“It was a suffering like no other. And, oh, how they suffered.”

Recreating the séance that led to the infamous Victorian Suffering massacre seems like a good idea at the time. But Kyle Birbeck soon discovers that the ghosts his distant ancestor banished into the walls of Brackenby House in 1876 have been lurking, waiting for a chance to come out.

One by one the 5 terrifying ghosts latch onto each of the students who reside at Brackenby, preying on their deepest fears: A 3-eyed Incan giant. A member of the Hellfire Club who struck a deal with the devil to keep his fortune in the afterlife. A thieving factory hand who fell to his death, torturing them with endless footsteps. An oracle with a horde of dead sailors to do her bidding, and a 17th century axe-wielding executioner with a murderous hobby.

It’s up to Kyle and his friends to uncover the real secrets of the séance and banish the ghosts for good. But they soon come to realise it isn’t Brackenby House that’s haunted. They are. And the ghosts will stop at nothing to continue The Suffering…

but Cassie seems to be a loose cannon right now. She doesn't seem to believe it's happening to her and yet, she seems to be being possessed. . .Eek!

Starting off by saying I was SO frustrated yesterday! On the plane ride home I had downloaded this to listen to from Scribd but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to play, but I had already read the first 6 chapters so here goes...

(view spoiler)[I couldn't believe it when I started reading that these kids were going to play the Ouija Board!! You know that spelled trouble right away! I remember playing it when I was young and man did it spook me! lol

I know, right? Having "ghosts" attached to you, like your own "personal" one would be too freaky! I'd be out of there somehow. lol I understand the smell being tied to the ghosts or hauntings or house or whatever just because smell is one of the strongest senses we have to remember our loved ones after they die, or at least I had read that somewhere & it made sense to me.

No idea how they'd get rid of them, but I hope they do. The cast of characters is pretty diverse and growing. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[LOL I know!!! Run! Run! Run! I like Tad, and I can both laugh and freak out at that scene. But for the most part, this book is more freaky than laughable.

I think Cassie definitely is misguided. I don't think people know if they're possessed or at least some done. Maybe some do but I think you're right...

The voices...not sure but like I said a lot of characters are popping up. All the voices alone would freak me out! I hope to finish this one tomorrow, Saturday. It's now Saturday morning technically so I guess I'll finish it today. lol (hide spoiler)]

I did find that the family member (was he an uncle?) shocking! He was so awful. Interesting that Po was the sentinel too! I wasn't expecting Po to just be guarding.
