagers on how long she’d suffer a suitor’s attentions before breaking things off as her indifferent attitude towards romance was so widely known.
Her parents enrolled her in Cogworks to finish her education, but she hated sitting through the lectures and using her time to study. Very few of her classes interested her, and she had a difficult time forcing herself to complete her assignments. She was an average student during her time there, and that was probably largely due to her close friendship with Draven. He was the only one who could convince her to study and do the work necessary to pass her classes. Without him, she probably would have failed out of the school. She possessed the capability to do exceedingly well there, but she had no interest in distinguishing herself academically.
When her sister disappeared, it was one of the saddest days of Izzy’s life. She had no idea what could have happened to her, and she always hoped that someday Alianna would return. They may not have had a lot in common, but she loved her sister more than anything. When she was out and about in the city, whether during the day with her friends or at night with Phantasmagoria, she kept her eyes peeled for any sign of Alianna, hoping that her sister would simply appear and all would return to how it was. As time went by, she began to accept that her sister might not be coming back, for whatever reason, but she still hoped that they might be reunited someday.
News of the shadowfog moving towards Voxthain reached Izzy’s ears like everyone else, but so far she’s paid it little mind. It all sounds like a problem someone else will have to solve. Surely there must be a way to get rid of it, and she’s not about to let some dark, overly dramatic, magic-consuming fog of death impede on her fun. The whole thing just sounds too gothic to have much appeal to her. Its only redeeming factor in her eyes is that it’s something new and different, but if she wants to do or see something novel, there are easier ways to accomplish that than bothering with the shadowfog.
Other: Secretly hoping she doesn’t end up inheriting the family title.
She organizes a lot of music and dance related events for the community. She likes to teach dance classes periodically for the fun of it, and in addition to concerts and recitals, she puts on a few open mic, type shows a year where anyone is welcome to showcase their skills. Art is an obsession for her, and she’s put in the work to form connections all over the art scene, including in Asterath. If anyone is ever in need of a musician, dancer, painter, sculptor, etc. she’s the one to ask.

Artemisia is reserved/shy around people she doesn't know well and prefers the company of a few; she has never been one to like to be popular. While Artemis appreciates her father cares, and is quite spoiled, she doesn't like high society and has never felt comfortable in it. Even some of her own servants are not very kind, as she is the daughter of one. Nobility know eadric womanizes and feels awful for Artemisia, and she hates it, but what can she do about it?
Part of her feels as if she's in a pressure cooker, as if one more critique from her aunt, or nobles, or a strict tutor when she was younger will break her, send her into tears. She was pressured to be perfect, and wanted to be, to not be teased, but Artemisia never felt as ready for that, and felt as if, on the inside, she was breaking.
On the outside, around her parents, she tries to be good and perfect, wearing whatever her father wants her to and appearing as elegant and rich as she can, but has insecurity about herself as a noble. Her mother thinks she herself will social climb via her daughter. Artemis feels as if nothing she will do will ever be good enough for her parents. The judgements keep coming, and her father can't even reach out. When she tries to talk to him, he stammers some excuse and leaves. But he always sends an expensive present to her door, as if that will suffice. Avana longs for a close relationship with her parents, but is afraid to slip up around them, to admit she wants something else for her life, to be herself.
So she's learned to bite her tongue, but she's angry. Artemisia is thus also insecure about her status, and she has found she is less shy and reserved around the citizens. She has become friends with some of the people serving at the estate, some in Cosgworks, and the daughter of the cook behind her father's back--and likes how they all see her as a normal person. Sure, they're afraid of her position, which makes Artemisia realize she is privileged, but after they earn her trust, they see each other as people.
Beneath the veneer, Artemisia is headstrong. She's always self-conscious and shy around new people, but she adores the citizens, and wants what is best for everyone, even if she does harbor anger at her parents. Avana would never want them dead--she's not a dark person--but absolutely tell them off if she could. She wants to, but is afraid to raise her voice because she doesn't want to lose her family, even if she is mad at them. She's kind, always thanking servants and usually has a smile for people, even if exhausted. Artemisia does sneak out a lot, hence her headstrong nature, because she likes to feel free, away from her title's expectations. She doesn't explore a ton--she's too scared to venture off the beaten path, or to Asterath--but she may take a trip to the meadow, and she goes to the city in disguise, as she wants to know the people more. Avana is aware of her father's classism, and wants to one day prove her worth to him by showing him she understands their trade and the Council.
Artemisia is intelligent. If she got her way, she'd remain hidden by books and become a professor at Cogsworks. Books are her friends, but not in the way many see it--fiction is great, but Artemisia likes history, science, and languages. She hates violence, war, and bloodshed, and tries not to be naive about things.
Overall, she's quiet around high society, but is also relatively energetic around friends, like the cook's daughter--her first crush after she got close to her. With these people, as her true self, she can laugh a lot, speak her mind more. She doesn't like to sit still unless she's studying--no knitting, no music, no painting. But reading and writing, yes. She knows how to expertly wield a pistol, and likes the feeling of freedom when she sneaks out to ride her horse and shoot.
She knows how to be diplomatic, hold in frustration, but its getting harder to keep it all together the more pressure her parents and nobility place on her, the more Eadric annoys her with his negligence. She's not vain, despite always looking put together. Her father's orders. Artemis's not short-tempered, but hates injustice, and so she's working on her courage to stand up to Eadric for herself, her siblings if need be, and the citizens he dislikes. Artemisia is generally patient, but its getting worn so thin.
She gets excited about sharing her intelligence with people she trusts, and can get talkative about it. And she likes helping out around the city because she wants the feeling of working hard, getting to know people. Her mother was a commoner, so she wants to never lose sight of that as much as her father pressures her to. She has started to help out in the kitchen and cook things when nobody knows she does it. So, in short: new people make her nervous, it takes her awhile to open up, but she is usually polite, even though she has thoughts and opinions and wants to be better. But when she does know someone, she comes to life, and likes to chat with people and smile, make their days. She often is found giving flowers to staff and people who look sad at Cogsworks because she likes it when people smile. She's a perfectionist, and everything she does has to be just right, or she beats herself up and believes she'll never truly be worthy of her parents' love, and it hurts because she wants a closer family. Genuine parents who love her, and she doesn't know if hers do.
She is also afraid of snapping. She may be cheerful when excited about something and around the right people, but Artemisia is worried the lack of love will end up with her anger snapping, that she has darkness inside. She's very morose person when she's alone sometimes, and overthinks a lot of things and events and words people have said. She feels trapped. When people bother her when she's wanting to be alone in her room, or when she's in a mood from her parents, she may snap at people.
When someone insults her intelligence, she will fight you so long as its an intellectual discussion. She enjoys academic banter and discourse, but hates being perceived as stupid or intellectually naive. She is capable of standing up for herself in an academic environment, but that's...kind of it. She wants to get better at defending people.![]()

