Drace (dracenines) | 7415 comments Last night I sent a message to Goodreads staff asking them to remove the ISBN numbers from an older edition of a book and add them to the newest ACE, since it is Goodreads policy that the newest ACE gets the ISBNs assigned to its page.

For some reason that is completely beyond me, rather than just removing the ISBNs from the old edition and then adding them to the new ACE, the staff member who received my message marked a completely valid edition with quite a few shelvings as invalid and then created a new edition to act as the ACE instead of the already existing one.

As such, this invalidation needs to be undone, and then the brand new edition needs to be merged.

The book in question is Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson.

New edition unnecessarily created by staff: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Edit log page so you can access the invalidated edition and bring it back: https://www.goodreads.com/book/edits/...

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7858 comments Because the status on both these editions was set by an employee, it can only be reversed by staff.

You'll need to contact support again, and ask them to fix the errors.

Drace (dracenines) | 7415 comments Really making me wish staff read messages more carefully...

Once the item is re-validated, would you be able to carry out the merge or would that have to be done by staff as well?

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7858 comments The staff member set the new edition as Public, so only a staff member can change that to Delete for the merge.

Drace (dracenines) | 7415 comments Thanks for the info. Hopefully they'll read my next message carefully. I'll mark the thread as complete for now and bump it if anything else comes up.
