I'm looking for a few books, the first 2 are sci-fi about modern villains and heroes.
The first is about a woman who is an evil genius. It starts out with her and the her hero arch-enemy get trapped in an alternate reality and she ends up hanging out with a homeless camp and helping them out by building techy things with her super IQ. A quirk is that since she's a villain, she subconsciously gives the tech she creates an evil appearance.
The 2nd is about a boy who becomes a super hero. Sub-genre may be Young Adult. The boy, along with other kids or young adults, is either recruited or abducted by the government and turned into a hero with superpowers to fight crime. (IIRC) To become a hero they need to undergo something like DNA manipulation, and it is a very difficult process/few succeed.
I think one of the villains he fights has iron skin, or he has iron skin/a jetpack, and he defeats an enemy by slamming them into the ground from far up high.
The third book is fantasy and is about a boy who lost both parents and lives in a hollowed-out tree. These trees normally produce a deadly sap but he has a secret method to "turn them off" that his parents taught him. He fights against the corrupt/oppressive government like Robin Hood by ambushing taxmen's wagons, and ends up becoming part of a resistance and taking them into his tree house when their hideout is destroyed/compromised. IIRC, magic or the teaching of magic is outlawed, and the resistance group he becomes a part of teaches kids with magic potential. I think in this world it is rare to either be able to practice magic in more than one element, or generally impossible to practice opposing elements, and the protagonist has both light and dark/darkness elements.
