Team Challenge
September 2024 - November 2024

Please take some time and choose a team name. You will also need to choose which clown you want to catch first. Choose wisely because some clown require more than others. As such, those clowns will net more points. Let me know when you have made your choices.

Team
Tru
Teresa
Kari

Rules
⛓️Each clown has specific chains and/or tasks that need to be completed.
Examples:
1. Create a chain of 3 using titles consecutively (ABC)
-All the Light We Cannot See
-Becoming Mrs. Lewis
-Catching Fire
2. Create a chain of 3 with "dog" in the titles
-Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
-The Dog Stars
-Hot Dog Girl

⛓️One person should NOT complete a whole chain by themselves. This is a team challenge. However, if a clown has multiple chains and a slower reader can only/want to only read for 1 or 2 chains (they must read at least one), then the other two faster readers on the team can complete the other chains between the two of them.
⛓️You may choose which clown from the list to capture first but you MUST complete it BEFORE starting a new clown.
⛓️You may use or drop articles: A, An, The
⛓️Standard Rules Apply
⛓️Since you have chosen to play non-competitively, you will play a self-paced game. You may choose to stop any time you want or continue until you have completed all clowns.

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Hello Tru & Kari!!

@Kari, I see we are already friends 😀 but I can't remember which game we may have met at 😬. So, I thought I'd re-introduce myself... I am a stay at home mom in my 40's, and although both my children are adults as of this year (yikes!) they still live at home. I read 99% MM Romance books and prefer PNR/Sci-fi/Fantasy but do read other genres. I have 4 cats and like to crochet as well as read.

Tru and I have been teaming up for a few years now but I'm looking forward to getting to know you more too!

message 6: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Do either of you have name suggestions? I'm at a loss lol

As for first clown, what do you think about just starting at the top and working our way down?

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Truitt_T wrote: "Oh glory - a team name...."

LOL - I didn't realize I took so long to compose my post - you must have posted just after I started :D

message 8: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments I should introduce myself, too.

Hmmm....I live in the (currently) hot and humid state of Georiga and work in retail management. That means I have a somewhat erratic work schedule - sometimes I have limited daytime availability, other times (like today) I'm able to post.

I herd cats in my spare time and am active in community theatre. I read a lot of MM, although I've been branching back out.. I'm a sucker for challenges. Turf Wars is my major game committment right now, and it can get a little specific in terms of reading material, so I'm really glad we went NC.

And my thanks to you both for agreeing to no pictures!

message 9: by Teresa (last edited Aug 30, 2024 01:28PM) (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I live in southern Alberta, Canada :D

and I am also playing Turf Wars - as well as a few other team challenges - so it will be interesting to see how this goes. I'm glad we are non-competitive too (although usually I am fairly competitive lol)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments I am NOT great with names.

Kari | 908 comments Hi, checking in and thanks for letting me join you both!
Teresa, I think we might've met in MM Bingo but I'm not sure now🤔.
I live in Madrid, so my time zone is GMT+2. I work fulltime but have a flexible schedule so I have time to drop by GRs every day.
I also read lots of MM, mostly contemporary but I also enjoy paranormal, fantasy, some historical, and I love cozy mysteries of all kinds.
I'm happy going down the list of clowns if you prefer👍. The only name I can come up with is Bozobusters 🤣🤣. Send in the Clowns sounds good to me too.
🤡🤡🤡

message 13: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments I'm so glad you wanted to join us, Kari!

So - should we submit Send in the Clowns and Sweet Tooth to the Prisoner Drop Off?

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments I'll be leaving first thing tomorrow morning and have spotty wi-fi until Monday afternoon. I'll try and check in after we get our task so we can plan our chain.

Sweet Tooth

Marcus "Needles" Kane, commonly known as Sweet Tooth, originally appeared in the Twisted Metal video games series before making his debut on the Twisted Metal television series. He wears a clown mask and carries a machete. He is notably missing his trademark flaming hair for most of the series, although it does appear at one point.

Sweet Tooth escaped from the Blackfield Asylum when the apocalypse started. He settled in Lost Vegas with his best friend Harold, an inanimate paper lunch bag. He rides around in an ice cream truck and rides around the city as a notorious serial killer feared by many. He is psychopathic while having a sense of humor. He likes to perform but expects total honesty from the crowd. He will murder those who betray or cross him.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books set during an apocalypse
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with ice cream on the cover
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books tagged humor
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a flame on the cover

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7441 comments Mod
There is a spreadsheet in message 1 with no scoring that you can track your books in.

message 20: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments Oh glory - this is going to be tough!

And in the last few months I've read two series that fit Arm 1. And I just read a book with a flame. Humor is easy enough. And, apparently, we can all read the same book if we wish, so there's that, lol.

message 21: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Arm 2 will be the hard one for me!

Arm 1 is fortuitous - I like apocalyptic books, and have been trying to work in rereading Books 1 & 2 of Kiera Andrew’s Kick at the Darkness series so I can read book 3! And I just discover they are both in the Audible plus catalogue so yay!