Artemisia stands at 5' 2". She is thin with delicate bone structure, pale skin. She has blue eyes and long blonde hair. It's wavier, borderline curly. She has a birthmark on her right shoulder. The noble keeps her nails short, hates fingernail polish, but will be found painting her toenails.Artemisia was born the youngest of the Calico children, to Eadric and a servant he had an affair with while drunk on an anniversary of his sister's death. The servant was hoping she would get moved to being some sort of noble from this, so she was thrilled, but it turned out she didn't. Her daughter did, to avoid a scandal, but Eadric does pay her more items to trade and promised to keep her employed and have a better job, so she is happy with the arrangement.
But Eadric knew he had screwed up, and he was cagey around Artemis her whole life. He loves her, but doesn't know how to be a good father, and pressures her into ignoring the commoner half of her blood to the point of her anxiety heightening and the pressure on to be perfect. Her mother, too, wants her to succeed, mainly to help her out, and Avana has always dealt with so much of the stress from both parents, who she can never even see together. Her eldest sister, Alianna, is jealous of her beauty and hates she's half-commoner, and she avoided her like a plague, knowing this, and was relieved when she ran off without a trace. She's felt safer since then, as once Alianna burned her face out of spite and threatened her if she told anyone.
Still, while she feels so much pressure, she has always had top marks at Cogsworks, and the desire to make her father notice her with her intelligence, to maybe one day make a good Councilor and be worthy of him, even if she is part commoner. She feels he doesn't love the real her, and hates this part of him. As she gets older, she feels more anxiety, like she can't breathe, about to crack, under the pressure from the staff and her parents.
She began wandering into Voxthain in secret, and around the city, to feel a sense of freedom and get to know the people she is half part of. She adores them, often helps around the city in disguise when she can, in charities and such, and is friends with some staff her age, like the stable boy who taught her to shoot, and her friend in the kitchens. The estate is a gilded cage and she began to believe classism is wrong. Now, she wants to make changes, and is passionate about bettering Voxthain.
She has always been one of the smartest in her class at Cogsworks, and takes pride in her work to the point of anxiety and perfectionism. When she was twelve, she realized she wanted to be a professor, but that her parents would hate that, so she's kept it to herself so far. A lot of her real life has stayed hidden, including the horrors she saw once on an excursion: the shadowfog by the woods. She's deathly afraid of it, watched it kill an animal, and left in tears. She tries to be friendly to her siblings, but is afraid they hate her.Magic: transmutation

Alex is reckless, impulsive, and has a bit of a violent streak. Not that he would necessarily want to actually hurt anyone - well, maybe he would, under the right circumstances. He’s also smart, having gotten excellent grades during all of his time at Cogworks, and is a strong magic user, as well as being good at science. He's essentially a genius, but he might also be slightly insane... He’s very protective of his friends, and anyone who ever dared to be a jerk to any of them ended up on the losing side of a fight. He also has a tendency to hold grudges, as well as an inclination for revenge, and has a lot of bitterness toward both of his parents. A part of him is very rebellious, and doesn’t give a damn what anyone says, but he also knows the power of appearing innocent, something he is ridiculously good at doing. He could be bullying someone, or even cooking up a literal explosive, one minute, but as soon as a parent or teacher showed up, he would appear to be the sweetest boy. He can always tell when something is wrong with his friends, and does his best to help, even if he is an absolute mess himself. To be fair, he’s a lot better at fixing other people’s problems than his own.

Alex's face has always been one of his best disguises. It's far too easy for him to appear innocent, or even childish. He has brown hair, which is generally a bit messy, and brown eyes, and stands at about 5"9"
Alex does wear the more elegant, posh clothing common among the nobility at galas and such, but prefers denim and leather, sneakers, hoodies.Alex was born out of wedlock to Eadric Calico and the Leclaire heir, who had been having an affair off and on for years. They managed to avoid a scandal by pretending that he was Eadric’s child with his wife, Elara, who was also the mother’s younger sister.
Growing up, Alex and his “twin” sister, Isley, were close with their cousins, Elliot and Draven Delacroix. As they got older, Elliot drifted out of the picture, spending time with his own friends, but the other three remained close. Alex and Isley were a chaotic force, often dragging Draven along with them. At Cogworks, they also spent a lot of time with Melody Seavey. Alex, Draven, and Melody, all coming from classist families, often bullied the commoner kids. Alex saw this as just the way things were supposed to be done. He also liked feeling some modicum of control. Alex’s oldest sister, Alianna always egged him on, both when it came to bullying, and his talent for creating explosives.
When Alex and Isley were thirteen, Alianna left, leaving behind no clue of where she had gone. After realizing that she seemed to have no intention of returning, Eadric named Isley as the heir, bypassing Alex, the older “twin.” Alex had always been sure that his father loved him, although he had sometimes wondered why he showered Alianna and Isley with affection so much more. Still, he never would have expected this. It hurt. He felt unwanted and even began to question whether his father even loved him at all.
Alex found out the truth about his birth, as well as the identity of his biological mother when he was fourteen. He was angry at her for abandoning him, as well as at his father, for never telling him the truth. The one good thing to come from this revelation was that Alex grew somewhat closer to his youngest sister, Artemisia, who was also illegitimate. After knowing the truth, seeing his mother always felt like torture. He always wondered what she would do if he approached her but was never willing to. Until one day, at the age of sixteen, he did, during a gala. She didn’t seem to have any interest in him, and although Alex had told himself to expect this, it still hurt much more than he had thought it would. His bitterness toward both of his parents had already been growing since he had learned the truth, but after that, he began to truly hate his mother. Or, well, maybe there was still desperation for love mixed in there, but he would never admit as much, even to himself.
Alex graduated Cogworks with highest honors, and since has been kinda… freefalling. He has no idea what he wants to do with his life. And with more free time on his hands, he’s been getting into more trouble than ever. Although the innocent act has still been holding up. For now.Abjuration:

Alex and Isley might not actually be twins, but growing up, that's what they believed, and while they may now know the truth, they still are twins. Chaotic twins. They sneak out together a lot, and Isley likes to help Alex with his explosives.

As cousins, Alex and Draven grew up together, and in a lot of ways, are more like brothers. The two of them and Isely are practically inseparable, although since graduation they haven't had quite as much time to spend together. Well, Draven hasn't, at least. Alex still likes to hang out with him whenever possible.
stepmother/aunt- Elara Calico - Calico Matriarch - @aelin
Alex is closer to his stepmother than he is with his father. Until he was fourteen, he thought she was his biological mother and was angry to learn that she wasn't. He was upset with her, at first, because he was upset with everyone who had kept the truth from him. He also feared that maybe her kindness throughout the years may have just been an act. However, eventually, he realized that she really did care about him. He still considers her his mother, he only wishes that she were biologically.

Alex and Artimisia didn't use to be close, and she's always been a bit wary around him. However, after he learned the truth, he found himself bonding with her a bit. ⠀⠀25⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀female⠀⠀⠀ voxthain⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀hacker⠀⠀⠀ bi⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀multiple types
Harlow is intelligent and a focused person who takes what she does seriously. She doesn’t talk a lot simply because she doesn’t always have a lot to say. She’s on the quiet side, preferring to watch people have fun than join in herself, though she’d never say no to some cards and one drink, though often she chooses non-alcoholic options.
Harlow is a skilled magical hacker, good with communications and stopping spells and wards of other magic casters with silence in the school of illusion, and creating her own wards or dispelling magic of others through abjuration. She is not so much an engineer, nor a scientist, but getting through peoples' personal messages if she has to, as well as any mass magical communication, has her hacking skills on point. She’s a skilled enough fighter, but her strengths are more with magic used to dispel other peoples', or throw up her own wards or illusions. But, as she has a knowledge of inventions and some magical technology (tinkering around with metals and magic and such), she is able to dismantle and fix things and some magical machines with ease.
She’s a little traumatized from growing up under Serpentine for fourteen years, a place she once believed to have given her everything, though she’s done her best to try and make the world better for people once she discovered the pain Serpentine caused Asterath and Voxthain thanks to her mother.
Harlow, despite not talking a lot, nevertheless likes to spend time with people she cares about. She’s patient despite having a quiet rage inside her that longs for vengeance against people who have wronged her family, but she doesn’t like being the center of attention and won’t volunteer to lead things, as she’s not the best in a team. This said, Harlow is also a more open-minded person who accepts people for who they are, and she has a big heart, something she somehow shares with her older brother, who despite not growing up around him, she’s come to be very close to.
So, she’s not shy, but she’s not exactly outgoing. Harlow is a quietly strong person, willing to do what’s right for her even if other people dislike it, even if it means getting in on others' business. On occasion, however, she lets pop this sarcasm and dry sense of humor, and she's also scarily observant and has patience to last for days.
Harlow is not a bad person, she doesn't want to harm people, but sometimes, for the militia, she does things that could be considered morally wrong, but she does it to keep people safe. She lived long enough under someone else's thumb and refuses to go through that ever again.![]()

