What did the Irish ever do to SJM?

Hybern is an obvious stand-in for Ireland (look at the map, and the description of the place as a rainy western island, and also "Hibernia" was the Latin word for Ireland).
Every Hybern character in the series is unremittingly evil without any redeeming qualities. The island is described as backward and poverty-stricken (although with a huge army and navy despite its tiny size). Its goal is to colonize Prythian (an obvious stand-in for Britain!) and enslave and/or kill humans. We are meant to cheer every time a Hybernian gets taken down or "misted".
Did an Irish person piss in SJM's coffee or something?
