Laura | 884 comments I'm checking on a couple of eye books. Mine all show at least some of the head. Otherwise I can do any of the tasks.

ETA: My eye books are fine, so I can do any of them.

message 305: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3905 comments How does this look - Laura, Berit took you at your word you could do any of them (but eyes for Berit).

LaurLa: 👻Read a book with an explosion in the story

Laura: 👻Read a book where you can see eyes but no body on the cover

Berit: 👻Read a book with all the letters of SUBWAY in the title

Louise: 👻Read a book that starts with a letter in SEWARD

Laura | 884 comments That works for me. But I have a bunch to finish for Uno this month, so mine might be a few days.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 187 comments I just realized the book I am planning to read for this doesn't come out until March 13? If need be I can find something else, but it hasn't been easy so far.

message 310: by Laura (last edited Feb 24, 2025 09:24AM) (new)

Laura | 884 comments I don't care if we wait. But, Berit, if you want to change, I can get the audio for A House in the Mountains: The Women Who Liberated Italy from Fascism from Hoopla.

But I think eyes was the only task you didn't want. Would it change your mind if you knew that it was okay for the head to show, just not the body? Donna approved these for the task, so something similar would work.
Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor Gifted Connections 1 (Gifted Connections, #1) by S.M. Olivier

I bet Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus would work, too!

Mannequin ghost:

description

Mayhem emerged from a wall vent at the Stonebrook Theater and attacked a janitor, tossing him around the room. Jonathan, the theater manager, screamed scaring him off. The team has been called in to investigate the scene. Team member 2 finds a Hyper-Ionization Device in one of the rooms. Team member 4 enters the laundry room and finds it filled with mannequins. Thinking that the room is full of nightmares, team member 4 turns around to leave. One of the mannequin heads turns slowly, then it follows the team member around the corner. The team member turns around and sees the mannequin. The team member decides to quickly enter the Wardrobe room and close the door. The mannequin chases the team member and kicks a hole in it. Its eyes are glowing red. Can the team defeat it?

Tasks

👻Read a book with 3 of the same vowel in the title (like Stonebrook)

👻Read a book where someone goes to the theater

👻Read a book with a janitor

👻Read a book with the word LAUNDRY in the text

message 324: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3905 comments Laura wrote: "Did we already have a theater task for another ghost? Or was that in the Clowns one?"

Not sure - that could be kind of a hard one. Really, I could probably do any - just have to do a word search on janitor and theater and see what pops, if anything. But I'll take whatever's left.

message 325: by Laura (new)

Laura | 884 comments Louise wrote: "I will need to go hunting"

Which one do you want if Berit takes the vowels task? It sounds like LaurLa and I are each willing to take any of the tasks.

I was assuming a movie theater would work. :)

Laura | 884 comments I also found the word laundry in the one I finished this morning.

message 330: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3905 comments I've checked and I can definitely do them all. The book I just finished has 3 As. I found janitor and theater as well - so we just all need to decide, I think.

You should see my open tabs. When I find a book that works for a task, I leave the tab open until I know whether or not I'm reading for that task. And then I leave it open if I still want to read the book soonish. :)

Mayhem:

description

The mannequin is blasted apart and Mayhem, a flying creature emerges. It flies up to the stage where the band, Beast of Mayhem, is performing. They think it is a stage effect and keep singing. The beast lands on the shoulders of team member 4. Can you capture it without harming your teammate?

Laura | 884 comments I'll have to search for any of these, so I'll take what ever is left over.

message 344: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 187 comments i'd prefer the first two, but I can probably find something for any of them.

message 345: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 3905 comments I'm going to ask in Q&A about the subjectivity of 'beast' - many werewolf books consider them to be beasts, even though they're werewolves. If it's okay, I can probably take that task.

I know I've said this before, but I always find it ironic (and frustrating) that I always seem to have just finished a book that would when we get new tasks - not just here, but it feels worse here because they're harder tasks. Ah well... the life of book challenges!

I know I've used subtitle for other tasks in this challenge. I would think it works.