![]()
Harlow was born to a Hayden militia soldier and a man she met one night on leave in Asterath, someone who, Harlow later found out, was a highly ranked member of Club Serpentine. Harlow's birth was an accident, and her mother, unable to raise a child and balance her job, as well as horrified when she found out the man was Serpentine, gave Harlow up for adoption in Voxthain. She was adopted by a regular commoner family--a journalist and an engineer--but when Harlow was only about a year old, her Serpentine father snuck into the home in the middle of the night, silently killed her kind-hearted adopted family, and kidnapped her, as well as kidnapped her mother.
He saw potential in her, someone to manipulate and do what Serpentine wanted, as he already had a son about three years old who already showed signs of being too soft-hearted to the gang, and so he wanted a child who actually did what he wanted, someone malleable. Besides, he had kept tabs on her mother, and he was furious she had never told him she was having a child. So, in revenge as well, he stole her.
Harlow thus grew up under his thumb, learning how to fight and kill, only permitted to see her captive mother when she did well. She was taught Serpentine was correct, had saved her from Voxthain's uppity-ness. It never quite clicked in Harlow’s head, though, but she didn’t want to be hurt so she accepted this anyway, as if she was in a fog that itched at the back of her head. The other thing was, Harlow never understood that she had a half-brother. Andrew Westlake was just another kid in Serpentine who seemed to not want to be there, and Harlow mostly kept to herself anyway. She also was unaware of the true nature of what the gang did--she was told they helped give people medication they needed (drugs), and kept the peace (assassinations). She worked mostly backend, as Harlow showed an early, quite genius, skill for magic from a young age.
Serpentine saw a golden goose in her, and Cogsworks noticed her skills with illusion, transmutation, and abjuration early on and worked to help her become better and stronger. But it was also in Cogsworks that she learned overtime that Serpentine was feared and that they were deadly assassins. She was twelve when she realized how terrible this was, thirteen when she was in distraught about it after she pieced together one morning that her father had been killed by members of their own gang, and fourteen when her mother had a conversation with her on a rare visit one day. Harlow used some of her magic to interrupt some of Serpentine's private messages, and she saw the truth of what they were doing--what she had helped with from running backend assignments, breaking spells, breaking wards, hacking communications and stalling machinery.
When she was fifteen and had bided her time for a year, her father had her go out on a mission to recruit more people. She finally saw it as her chance to escape, and so, Harlow and her mother used their combined magic skills and fled, unaware her half brother had escaped a few years prior. Her abilities to silence everyone else's magic around them, and her illusion and her mother's militia training helped them get away.
They moved to Voxthain, where her mother joined the militia again, but Harlow was having none of it. She was enraged at being manipulated by Serpentine her whole life, so she went rogue, back down in Asterath to use her magic and her hacking skills to take out more members of their gang. She'd interrupt messages, wait around corners, jump people, anything to keep them from hurting more people. It was in one of these messages she realized the stunning truth she had a half brother, Andrew, and that he was just graduating Cogsworks, which Harlow dropped out of for her safety.
But, while she continued helping people–stealing for them if she had to, giving all she could–she needed a way to cope with her guilt and grief, and the mess her life was, so she turned to alcohol. It became a huge problem, and she was addicted sooner than later, ending up with her anger forthright, spewing at people who she had once tried to help. And, because Serpentine was looking for her, she couldn’t be checked in to a hospital or rehab center, and people who had cared about her pushed her away because they didn’t like the more mean turn she took.
Her mother tried to help, but they had spent years on and off together, and she didn't know how to help her. Harlow would come back home late, smelling of beer, exhausted, sometimes bloody, and her mom got worried. In one of these drunken states, however, at seventeen, she on a whim decided to meet her half-brother, who lived in a nicer house in Astertah, and was not just a teacher now, but a baker and painter. She didn't know what came over her, but she showed up on his doorstep one morning, startling him.
But after a rocky start, it actually turned out to be the best choice she could have made. Someone else had had to put up with Serpentine's lies and their shitty father, someone else had gotten away, and he helped her through actually finding a way to stage a false death and then re-join Cogsworks when she was sober and actually in rehab after Serpentine gave up finding her. At least for now.
Eventually, over the past few years, they have become close, and Harlow's mother has taken to Andrew as well, albeit at first grudgingly, and is like a mother to both. Sometimes, Harlow joins him, when her guilt is too bad to handle, in his volunteer efforts to keep Asterath healthier and safer. But she still lives with a lingering guilt and occasional self-hatred despite help from her mom, a therapist, and Andrew, and sometimes had a hard time dealing with everything. She also caved and joined the militia, offering Commander Hayden anything she could about Serpentine, as the gang had connections to the family via the commander's late husband.
Harlow now works backend for the militia, to intercept and hack transmissions and private messages if need be/if there's a security risk to the people of Voxthain, especially if anyone is collaborating with Serpentine, to make some machinery and tinker around. She's like a communications-type person, but also goes on jobs/missions for the militia where she'll linger back and quietly interrupt the enemies' fighting and their spells, as well as hack their ward magically with her skills.

