Anybody got any thoughts on this one before we start?

This has been on my TBR for ages. Not sure why I've not bothered to get round to it. Up to ch8 and our main character has found her way to Hexahaven. The initial impression of the school is that it serves as a way of repressing their desires.
First quarter. Haxahaven seems to be trying to teach them to control their emotions, but I think their magical ability is more linked to their natural personality.
Second quarter. Got rather sidetracked by another BR. Not sure I entirely trust Finn. His presence seems to be linked to a rather high number of unfortunate events.
Third quarter. Hardly surprising that they’ve known what the girls are up to.
Finished. Review on home page. Wanted to like this more than I did.
The Last Magician meets The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy in this atmospheric historical fantasy following a young woman who discovers she has magical powers and is thrust into a battle between witches and wizards.
