#5 in the Expanse series, back in the solar system. The Rocinante is undergoing extensive repairs so Alex takes some time off to visit his ex-wife on Mars, Amos returns to Earth after the death of someone in his past, and Naomi answers a call for help from people in her mysterious past. Of course everything goes terribly wrong and the team must draw on their skills to survive. Great fun. I'm fully devoted to the series now, no matter how I feel about an individual novel.
This is a deep dive into Naomi's dark past and the fragile state of humanity after the rings - not so fun, but good for the story. Alex gets to meet up with Bobbie on Mars - I love her and I think I love them together more... (view spoiler)[though not together sadly (hide spoiler)]. I thought Amos' relationships were a bit under-developed, but I see he had a stand alone short story, as did Bobbie. Those extra stories may be necessary, or at least helpful, in developing those characters. Coming to the series late I see a recent compilation of the first several novellas for easy access.
While the whole series is a continuation this novel ends on more of a cliffhanger - not as bad as some novels, and with justification to build up the main characters. This novel is more like the first in a trilogy, an introduction to something bigger.