Humour is easy, but fire doesn’t appear on any books I have lined up so I’ll have to do some searching…

message 22: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments If I'm reading the rules correctly, each chain must have books read by at least two of the three of us. Each of us must read for at least one chain.

We can make that work. It may take us a while, but that's why we're NC. :)

message 23: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments And Donna says on the Q&A the MPG Post Apocalyptic works.

I was worried we'd have to find books set during the apocalyse, lol.

message 24: by Kari (new)

Kari | 908 comments Arm 1 will be the hardest for me, I'll go see what I can find. MPG Post Apocalyptic is helpful though.

message 25: by Kari (new)

Kari | 908 comments Do we post completions on the SS or here?

message 26: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments That's a really good question, Kari. I'm going with the ss. I think we should probably group the chains together - Arm 1-1, Arm 1-2 in the justification to help us keep track.

I may go do that now - we can always change it later.

message 27: by Kari (new)

Kari | 908 comments Truitt_T wrote: "That's a really good question, Kari. I'm going with the ss. I think we should probably group the chains together - Arm 1-1, Arm 1-2 in the justification to help us keep track.

Good idea, Tru. That's super helpful.

message 28: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments So I went in a labeled and color grouped the tasks. There's probably something we can do that's better - but it's the best I can manage this morning. :)

Welcome back! It's good to know you're safely home - and that you had a great time. :)

I've finished another book for Tagged Humor. Do you want the last spot, or should I just add it?

Also, I may end up reading Kick at the Darkness for the TW list, too. Thanks for adding it!

message 32: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments I have tagged humor covered although it will be a couple days before I post - however It will be nearer the end of the week before I finish Kick at the Darkness either, its the stupid Ice Cream on I'm going to have trouble with.

Kick at the Darkness is great! If you like audio and have Audible Plus its free to listen to.

I just downloaded it, lol. It's not great for points, but I imagine I'll like it more than most zombie books.

message 34: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments It's the flame prompt that's giving me fits. I've got something, I'm just not very motivated to read it.

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments So... I just realized I can't count Kick at the Darkness because I read it less than 6 months ago... I have so many challenges I forget which groups have restrictions on re-reads! I was going to go with book two, but it doesn't have an apocalyptic tag, only dystopia.. ugh

message 40: by Kari (new)

Kari | 908 comments Teresa wrote: "I was going to go with book two, but it doesn't have an apocalyptic tag, only dystopia.. ..."

The task doesn't say it needs to have a tag, just says "set during an apocalypse". You could ask Donna in the Q&A just in case, if the book is apocalyptic-ish she might allow it.

Truitt_T | 1371 comments Teresa wrote: "So... I just realized I can't count Kick at the Darkness because I read it less than 6 months ago... I have so many challenges I forget which groups have restrictions on re-reads! I was going to go..."

I'm reading a book for TW that's MPG Apocalyptic - I know Donna will take that.

Since a chain can be completed by only two of the three of us, we'll be fine.

The ice cream task is tough....

message 42: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 1371 comments And I should mention I won't be around much until Friday - I have a crazy work chedule today and tomorrow.

That also means I may not finish my apocalyptic book until Friday as well. Sorry! If you find one you want to use, Teresa, and am finshed before I am, go ahead and bump me. :)

message 43: by Kari (new)

Kari | 908 comments I can read another short book for ice cream. Want me to grab that last spot?

That would be awesome! I thought I would just read one of the ones you guys picked, but I don't own them (and don't want to buy them) and they aren't on KU...

Teresa (teresab78) | 500 comments Truitt_T wrote: "I'm reading a book for TW that's MPG Apocalyptic - I know Donna will take that..."

That also would be awesome. I'm going to go ahead and read (listen to) Fight the Tide when I'm done book 1. I may or may not finish in time though.

This week is not coming together for me... although it sounds like you won't have as much time to read either...

Pennywise (IT)

IT is a shapeshifting creature from the species known as Deadlights. IT arrived on Earth in an event similar to an asteroid impact landing in Derry, Maine. Once people settled here, IT adopted a 25-27 year hibernation, waking to kill and eat.

Its true form seems to be a female spider but it can morph into any human animal, nonhuman animal or object, and any combination thereof. There are benefits to this ability because IT can manipulate its targets by appearing as loved ones to lure them into traps or as their worst fears. It's favorite form is that of a clown named "Pennywise" because small children love clowns. At the same time, many people fear clowns.

IT feeds on humans but prefers children as they are easier to scare and manipulate. According to the creature, frightened flesh tastes better and uses fear to "salt the meat".

To capture IT, he must be in his clown form or he will trick you. You must force him into his clown form BEFORE you chain him up. Spell out CLOWN. Then complete the chains below.
C
L
O

N

Complete the following tasks Must complete the spellout above 1st
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books set in Maine
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with shapeshifters
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books that start with a letter in SPIDER
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books that have 25 or 27 intact in the page count (example: 250 pgs or 127 pgs)