Kavan is someone who is genuinely kind and wants to meet people, to have friends. However, he isn't the best at going about it, and tends to always second-guess himself when speaking to other people, and always worries they're judging him. He can attach himself to people easily if he sees something he likes in them, and can be a little energetic and eccentric, and often this can alienate some people from wanting to be friends with him, but all he wants is someone to talk with, someone who understands his interests. He's on the autism spectrum, so it's hard for him to at times remain eye contact with people, and always second guesses everything, and he's often a little socially anxious atop of this despite always being the first one to volunteer to help people, to go the extra mile. He hates being lonely, but does prefer to speak to people one-on-one, and the way he eases his anxiety is through his profession as a ballet dancer in Voxthain. It's the one time being in front of a crowd doesn't scare him, but he won't be one to talk with audience members after and likes to go and scamper on home. So, he's an introverted extravert, and if he had the right people, his energetic side would come out. But he dislikes larger crowds, and class he's learned to be quiet and focus. He is quite organized, though, but he does struggle with sensory issues--too much and too strong sound and light can put Kavan over the edge, and he will hide away if this gets to be the case.
Despite this, he's quite a rule-following person, and dislikes it when there's a situation and someone breaks a law or a rule. Kavan doesn't like it when people are hurt, and he'll try and help, but more often than not he'll make it worse, tending to hover and try and be useful despite having zero medical knowledge whatsoever. But he genuinely likes people, despite not always having the best tract record when it comes to making and keeping friends. So he can be seen as shy, but it's really that he feels insecure at times because people have isolated him in Voxthain, and so Kavan doesn't often go up to people on a whim anymore, preferring now to keep to himself and listen to music or write songs, despite wishing he had a friend or two. He dislikes the nobles, but adores performing for people and making audiences happy.
Kavan is graceful, and he doesn't often trip or fall into things, easily able to maneuver through large crowds. He is a skilled dancer, but he's also very sensitive and insecure in who he is after so many people growing up have told him he is weird or different. Still, he tries not to let it all get the best of him, but some days it's easier than others. Kavan struggled in Cosgworks, and is not academically inclined, and he did best in art and music classes, something artistic. He cannot understand science, mathematics, or magic of any type very well, and often cannot sit still long enough to even read a ton. He only focuses more when dancing, and on the side, he composes music as well and plays the violin. Kavan also is an indoors person, and doesn't do well with outdoor activities like hiking and running.
He has an outstanding attention to detail, but he can be a little anxious from time to time as well, often seeing the world in a different way than some people do. Kavan, around the right people then, is bright and energetic, showing them the cool music composition he does and choreography, as well as feels comfortable wearing the brightly colored clothes he likes to wear, but this rare, and he still feels a little silly and insecure when he talks to the right people at times. Kavan is also someone who is a little afraid to be totally independent and live on his own right now--his family has his whole heart, for one thing, and he is afraid of meeting people and being judged, for another, despite wanting friends.![]()
![]()
Kavan stands at about 5' 10". He is lanky but lean, and pretty strong as well. He has warm brown eyes, golden-tanned skin, and dark brown-black wavy hair. He prefers brighter-colored clothes and anything comfortable.
Kavan was born to two loving parents. One was a journalist and one a member of a band. Both adored one another and adored him and his eventual younger brother, and he grew up knowing how much he was cared about. They were well-enough off, more middling class, and so Kavan's struggles began at Cogsworks, when not only did the nobility have it out for him because he was a commoner, but also because he struggled academically.
He got help from teachers through the years, and passed his english, art, conjuration, and music classes, but math and science and any other form of magic had his head spinning. Kavan spent many nights in tears over homework he didn't understand, and it was a huge struggle to even pass those classes with help. He was bullied for being considered "not smart", and "different", as he was always eager about wanting to speak to people about his interests, which early on were music and dance. But he was bullied for his other lack of social skills, and Kavan early on found a difficulty in speaking to people, in maintaining eye contact, and in knowing what to say to carry on conversations. His one friend he had made ditched him when it became clear he'd get bullied for hanging out with him, leaving him more insecure than before. Nobody likes Kavan because he always called people out when they cheated on tests; failed magic class time and again; always asked questions about math and science that everyone else understood; because he was unsure how to make conversation; because he overthought everything with a strong streak of autistic-induced perfectionism; and because he was a ballet dancer. Kavan was never the best at emotional regulation, either.
Suffice to say, he was very relieved when graduation came. The only things that got him through his years at Cogsworks were his loving parents, who helped him as much as they could, as well as music and ballet. Ballet especially; his parents took him and his brother to a show when they were little, and Kavan was hooked. He wanted to try it, and he adored it when enrolled in classes. He found a new confidence, and realized all his anxiety over people and his worries he was not smart vanished when he was dancing. He was good at this, felt free, and the exercise was good for him. Quickly, he moved up through the ranks, and became a ballet trainee for a Voxthain company when he was sixteen. At eighteen, after graduating Cogsworks. Kavan continued to focus on ballet, and gained a position as a Company member when he was twenty. For two years now, he's a professional ballet dancer, and he wants to one day make a Principal dancer.
While this helps his confidence and anxiety, not all of it goes away, and being different and being made fun of for it at school stuck with him, especially because he still struggled to find friends at the ballet company. They always saw him as quiet, which he was because he had drawn into himself, afraid to be a little more cheerful around some people after how that ended at school, and sometimes, when he does get eager into conversations, he overthinks it, stumbles over his words, and retreats into himself, always fearing people hate him. He knows some ballet members do dislike him, as they find him a little too clingy sometimes--in moments when he gets very lonely he does try and reach out to some people--and he just wishes he had true friends despite always trying to be nice to people. Maybe one day, that will get him somewhere. He's just usually insecure, and only lights up and shows his more eccentric and energetic side around his parents and brother, who love him.
Around them, Kavan is brighter--he adores bright colors, all the time, and composing music and dances that have some people questioning what goes on in his head. And around them, while he may not talk a lot a lot, he engages in conversation easier and always wants to be a part of the family discussions. He also still lives at home because his family accepts him and the way he sees the world, and because he does have some anxiety about living away from them and having total independence at the moment.

While she's not the shortest person, she's not tall either, standing at 5'4". Her dress style usually consists of dresses, skirts, sandals, high heels, and boots.

Personality: Venus is a hard worker and dedicated to her job as a councilor. She is kind, compassionate, and genuinely cares for Voxthian and its people. She is honest, and hates being lied to. She would rather know the truth than have it sugarcoated for her. Although she's optimistic, Venus knows when to be realistic, and is aware that not everything in the world is good. She is intelligent, calm, collected, and can handle stressful situations with relative ease. Venus can be quiet and shy around others, but is always willing to put that aside to work with her fellow councilors. Overall, Venus uses her best judgement to decide what would be beneficial for the Voxthian people.
______________________
History: Venus was born into a well-off Voxthain family. Her father is an engineer and her mother was a former councilor for the city. Her parents were strict, wanting Venus and her sister Sera to work hard and have successful lives. Despite their strict nature, Venus' parents were kind and generous, which she loved and respected, especially her mother.
Her mother was her biggest influence while she was growing up and was like a role model to Venus. She admired her hard work and dedication to her job and loved how her mother cared so deeply for the Voxthian people. She taught her to be moral, compassionate, respectful, honest, and always do the right thing, which Venus has instilled in herself to this day.
Like most children, Venus started attending Cogworks when she was five years old. While there, she focused mainly on abjuration and conjuration magic. Although she struggled with her magic at first, Venus proved to be a quick learner once she got the hang of it. She loved her time at Cogworks, and made friends with some of her classmates and other students. Venus graduated from Cogworks at eighteen, excited to start a new chapter in life and focus on the future.
After graduation, Venus worked in a tailor shop for a few years to earn some money. She learned how to sew and make clothes, which she enjoyed. While she was happy at her job, she wanted something more exciting n her life. Inspired by her mother, Venus wanted to be just like her. After working at the tailor shop for four years, she left her job, a risk she was willing to take.
And that risk paid off. When she was twenty-three, Venus was elected as a councilor, much to her surprise and joy. She dreamed of this moment ever since she graduated from Cogsworks, and was proud to be in her mother's footsteps. One of Venus' top priorities since becoming councilor was the shadowfog, She has done extensive research on what she could find out about it for several years, hoping to help her fellow councilors come up with a solution to stop it so no one else would die and suffer the agonizing pain it caused those who were affected by it.

elara is a literal dove. soft, gentle and loving, she is prepared to give anyone a second chance (except her sister elissa) and when she loves, she loves very very deeply. she forgives everyone who sins against her (except her sister) and despite coming from a classist family and being part of a classist family, she treats everyone equally who deserves to be treated equally. despite eadric being eadric, she still loves her husband deeply and would take a bullet for him, if she had to. elara is the definition of an overprotective but loving mother and would go to the ends of the earth for her children - and the two that aren’t hers as well. she is the type of person that is incredibly easy to manipulate, but no one wants to because of how pure and loyal she is.

elara was born the second eldest daughter to two powerful nobles. from birth, she was gentle and well-behaved, and never really cried unlike her elder sister elissa. she was everything elissa was not, and the two grew up polar opposites despite only being four years apart in age. elissa had always been set to inherit the leclaire title and lands, and she knew it. she often exploited this power over her younger sister, but while elissa had their father’s love, elara had their mother’s. she was very similar to her mother, and spent lots of time with her.
elara kept her mother company throughout her childhood. she had no interest in learning how the power game worked, instead focusing on the gentler and more ‘womanly’ arts of crocheting, embroidering and cooking. her mother’s health wasn’t at its best, and she kept having miscarriage after miscarriage, but elara stayed with her and comforted her when even her own lord husband wouldn’t. finally, when elara was fifteen, her mother managed to give birth to another daughter, her little sister lysa.
due to her mother’s health still being a concern, elara took to tending to lysa herself. she learnt the arts of child-rearing from her mother and she doted on her little sister. lysa was cute, funny and gentle, just like elara herself and her mother. she cared for lysa, and is still closest to lysa out of her sisters.
five years after lysa’s birth, their mother gave birth to her final child, lyanna. however, this claimed her life, and lyanna was a sickly child from birth. elara mourned day and night for her mother, who was also her role model. her mother had remained strong despite everything and elara just didn’t know why this had happened. she raised lyanna like her own child (elara’s twenty by now) and it was around this time she met eadric calico.
she fell instantly in love with this handsome noble, and accepted his proposal eagerly. despite his being three years older than her, elara genuinely loved him. he was kind to her and was everything a husband should be. but just days after marrying eadric, the leclaire estate went up in flames. elissa had been out of the house, and little lyanna living with elara at the calico estate, but her father and lysa had still been at home. her father had gotten away unscathed, but he was found in bed with another man, and elara was deeply hurt to know this. it was bad enough that he had been unfaithful, even with her poor mother dead, but with a man especially when knowing that his former wife had been homophobic? elara was shocked and disappointed in him, and she never spoke to him again. meanwhile, lysa had nearly died in the fire, and had to get mechanical replacements so she might have a chance of staying alive. her sister was never the same.
about two years later, alianna came around - named after elara’s mother eliana. but it was around this time elissa started behaving weirdly. she had never liked elara, but now elissa was sizing up her husband, and elara knew exactly what had happened when elissa wound up pregnant. elara was more angry at elissa than eadric, and vowed to never speak to her again. she raised the child - alex - as one of her own, but didn’t stop loving eadric, even after all that.
years passed by, and when elara was thirty-eight, she received news that lyanna had died at cogworks. the girl had gone by anna and ditched her surname in hope of being ‘normal’, but had been manipulated and toyed with nonetheless. all she had when she committed suicide was her best friend - lorelei delacroix. through mourning for lyanna together, lorelei and elara became good friends, and elara is one of the only people who knows the woman underneath lorelei’s mask. lorelei, in turn, has a soft spot for elara and sees elara as one of the only true and purely good souls on lux, and respects and loves her for it.
when alianna ran away some years later, elara was shocked. she had just received news of her father’s death, and had no idea why her eldest would run away. she had always been headstrong, and had suffered a defeat when running for councillor, but running away had not been on elara’s list of expectations. after losing a child, she is a lot more self-conscious now and takes extra care with her children. she still has eadric to rely on, and despite all they’ve been through, she still loves him as much as she did twenty years ago. she has learnt to be strong and finally learnt to cope with alianna’s disappearance.
YES I AM SO SORRY I THOUGHT THIS WAS ALL CHATTER OVER AN ALREADY-APPROVED CHARACTER <\3 YES SHE IS ELARA IS AN ANGEL

