Kaje Harper | 17364 comments I'm trying opening these at the beginning of the month:

What YA LGBTQ book would you like to read, or do you think members who haven't read it should try, (and those who have read it can discuss), as our BotM for Dec 2024?

What book made a difference to you, and might to other readers? What sounds interesting, appealing or different that you want to read?

If possible, link the book page on GR and tell us a little about it or why you picked it, or post the blurb.

The titles of past books of the month that we have read are on all the threads in this "Book of the Month" folder, and you can also check with a search of the group's book-of-the-month Bookshelf at - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books... Please do not repeat a book we have read - either as a past Book of the Month or as a Buddy Read (check the Buddy Read folder) - and please only nominate the first book in a series, unless a later book stands alone as a solo read.

Up to two nominations per member. Nominations will be open through Midnight Nov 30 or sooner if we get 8 nominations - the max for voting. Feel free to renominate a book that did not win in a past vote, if it fits this category. (You can find previous nominations in either the old polls (under the "polls" link) or in the "Old BOM Nominations" folder well down the group page.)

Authors please do not nominate your own books - but readers can definitely nominate a member author's work

Kaje Harper | 17364 comments From Morgan:

I'm new to the group but I will definitely share recommendations when I think of them! Most recently I read a YA Queer Survival Horror called "What the Woods Took" by Courtney Gould. Soft TW for themes of mental health issues, and stuff like addiction, loss, trauma, etc. That said, I think it was a really wonderful new book to read! It features dual protagonists, LGBTQ+ characters, and big spooky folklore/cryptid vibes. Basically the kids get taken to "wilderness therapy" against their will, and stuff gets wild when their guides through the woods disappear one day, and then they realize they aren't alone in the woods. Things are not as they seem, and all of the characters have to figure out who to trust & how to survive and get out of the woods. The characters are well-developed, relatable, and all the relationships and friendships are very well earned. I ended up really rooting for all of them!

Joe (eisenbrau) | 2 comments This autumn, I've started reading extensively in YA and middle grades queer lit. One of the most moving books I've read is Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World, by Ashley Herring Blake. Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World

Published in 2018, it's a middle grades novel featuring vibrant, sympathetic characters. The dialogue, storytelling, and emotions both resonate and ring true. Particularly poignant and moving are how overwhelming Ivy's feelings of isolation and loss are as she comes to terms with who she is and her place in her family.

Uplifting, poignant, well worth the time and effort to read.
