Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
The Boring Wheel of Life

Team DIY Disaster
Hello and welcome to the team everyone! :-)
Lots of mystery readers on the team hehe. That shall make the book talk interesting, I'm sure :-)
Cris, can you please link your Wheel shelf when you get a chance? Thanks!

There's also this series I've been dying to start, Broken Bonds in which the main character is called Oleander.

I'm hoping to complete my current reads this weekend so I can start challenge reading Monday. Originally thought this started on the 14th and overcommitted beforehand haha

Nice to see some familiar faces and some new ones too. For those who know me, you will know I can't say no to a challenge.
I am Jade. I live in the UK with my husband, and cat Pablo. I have quite an eclectic taste in books and will read just about anything as long as it peaks my interest. My favourite genre however would have to be historical fiction and romance. I am looking forwards to the challenge.

You have my sympathies! (I had no room for mine, so they all had to go!) Not fun times at all!

Ah, that's tough. Get better soon !

I am looking forward to taking part in this reading challenge.

Where abouts in the Netherlands are you? I used to live near Utrecht, and still have a lot of family around there.

Who has their first reads lined up?
I have some stuff to read for other challenges too, but found an over 400 page book published in 2021 for a double bonus, which makes it a good fit for here too. Confessions of a Curious Bookseller Probably won't be much good, but at least I can get it off my tbr 😆
And my first audio is over 600 pages for a bigger bonus (unfortunately only published in 2023, Boo!) Normal Women: Nine Hundred Years of Making History
After that, I'm re-reading one of my faves! Swan Song, which will get us an over 800 page bonus! 😁
I'll be fitting in some chunky classics soon to maximise those bonus points!
I have several books lined up as well.
The first one will be Das Portal der Drachen because that dragon book has been looking at me accusingly ever since I got it and I really want to finally read it. It's barely 400 pages and fairly recently published so unfortunately no bonus for that one but I really really want to read it, and it has an I character and an E character, which are always useful.
Then I am going to read the BOM for this month The Road Trip for some extra points with the DQs, as well as published in 2021. And an O author for our many Os in the spell-out.
I need to read Der Traum von einem Baum for book club at the end of the month. It's over 500 pages but only published in 2022. I'm a little weary of that one. It sounds like it could be a decent read but it could also go sideways.
My biiiiig project is going to be Words of Radiance with 1200 pages. That is going to be something I'll read over the course of the challenge. Not sure how long it'll take me to read it with other books on the go as well for the various spell-outs, but I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of the challenge. I recently finished the first book and absolutely loved it.
At some point, I also want to read Bitter Blood for page and publication bonus and to bring me closer to finally finishing the series. I'm generally reading one a year and this is would be my 2024 book from the series hehe. Will see when I'll read this one.

Also have a copy of the BOM -

Will see what else I have that fits
Not quite 9 hours to go until we can start reading!!! Woooo!!
I am itching to start my dragon book! Of course the challenge starts at 10pm for me so I may not get a lot of reading done tonight but I will dive in fully tomorrow :-D

As you have probably already noticed, we do not use a planning sheet. I find them tedious and more work than is necessary. If you're used to working with one from other captains - sorry about that.
We are going to do completion posts here in the thread. It's basically the same thing you do on a spreadsheet but I find it sparks more chatter in the group.
Only captains have access to edit the team spreadsheet. You do not have to worry about that at all. Sammy and I will keep it updated as your completion posts come in - we're both online quite regularly - so you can always see where we're at. We will of course also regularly shout out if we need a specific letter as we go along, especially towards the round's end.
If you have any questions, feel free! :-)
Oh, and please remember to put your books on your Wheel shelves! Whether you do this when you plan, when you start or finish books, that is entirely up to you. Just please make sure they're on there once the completion post is posted, thanks! :-)
Here is a Sample Completion Post
Bookcover (please add especially for the colour cover tasks)
Book: the edition you have actually read (for audios, use the default)
Date Read:
Pages:
--> and (!) for any books tagged Childrens' or Poetry etc, please indicate that you have verified the wordcount
Rating: optional but could lead to interesting discussion :-)
Bonus: (not needed if your book doesn't work for these)
- publication date
- etc
Spell-Out:
- please add name AND surname every time (unless one of them is not mentioned)
- please add ALL options the books work for (this will allow captains to move things around if necessary)
This is also found on the first page of the thread.

I like to plan things 😆
And yes, I may have a planning sheet just for me because I needs the precious! 😂 (I have problems, in case that wasn't obvious...)

Me too, I love a challenge spreadsheet. I will be making myself one too :)

Mel here from Team In(f)terior Painting, having a looksee if any hot men may need rescuing from under the rubbles left after DIY Disaster.
Yes, Sammy, this was a hint.... ;)

The Foreman: Karl Urban
Reason: He is sooooooooo good at scowling at people!

The Architect: RDJ
Reason: He knows his way around blueprints and is good at coming up with innovative ideas.

The Carpenter: Chris Hemsworth (does double duty as electrician also...)
Reason: He knows his way around a hammer and an axe!

The plumber: Jason Momoa
Reason: Plumbing, water, Aquaman... There's a link there somewhere 😆

The plasterer: Idris Elba
Reason: Because he is so smooooooth!

The painter/decorator: Tom Hiddleston
Reason: Borrowed from team Interior Painting 😉

The interior designer: Brad Pitt
Reason: Because he really gives off the "impeccable taste" vibe

Catering (very important when you're minus a kitchen for weeks on end!): Greek chef Akis Petretzikis
Reason: Because yum (in every sense of the word)

Over to you guys. Who's coming to fix up your home?

Christian Kane, naturally. For all the reasons...

I primarily read urban fantasy and other fantasy-related genres. Outside of reading, I’m also into hiking and yoga.

I’m finishing another book today, then I’m starting an older witchy Nora Roberts trilogy. Reading it for another challenge and I’ll fly through fast, and we’ll get some bonus points for the older pub date!

Yes! Couple of books in mind Wayfarer's Keep or Elven Doom to start

A reminder for anyone that may have missed it. A new feature for this wheel is bonus points for longer books (400, 600 and 800 page tiers) and older pub dates (2, 50 and 100 year tiers).
It doesn't mean we want you to read only books that qualify for them, but if you're trying to decide between some titles, maybe that will help make up your mind! 😁
Hello and welcome, CB!
Thanks for the links everyone and I am happy to see that we are now complete and all checked in! :-)
Half an hour before we can start, not at all long now!

I'm Sandy from southern California. I'm divorced with 3 fur babies and work as a tax preparer. I'm swamped at work until after 10/15, but then I'll have plenty of time to read.
I read mostly romance and some mystery. My shelf is: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