⠀ 16⠀⠀⠀male⠀⠀ ⠀ voxthain ⠀⠀⠀⠀noble⠀⠀⠀ bisexual⠀⠀⠀abjuration/conjuration⠀ ⠀
Julien is graceful and poised. He's on the quieter side, but not shy. He is observant and a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, and is the one to always abide by the laws and the rules, but he also has a semi-strong moral compass. Admittedly, he is not someone who waltzes into adrenaline-inducing situations, and can be a bit scared at times of putting himself into instances where he or his family can be harmed. But he does know who he is, and he's very intelligent and confident in himself and what he does know. Julien wants to be a Councillor one day and help bring the Ellington name back out of obscurity, so he works towards doing what he can as well and trying to earn back the fortune. He respects Fae and all she does for the family, and wants to help best he can.
He can be kind-hearted, someone who wants the best for those he loves, but he can be cold when the situation depends on it--he often acts emotionless and believes that nobles and councillors cannot rule with too weak of a hand because then people will take them down, or fight them, but that they cannot be too overbearing, either. Julien can be a tad classist, but not that much--it's mainly he doesn't like to get dirty, with mud and such, and thinks the common areas need more cleaning up.
Many think he has a weaker constitution and weaker stomach, but he not someone who would vote for peace instead of war if war was needed. He's strong-minded, and understands sometimes, violence is the only way to end things. Julien doesn't show people what is on his mind much, and is very patient, because if people don't know what he thinks, they can't use his thoughts against him. He knows being a Councillor one day, as he aims to be, and a noble, is something that demands a strong mind, and he has worked to develop that despite going out of his way to help his sister and family.
He is a little vain, always wanting to look his best. Julien doesn't make jokes, but sometimes finds it entertaining when a friend does something dumb, even though he gets embarrassed when it is does at state functions. Julien has long held a no-nonsense approach to events, and he's gotten angry at Elliot Delacroix when he's pranked people at events before. He wants the Ellingtons to look good, as much as possible, to keep climbing back to the top, but he is soft-spoken, often, charming when he needs to be, but knows his limits and is unafraid to tell someone off for something he thinks is wrong. Can he thus be a tad pompous? Yes.
Despite his vanity, he likes to be artsy, and makes crafts to decorate the estate, while he is also efficient when wielding (insert type here) magic and two long knives/daggers as self-defense. He is not a romantic and is a bit frightened of marriage, the idea of being bound to someone. Julien doesn't experience romantic love often, only when she gets close to someone, and he doesn't do that often, or even strong platonic feelings like his sister has for Taz.
He is not usually quick to anger, but can flare up when somene insults his family or Fae.![]()
![]()
Julien stands at about 5' 7", so he's kind of on the taller side for his age, but shorter side for a lot of men when he gets older. He is thinner, with pale skin and lighter brown hair that he keeps kind of shaggy when he's alone, but pulls back and gels whenever he's in public. Julien always looks the best he can, and he wears clean clothes all the time, often preferring dresses in private, but will wear anything clean, soft, and befitting a noble. He has blue eyes and a smattering of freckles across a longer nose.Julien was born ten years after his older sister, Fae, to a mother who died right after his birth and a father who was largely absent and who had handed the Ellington fortune over to her. As such, Julien was raised by his sister, and she is the one person in his life he loves purely, and would do everything under the sun to try and protect, alongside their family name. He followed Fae everywhere when he was younger, looking up to her, and, when he learned more about the downfall of their family, respected and was in awe of. She had pulled them back on track, and he has never failed to feel as if he has to do his part, too.
Early on, Julien had a love for some academics, and as he grew he became obsessed with bringing their family's status and fortune back to where it once was, having learned about their history and what had gone wrong, the failings of his father and mother before him. He asked Fae all the time how he could help, while Julien began to one day gun for Council and get an Ellington back on a spot there. He respects Taz as well, as he learned it was her idea to unite the families, though sometimes his sister-in-law's more goofy behavior has him on edge and worried about the way she'll present her family--and his--to the nobles across Voxthain. He knows the Calicos, Delacroixs, and Seaveys are vipers, and so Julien has an aim to both become just like them, to become their equals again, and show no weakness. Even so, sometimes he does find her antics amusing.
Julien started Cogsworks with other kids his age, and he could feel the strain and pressure of being Fae's younger brother. Some kids disliked the way the Ellington-Wyvers had become one, while he found some nobles still saw his family as weak, despite their hold still on the water supply of the city. Julien began to focus more in classes, gearing himself towards politics, as per his desire to one day become a Councillor, while he is also happy to assist Fae in whatever she wants him to do to help the family. As most nobles, Julien formed a slightly-negative look towards commoners and regular citizens, and in his observation forays into the city--one had to be known to the people before getting elected, after all--Julien found the areas sometimes had him uneasy. He had grown into a bit of a vain character, and in a mad scramble to help his sister and his family, he begun to look his nose down on commoners, hate getting dirty, and study up more and more on laws and such, and as he had been raised around nobles. That said, he also tries to get along with his young niece, because he loves Fae, he just...tends to be a bit vain and view anyone not a noble as a little less than.
Julien also realized he was different than many people when he was only about ten. As a nobleman, he recognized many men were meant to marry women, but his sister had married her best friend, and they seemed happy. He was fine with that, open-minded in that sense, but he realized not only that it was hard for him to even find people he wanted to befriend, but he rarely felt romantically inclined towards anyone. On occasion, growing up, he would feel that way about select people, but it wasn't often. And what was more, Julien also found a certain comfort in femininity. He knew from galas and Cogsworks that this was something some of the nobles would pick fun at him for, but Julien is entirely confident in himself and likes his hair a little longer, painting his nails, and sometimes wearing a dress as he reads political science books and books on Voxthain's rules and history outside in the estate's gardens.
He long found himself to be driven towards three goals only: keep helping the family recover and be stronger, never speak to his father, who he is bitter towards, as he once tried to contact him but the man barely spoke to him, and remain loyal to Fae above all else, who he sometimes views as his mother-figure and his guardian. He has pushed himself immensely to become a leader one day, and to make the Ellington name stronger than it was before, even if that means he has to be a little judgmental and cold. Julien does not care all that much.
He finds some solace in hiking, reading, and he found a love of crafting as a kid, something he did for fun. Julien enjoys making jewelry and random decorations, which he places around the estate. At Cogsworks, he found a love and affinity for conjuration and abjuration magics, and he works those into his studies, while he also took a liking to self-defense using duel blades, finding a friend in Cogsworks who was gunning to be militia, and so he's been working on training with him when he has the time.
Julien also has always held bitterness at his father. His mother, learning of her, as well, but mostly his father, and he wants nothing to do with the man.Magic: abjuration and conjuration

