I think the female lead moves to a small town after buying a house where she meets the guy. She sleeps in her car the first night but leaves on the heat and her car dies. She suffered disfiguring burns after crashing her sports car. The male character lost his wife and young son in the twin towers. Kind of morbid but I think there was a description about how they were believed to have jumped.
