Sue | 2719 comments Set in Victorian England, Sally is a recently orphaned 16 year old.

Her father died in a shipwreck on the other side of the world, and there are indications there was foul play at work.

As Sally sets out to solve the mystery of her father's murder, she uncovers years-long plots and villains in play.

Pullman excels at creating creepy, scary villains.