Description: Aiden has pale skin and short, curly brown hair. His dark brown eyes are one of his most prominent features. He is of average height, standing at 5'5". He dresses like a typical noble, usually wearing formal shirts, pants, and shoes, and wears the typical colors of the Calico family. He sometimes dresses more casually in public, wearing t-shirts and jeans.
______________________
Personality: Aiden is shy, quiet, and tends to not talk much. He's not much of a sociable person, so he avoids talking to others unless it's absolutely necessary. Aiden is a kind and gentle person and cares about the people around him. He is independent and prefers to be by himself while doing anything, whether it be reading or something else. He works hard and is determined to achieve his goals. Aiden is intelligent, having demonstrated skills in math and science, subjects that he's shown great interest in. Despite everything that his family has been through, he loves and cares for them, even if he always doesn't show it.
______________________
History: Aiden was born into the Calico family, one of Voxthain's wealthiest noble families and is the only son of Eadric and Elara Calico. Being born into nobility, he experienced a life of luxury ever since he was child. Despite this, his life wasn't picture perfect like the public were lead to believe.
In all honesty, Aiden's family life was a mess. Eadric would frequently cheat on Elara, and he was angry at his father for this, although he never said anything to him about it. Two of these affairs resulted in an older half-brother, Alex, and a younger half-sister, Artemisia. Why his mother decided to stay with his father was beyond him. And while he does care for Alex and Artemisia, he hates that they're not his mother's children.
His father also preferred his sisters over him, which hurt Aiden and strained their relationship even more. He had nothing against his sisters, he just wished that his father didn't play favorites. Because of this, he spent more time with his mother and became closer to her. He always went to Elara for help or advice whenever he needed it and was grateful to have such a kind and loving mother.
He was enrolled in Cogworks as child, mainly focusing on his evocation and illusion magic. While he didn't like school that much, he works hard and does the best he can, as he doesn't want to disappoint his parents. Being born a noble, he made some enemies at Cogworks, but he learned to ignore them and continue on with school. He still attends the school to this day, waiting to graduate and leave.
When he was eleven years old, Aiden's sister Alianna ran for councilor, but Caledonia Hayden was elected instead. After Alianna's defeat to Caledonia, she ran away, shocking the whole family, including Aiden. He still thinks about her to this day, wondering where she could be. He's moved on though, accepting that Alianna may not return ever again.

NOTABLE MAGIC:
(view spoiler)
APPEARANCE
Kieran embodies duality in his very form—in noble gatherings, he presents immaculate composure with perfectly tailored attire that emphasizes his broad shoulders and regal bearing, while in Asterath's depths, he allows the subtle glow of illusion magic to illuminate his rich mahogany skin with shifting patterns that mesmerize and distract. His eyes are his most arresting feature, changing from warm amber to deep violet depending on which life he's living, framed by subtle laugh lines that betray a man who finds humor in the absurdity of his double existence. His left hand gleams with silver and clockwork artistry—an exquisite prosthetic adorned with illusion-enhancing runes that pulse with soft light when he channels power, occasionally making obscene gestures at particularly irritating nobles through what he insists is a “mechanical malfunction” he's in no hurry to repair.![]()

PERSONALITY
Kieran moves through Voxthain's nobility like a master performer, his charm and diplomatic finesse hiding razor-sharp observations behind a veneer of perfect Thorne respectability. In these moments, he is the consummate noble cousin—gracious, witty, and seemingly supportive of tradition—while silently calculating how to use each interaction to further his true purposes. When the masks come off in the neon-lit corners of Asterath, Kieran reveals himself as brilliantly subversive—a man who laughs at aristocratic pretension while wielding illusion magic with the precision of someone who understands that sometimes the greatest truths can only be revealed through deception.
His irreverence manifests in countless personal touches: pocket dimensions containing separate wardrobes for his dual identities, a shadow-touched crow familiar trained to steal small trinkets exclusively from corrupt nobles, and the practiced ability to appear perfectly composed at family functions despite spectacular hangovers from Asterath's magical concoctions the night before. Yet beneath the cynical exterior and caustic humor lies a man of surprising principle—his elaborate schemes to expose corruption are driven by genuine outrage at the exploitation of commoners and misuse of resources meant to heal, not adorn. He reserves rare moments of unguarded warmth for children, shadowfog survivors, and those suffering under systems they cannot fight alone, though he'd sooner let his malfunctioning hand make rude gestures at the entire Council than admit to the idealism that fuels his double life.HISTORY
Born into the traditional branch of House Thorne, Kieran was raised amid privilege and rigid expectations—the son of parents who viewed his aunt's marriage to a commoner healer as a betrayal of noble responsibility rather than a love worth celebrating. His childhood unfolded in marble halls and formal gardens where he was groomed to continue the family's healing legacy, though with an emphasis on administration rather than the “undignified” hands-on approach his aunt had embraced through her husband's influence.
Young Kieran showed appropriate aptitude for basic transmutation and healing magic, dutifully memorizing incantations and proper procedures while privately questioning the stark divisions between who received care and who provided it. The pivotal moment in his development came during his sixteenth year at a particularly insufferable family dinner when his father launched into a familiar tirade about “diluting noble bloodlines”—and something within Kieran snapped into perfect clarity. Without conscious intent, his untapped talent for illusion manifested spectacularly, conjuring a parade of increasingly absurd dragons that danced across the banquet table, helped themselves to the soup, and mimicked his father's pompous expressions to the horror of the assembled guests.
The punishment for this magical outburst was severe, but the revelation was transformative—Kieran discovered a power within himself that transcended traditional Thorne magic, one that could reveal truths his family would prefer to keep hidden. Outwardly repentant, he returned to his studies with newfound purpose, developing his illusion abilities in secret while maintaining the appearance of a dedicated healer-in-training.
The definitive break from dutiful son to shadow operative occurred during his medical apprenticeship when he uncovered widespread corruption at the intersection of noble houses: Calico jewelers repurposing healing crystals meant for pain management into exclusive accessories His attempts to address these issues through proper channels resulted in his swift reassignment to an isolated clinic—a clear message about the consequences of challenging the established order.
Rather than accept defeat, Kieran made a calculated decision to create a new path. Leveraging his noble education and family connections, he established a presence in Asterath while maintaining his respectable Thorne identity. The creation of “The Mirage Den”—ostensibly a trading post for secrets and favors—became the center of his operation, allowing him to gather intelligence and craft elaborate schemes that forced corrupt officials to either make restitution or face exposure. His family believes he divides his time between traditional healing studies and “meditative practices for spiritual alignment”—a convenient fiction that explains his frequent absences while he's actually fighting in Asterath's underground rings or orchestrating the downfall of particularly egregious noble schemes.
Now, as shadowfog encroaches on Voxthain's borders, Kieran finds his unconventional network and unique perspective positioned to uncover connections between the spreading threat and certain noble houses that conventional authorities might miss. His dual existence has prepared him to navigate the coming crisis in ways neither pure nobility nor pure rebellion could achieve alone—though whether he can maintain his precarious balance between worlds remains to be seen.

