I had such a good time with this totally whacky and twisted story, can't wait to read the comments when the group read starts :) ty for being here friends.
This was a great read. Relatable in unsettling ways, funny, creepy, harrowing. I hope everyone enjoys it.
I am loving the set up of this, he is doing a great job of creating uneasiness about the weird neighbors and the woods and then the little girl…yikes I’m afraid!
My library just got this in! I'm excited to get it. I'm in the middle of "Chasing the Boogeyman" for the BINGO challenge, but once I finish that, I'll plan to start this. Hopefully everyone will still be chatting about it!

So true, the first time I read it it was also November, I keep missing the good month haha.

Oh man, this was such a great book! I am going to relive my memories of the creepiness of this book vicariously by enjoying everyone's posts here. I loved the whole creepy yard and hedges and gardening feel to this. Gotta love your neighbors!
I’m about 75% in and have really enjoyed this a lot; I really like his writing and his ability to create tension with amazing details too.
Read this one in 2021 and loved it! It's very trippy and violent. Grace is a well-written kid. I absolutely fell in love with her. I could relate to shady neighbors and shoddy home improvements.
Started reading yesterday, now at page 78.Very creepy and unsettling. Weird neighbors. Scary woods where Nevill describes the tree limbs and ivy as if they are giant beings. What else is in those woods? Something that reminds me of THE RITUAL.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that hovel of a house. Feel really bad and empathize with Tom and Fiona, trapped within that new money pit. Buyers' remorse.
Something I love about this story is how cleverly it subverts the hysterical wife, skeptical husband dynamic.

I'm living off these comments, totally agree!

Now at Page 220, Chapter 40. So intense and frightening. This really shifted into high gear about 100 pages ago. I would have left that place behind long ago. I'd rather be homeless than live there.
I think Adam L.G. Nevill is becoming one of my favourite authors, I had such a great time with this book. I'm not sure what it is with his writing but his descriptions are perfect for me, I can see and feel everything so clearly. And what a crazy ride, I had no idea that's where we would end up!
I thought the topic of crazy neighbours was a fantastic choice. I'm sure we all have some stories about neighbours we've had. I've had annoying ones, but thankfully not quite to this degree!
Liked this! It had a lot of going for it- check out my review!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
