In the Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros
In the Likely Event

When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn’t expecting much. It’s the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful.

Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can’t resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now.

Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River.

Their lives change. They change. Nate goes on to a career in the military while Izzy finds her way into politics. Despite a few chance encounters over the years, the timing never feels right.

Then comes a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy’s life.

He’ll do anything to keep her safe. And everything to win her heart.

I hope to read this one this month, but I may be late. I love Yarros's writing.

Excellent, Randi! Looking forward to it.

Vicki Willis | 1033 comments LOVED this one. I don't read a lot of romance (only choose 3 to read off the GRCA list this year), but I usually do enjoy a few.

One thing I really liked about this one was the setting. I don't have a close family member in the military, but it felt real and tense and highlighted the sacrifices people in the military make for all of us.
The romance part was great for me and there was quite a bit of tense action too, which was a plus.

I did like the authors writing and it is the first book I have read by her, so I will be checking out others for sure!

Randi | 3 comments I agree Vicki. The romance isn’t cringy to me and the military part of it makes it feel more real and makes the intense parts more so

She writes a lot of military romance. Her husband is/was in the military. The first book I read by her was Great and Precious Things and I was surprised by how much I liked it. (I love the cover too.) It about a young man who returned from war, so a post-military story.

I am eagerly awaiting Variation (not a military story), which publishes this month.