August is gentle, kind, good-hearted, and shy. He is sensitive and wants to do what he can to protect others, though this is a newer development. He is now chivalrous and gallant, willing to sacrifice for the greater good and his family. While he has a slight inferiority complex, he doesn’t make it obvious, and instead will try hard to be better for other people so nobody has to go through what he did, or more, what his sister did, and because he thinks he isn't worthy and needs to make up for his errors. But more than that, he shows this through striving hard to make his mother and sister proud of him, despite the fact on most days he knows they love him no matter what.
August is a gentle giant, and wants the best for people. He is a determined, hard worker and will push himself, giving more than 100 every time he can, and possesses politeness for days. August hates violence despite the fact he's in the militia.
However, over the past six years, he’s grown more confident. But, if one hurts his family, because August is a family man, he will hurt you. He adores his mother and sister, will die for and protect them despite the fact they are more then capable of protecting themselves, and strives to spend time with them every day. He's quite quiet, but a sunny smile and more cheer come out around his family. He's an over-worker and people-pleaser when it comes to his family. When August snaps, something is wrong, as he has a very mellow disposition otherwise. August is also not a flirt, but despite this, he's quite romantic when it comes to family--he has never once forgotten anyone's birthday and values time together, and checking in on them. He knows of his sister's Asterath ring ties and hates it, but knows she needs the release and checks in after.
He hates being in charge, and attention makes him uncomfortable, as does yelling. August is helpful, and wants to be there for others. That said, he is a pretty good leader and respected soldier, despite hating being in charge, though some hate him for the fact he's not of noble blood.
August’s strengths in the militia are strategy, and he’s cunning when it comes to that and magic, but is not scholarly gifted. He’s dyslexic. He struggles with some anxiety. Conflict and loud noises make him nervous, and he’s been learning value is no equivalent to bloodline, and to be stronger. Genuinely, he loves his family and regrets he was such a scared child, though sometimes fear still gets the best of him, but he’s fighting it.![]()
![]()
6 ft tall, August is pale with thick, longer black hair and warm brown eyes. He’s muscular as well.
August was born to a Spider and Voxthain heiress. When his mother's parents found out, they threw her out, so she lived in Asterath. When her husband was killed in a shoot-out, she went to Voxthain to plead with her parents to take her back. They refused, so she was on the streets, unable to keep her son. She dropped August, two, off an at orphanage.
Heartbroken, at five, he ran off to look for his mother. When he couldn't, he got lost, ending up on its outskirts and stealing apples from a garden of an estate. He woke up to a woman staring at him, but before he could explain, she held her hand out. He didn't know why, but he took it.
August was taken in by Lady Katarina Hayden, commander of the militia and a Councillor. He didn't know what it was, but he found he had faith in her, attracted to her kindness. In her, he gained a home, a mother, and a sister, and while at first he missed his birth mother, he began to see Katarina as his family and her first adopted child, Caledonia, as a sister. Katarina loved and wanted him and treated him well, and he became angry at his birth mother for leaving--to this day, he doesn't know why.
Caledonia was strong and determined. August looked up to her, trailing after her because he felt safe with her. He remembers meeting his adoptive father, the fear--he had never been so scared around someone. The way the man screamed at his daughter, wife, and August, had him shaking and hiding behind his sister. He was hit with a sickening jolt he was a burden, and found himself afraid to speak.
Cal explained he was a horrible person to be avoided, and that August was loved by her and their mother and was not a burden. He didn't know until later, but after the initial meeting, Cal struck a deal with their father: he would never touch August, and in return, she agreed to let him hurt her as much as she wanted without complaining, and give him half of what she earned in her militia job later. He had always hated her more than August, so he was fine with that.
During breaks from Cogsworks/when their mother was away on militia business, James would take the kids to his estate until Cal was fifteen and began to watch August on her own. He was eleven when James stopped "taking care of them" and was glad, because that was the one time he saw how much their father hated them. He treated them as servants, threatening their mother's life if they told her. August desperately wanted to, but over the years he became shier and compliant, believing his father was right and this was what he was: less than. Cal was furious, but she did what their father wanted because she, August found out later, loved their mother more than anyone and was afraid of losing her. He had been telling Cal that Katarina would send her back to an orphanage for years, twisting her beliefs.
August had no idea. He just knew his sister became darker and colder the older they got, and was so worried about her. But she refused to talk about it, instead always asking about him, and because their relationship began to get strained.
He went about his life seeing how, at Cogsworks and galas, he and sister faced abuse and bullying from nobles who believed they were "polluting bloodlines", and began to feel as if he didn't deserve to take up space. He retreated, making room for other people because he felt as if he didn't belong, that they were more important than him, almost caving to the belief about his blood. August put up with the bullying, begging Cal to stop standing up for him, but she never did. He knew it was wrong to feel like he didn't matter, because that in turn meant Cal didn't matter, and he loved her too much to really believe that, but sometimes did wish she would accept the way the world worked.
He never bullied anyone, but began to believe classist attitudes and wish Cal would accept it; that way, she would stop getting into trouble at Cogworks and drawing attention to August. Their relationship tensed, and they got into arguments. She always checked on him, but then threw herself into helping people in Voxthain and training for the militia. She would vanish, leaving August alone. Truly, he loved his mother and enjoyed spending time with her, but felt unworthy of being her son. He was less than her and hated it, wishing she loved him as her own, which she did, but he did not see it until later. His father never physically harmed him, but he was verbally cruel in private, snide and sneering.
When he was fourteen, he woke to screams, blood going cold when he stumbled from his room and recognized them as Cal's. The rest passed in a blur: his father and five men leaving the room; a sinking feeling in his stomach; running in, heart shattering; then out to grab Katarina.
The next morning, his father and the men had been arrested "for theft and fraud", his mother said publicly. He knew the truth, and watched in horror as Cal confessed it all: years of abuse James had been doling out to her for years, and the (view spoiler) Guilt spiraled up. He had not had any of this abuse, or known of it, as she did it well, and because she admitted to having been keeping him safe by striking deals with Laughlin, but she refused to open up about the assaults, and sometimes, the abuse. August was devastated.
Her whole recovery he stayed by her. He had never seen his value, but his sister had, more than her own. She had sacrificed her safety and comfort for him. This forced him to reckon with himself, to try and understand he did have value, that his blood--and his sister's--did not make them less. Because that belief was what had ended up harming her, and August was sick at the realization he had begun to think similar and to try and get her to stop fighting.
He vowed to make it up to her, and to all the people who, like them, were commoners and mistreated for it. He had already been a part of the militia, but he began to make more of an effort to help the people, to become better. August had never condoned mistreatment, but he had never known how to stand up for himself or others. He and Cal have worked on healing their relationship over the past six years, and they're close now. He adores her and sees her and his own value much more than he ever has before, though he does still struggle at times with insecurity.
August has become stronger, with guilt that eats him alive, and fights for people. He has friends, now that he has come out of his shell more, and feels more at home in his family. He never misses his family's birthdays, giving them flowers, cake, or weapons. Some of it is guilt, but he genuinely adores them, and hates that Caledonia had to protect him because he didn't know how bad the situation was, and froze up, and vowed to work on his shyness and sense of self.
He struggles with academics, being dyslexic, and has been teased about that. It adds to his insecurity, but he did join the militia a few years ago to work on confidence and to help people, and its paying off. He's cunning and a skilled mage.Other Skills:

