Erha - volume 6

I'm rereading Erha, and genuinely love how this and last volume go deep about Mo Ran's regrets about his last life and guilty conscience. I wish they weren't so much sad moments with Shimei tho, I felt so bad when he confronted Mo Ran
I think Vol. 6 might be my favorite one. I love their relationship. I love the respect they have for each other. I was living for the bath scene and the fox spirit the students heard. Funny. This seems like high Xianxia to me. Eternal Love, my glorious concubine, princess Weiyoung, Ashes of Love, Till the End of the moon. These are high Xianxia and Erha seems like high Xianxia as well. Xianxia is very formulaic. Every show, you can count on it. If a main character experiences happiness and love, you can bet things are about to fall apart and the character will suffer. I find it's one of the weaknesses of Xianxia because it's so formulaic. So, I love the moments that Chu Wanning and Mo Ran had together. But, it means something is about to go very wrong. So, I'm waiting for it in Vol. 7. Meatbun loves punishing her characters so I expect it to get rough.
But... This volume was amazing. They really do make a wonderful couple who love each other.
Also, the scene at the end with Chu Wanning with the curtains drawn having to talk to Xue Meng. OH, that was amazing. So funny. Xue Meng has a really great father. Why is he such a double daddy's boy??? So beautifully written. I would love to see that on screen. Poor Chu Wanning. Everyone needs him.
I loved this volume so much!! It definitely feels like the calm before the storm. I'm so so scared for the next few volumes because I know the angst is coming. I also love Xue Meng and his parents.

Good point, Calista, about this series being xianxia. It makes sense that the plot is cyclical. It definitely feels as if this volume is the quiet before the storm ...

I just finished this and what a perfect read. I loved it so much. I love all the smut especially CW's reactions. That hissy cat. Especially that slap! MR just takes it in stride. They both very much take after a dog and a cat. I am so scared for the rest of the story. I have a feeling CW and MR will be going through a lot. I just want them to stop hiding their relationship. *fanning self* If MR ever lets his control slip, CW is in trouble! Although the cover of volume 7 is worrying with MR's angry growl. Anyone have any clues to who was also reborn with MR? I'm completely clueless but sometimes think Shi Mei. I don't know why my brain pings on him but it does. It certainly doesn't make sense. Since he died so early on. Something just feels....off about him to me this time around.

It was a delicious read, right 🤭 although all that sugar and spice does make one worry about what will happen later, since this was so sweet.
I feel the same as you about the identity of the other person who is reborn. Both in that I have no rational clue while still suspecting that it might be Shi Mei.

The contents is clearly focused on the romance but Mo Ran's approach to his relationship with Chu Wanning is coloured by his past and his desire to live life better this time round. How much do we think he has free will to shape his life in a better direction and how much do we think that he will be drawn into the same arc as before?
Obviously, some of you already know but might want to chime in anyway...
