As of posting your answer, what is the most recent book you've purchased? And, have you started (or finished) it?

Putting aside the 5 books on the NBA longlist for fiction that I bought yesterday using stored up credit at a local bookstore and promptly put to one side until I finish a few others, the most recent book I've bought is Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout, which I started the day it arrived and finished two days later.

I received Janet Frame’s the edge of the Alphabet and a bio of Frank Zappa by his daughter Moon Unit.


They will be read but now with the booker and two review copies which have to be out this week, it will be a while before I get to them.

Tobi Ogundiran's Jackal, Jackal. Bought it hours ago, so I can forgive myself for not having started yet.

I do try to get to new purchases quickly. But I did pick up the new Bhanu Pratap graphic novel/collection and an anthology of Japanese drama from 60s/70s before going on a trip. both fascinating, but I can't get to them till I get home.

It is a few weeks since I bought anything - I think the last one was this month's face to face book group read The Lost Daughter, which I bought in August but haven't started but will read some time in the next week or so.

I have a copy of Playground on order and will be keen to read that as soon as it appears.

There are also about 10 other books on the to read shelf, notably Praiseworthy, which is dauntingly large. Looking forward to getting round to Hackenfeller's Ape and Rhine Journey.

My last purchase was two books on the 9th, like Bill I bought Jackal, Jackal: Tales of the Dark and Fantastic by Tobi Ogundiran, and also Not a Speck of Light by Laird Barron.

I started the Barron right away, and the Ogundiran last night. I am in a reading slow down, and haven't finished either.

The latest book I bought was A God at the Door. It is a collection of poetry that I picked up half price at my local indie bookshop. Tishani Doshi has a Welsh mother and I am planning on reading it next March for the Welsh readathon Dewithon.

In Red - Magdalena Tulli
Selected Prose - Heinrich von Kleist

Haven't started any of them yet, but the Tulli is on the docket.

I think my most recent purchase was The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden. I have Playground by Powers on pre-order, but I did read a NetGalley copy some time ago. I want to own the actual book, though. I finished both the NetGalley copy of Playground and my copy of The Safekeep.

I recently purchased The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston! It is my current read and I am 214 pages in! I also purchased Babel by R.F. Kuang but it's currently on my shelf waiting to be read!

If You See Them: Young, Unhoused, and Alone in America by Vicki Sokolik, non-fiction--still toward the beginning but liking it--it's an ARC to be published next year

Mother Naked by Glen James Brown. After reading the synopsis I just had to have it immediately. I ordered it from across the pond at Blackwell's and read it within the month, thanks to a well-timed buddy read. That's lightning speed for me! (And it was worth it.)

I walked by one of my favorite local bookstores earlier, and walked out with the new collections by Brian Evenson and Mariana Enriquez. So much for responsibility.

And that's only because I stopped myself from buying the new Rene Gladmann novel, and several other intriguing items. All on the same shelf.

The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff. Read it and re-read it but it is short and dense so I don't deserve too much credit for re-reading.

I'm struggling to finish the book Giant Love: Edna Ferber, Her Best-selling Novel of Texas, and the Making of a Classic American Film, a book I received through NetGalley--I'm not sure what I'm going to do: I'm more than 1/4 of the way through and she's just started writing about the book Giant, who knows when she'll actually discuss the movie? So the subtitle is, I think, very misleading. But it's hard when it's an ARC. I hate to be negative

I just read Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt. Can't say much about it since we'll be discussing it soon. If we weren't, I wouldn't have read the book. Glad I did read it, though. I finished it. Despite it not being my usual fare, the book is hard to put down. That's all I can say before the discussion.