Faulx has dark curly hair and hazel eyes. He stands at about six feet. When it comes to clothing, he dresses in strictly black always making sure he looks sharp and presentable. He wears a high-end cross necklace visibly at all times however he refuses to explain where he got it. Faulx's choice in weapon now consists of easily disguisable double-bladed throwing knives that he wears on a concealed carry belt wherever he goes.
Personality
Faulx is a two-sided person. People only ever see one of his sides though. This side is his determined and witty side. He's always willing to help, however he's quite secretive when it comes to his personal life outside the militia. He is very precise and orderly, determined to ensure that everything is perfect and always on time to meetings. The other side of Faulx is different. It's the mercenary blood-thirsty side of him. He is a greedy person, desperate for anything that anyone will give him. This is the life he holds outside the militia, however it's disguised perfectly so that nobody will ever know.
Faulx loves taking risks. While some are calculated risks, others are wild risks. Either way, he has a great knack for disguising them. He also loved constant and steady workflow, something to keep him busy at all times. Besides that, Faulx loves fancy expensive things. Yep, he's a gold digger. While he does have a good sense of loyalty, if you give him enough of a reward, he will do whatever you ask him.
Interestingly enough, Faulx likes grapes. It's a curiosity, but any type of grape if he sees it is his. Don't try to fight him on it or your hand might get cut off. Besides that, Faulx also likes plants. He enjoys the freshness of the air in Voxthain compared to Asterath caves. He also enjoys the greenery since it provides a sense of life.
Faulx doesn't like when people bring him things or help him. He sees it as undermining his responsibility. Even if it's a simple good deed like bringing him lunch, don't bother. He'd see it as an insult rather then favor. He dislikes nosey and over talkative people. Being a mostly calculated person, he knows when and how to shut up, when other people don't it bugs him greatly. Sometimes, he'll imagine how to shut them up himself.
Faulx suffers from SSS aka Short Sleeper Syndrome. This is a genetic condition that allows him to function perfectly normal with between 4-6 hours of sleep. It's a great aid to his sneakiness and his value since he is more active then most.
Faulx has some great qualities. He's very eager accepting basically every opportunity he's given. He is willing to learn when given the option. He's incredibly calm under pressure. However, with that, he also has some less appealing qualities. He has terrible time management and he can't prioritize certain tasks over others. He also is overly focused on minor details making sure everything is perfect when it doesn't have to be.
Faulx is omnisexual; however, he never really pays attention to his romantic feelings always fearing being misled and heartbreak. He does notice those he's attracted to but he tends to avoid them at all costs successfully. Hence, he's never fallen and been broken before.

History
The streets of Aserath are rough and killer. Being raised in them is never easy. You're forced to live life with struggles and scars. That's exactly how Faulx's life was. He was born pre-maturely and was a fighter from the beginning. His mother died giving birth to him leaving him to be raised by a fighting father.
Faulx's father was a fighter, literally. He was a member of the fighting ring. Being raised surrounded by betting and fights was no place for a toddler. His earliest memories of are him sitting in a bar watching his father beat a man with his fist until unconscious.
Fighting was built into Faulx. From the moment he could walk, his father taught him how to fight. Fist, knife, sword, spear, gun, wrench. Everything was a weapon to Faulx's father. Sleeping at night with bruises from his practice sessions became a nightly ritual that included tossing and turning in discomfort and pain.
The older he got, the more his life changed. Watching his father win fights became a tradition as Faulx made bets that won his drinks even though he was far too young. Practice fights became more advanced and complicated as Faulx learned strategies and new skills. Sleeping grew harder, but he never became exhausted even though he only found a few hours.
By the age of 16, Faulx was ready deemed his father. He joined the fighting ring and began righting beside his father rather then against the man. The two bonded in the first few years, taking a liking to each other and each others fighting styles. However, when Faulx began fighting alone after 2 years of duo fighting and making his own name, everything changed. His father began to resent him, disliking the fame and praise that his son received. It was clear as day when the switch began to Faulx, but he ignored it. He knew that nothing would come of it.
The fissure and distance in the relationship grew. The two began fighting each other in the ring and out more and more. Everything bubbled over until Faulx's birthday. He was turning 21 and he was celebrating in the ring in another fight against his father. This one went very wrong though... When the fight began, they circled and right before the first strike, his father said something that Faulx would never forget, "I'll kill you for killing your mother." That's how everything changed.
Walking out of the ring was surreal. The screams weren't cheering like it should have been, they were screams of horror. Behind him, there was a bloodied and dead body. Faulx himself was bloodied and weak. He had put up a tough fight, so had his father. But they both had known that only one person was walking out of the ring alive tonight. Either way, killing was intolerable in the fighting ring, and everything that his father had built for him, crumbled the second his father died.
Desperate for a new start, a life not labeled as a murderer, Faulx moved to Voxthain. He spent a year wandering, finding odd jobs that put his skills to use. He tried to prove to himself that he didn't need his father to give him purpose in life. Eventually he did when he was secretly hired by a family looking for him to do a job for them. He accepted and went on his way, wondering how long he'd be employed by them.
The same year, Faulx became a member of the militia. Somehow, he was turning his life around. Everything about his life was on his records, but somehow he'd been selected to be a field soldier. Most likely because he knew how to fight. No matter what, he wouldn't let the opportunity go.
He worked hard to become noticed and highly productive. Five years of solid militia work later, he received amazing news. His actual tactical skills from the fighting ring were being put to use. The new role as tactician fit him much more perfectly and he adjusted to his role with the same and possibly more dedication to the militia.
Faulx keeps his lives separate. The militia is one place, his personal relations are another. They shouldn't mix. He works hard as the tactician, doing everything in his power to make sure the militia tactics are perfect even if he might make a mistake here and there.![]()

______________
Appearance:

Face Claim: Lily Collins
Description: Evelyn has fair skin and hazel eyes. Her hair is dark brown, which goes past her shoulders. She usually styles it in buns complete with combs or barrettes. She is of average height, standing at 5'5". Evelyn dresses like a typical noble, usually wearing long, elegant gowns, which tend to be darker colors like black and navy blue. For shoes, she wears either high heels or flats.
______________
Personality: Evelyn isn't the best person to be around. While not the rudest person in the world, it would still be wise to not cross her. She can be selfish, spiteful, and a bit arrogant at times. She gets easily jealous of other nobles who think they're than her or the rest of the Delacroix family, as she believes her family is the most powerful. She does her best to keep the image of her family intact, wanting to fool others into believing they're perfect. Evelyn is intelligent and manipulative, willing to do anything to live up to the Delacroix name. In public though, she plays the part of the ideal noble almost flawlessly: poised, elegant, and graceful. Her stuck-up attitude is mostly a projection of her insecurities. Deep down, she is a kind person, but doesn't like to show it, as she believes it will bring down her family's name.
______________
History: Evelyn Delacroix, née Devoe, was born into nobility. Her parents spoiled her from an early age, so she was used to getting almost everything she wanted. They were strict with her and her siblings and had expected all of them to marry nobility. Evelyn knew this, so she was determined to meet her parents' expectations.
While at Cogworks, she met a boy named Albert. They fell in love, but there was one problem; he was a commoner. They kept the relationship a secret for a few years, knowing that Evelyn's parents would not approve of him since he wasn't nobility. When her parents found out about the relationship one day, they were furious. They gave Evelyn an ultimatum: break up with Albert or stay with him and be cut off from the rest of the family. They had revealed to her that they cut ties with her sister, who refused to break up with her boyfriend who wasn't a noble either.
Shocked that they did that to her sister, Evelyn reluctantly agreed to end her relationship with Albert. She was angry at her parents for cutting ties with her sister, but she didn't say anything, as she truly did love them and wanted to make them proud of her.
The next day at school, Evelyn talked to Albert, explaining the situation to him. While heartbroken, to her relief, Albert was understanding and agreed to end the relationship amicably. They remained friends though, which she didn't tell her parents, since they knew they'd be angry at her.
A year after graduating Cogworks, Evelyn was elected councilor, a role she maintained for ten years before stepping down. Despite coming from a strict noble family, she did her best to make decisions that benefitted the Voxthain people, although her judgment was a bit skewed at times.
A few years later, she met her future husband Ezekiel, a member of the notorious Delacroix house. Her parents were ecstatic for Evelyn to date a noble after Albert, especially a Delacroix. While she wasn't as in love with him as she was with Albert, she liked him enough to agree to marry him when he proposed to her.
They married when she was twenty. While it was a lovely wedding, Evelyn couldn't help but notice her sister Charlotte wasn't there. It made sense to her, sense she was cut off, but she felt sad that she couldn't be there to celebrate. She secretly keeps in contact with Charlotte without her parents' knowledge, and they both share their anger towards their parents.
A year after the wedding, Evelyn gave birth to her first daughter, Lorelei, followed by Athena a year later, and eventually her third daughter was born. She was extremely proud of Lorelei when she was elected councilor. To this day, Evelyn still does her best to keep a good image for the Delacroix family, wanting the public to be in her family's good graces.
