Just kidding. I'm checking in the Q&A, though, to see if a knight's helmet, or a hoodie with..."

But I did find my hat book while searching for a JUDGE book!

Guess that won't work. I have a couple of books with hats, so let me know if you want to trade something here."

That actually can work. My Judge book has a white cover. So if you want to do an extra hat, I'll do an extra white cover. :)

If you're struggling, I did just finish one with a hat on the cover. If you're not struggling, or are savoring, just ignore. :)

Captain Spaulding
description
Captain Spaulding earned the nickname "Cutter" for stabbing a man to death. He is the patriarch of the Firefly family but keeps this secret so he can send victims to his family. He runs a gas station in Texas. His biggest sales are his fried chicken and his roadside haunted house attraction known as "Captain Spaulding's Museum of Monsters and Madmen". The museum has many strange exhibits and oddities including the famous Murder Ride. A few incidents happened here at Captain Spaulding's. An attempted robbery occurred at the location but both robbers were killed in the act. Two young couples disappeared after a visit to the museum as well.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with a father
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books tagged family
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books with a disappearance in the story
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a haunted house

message 165: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I kind of groaned when I saw the haunted house then realized I have a series about a ghost trapper... so definitely a haunted house. That's one down, at least.

Laura | 166 comments LaurLa wrote: "I kind of groaned when I saw the haunted house then realized I have a series about a ghost trapper... so definitely a haunted house. That's one down, at least."

I know they go through a haunted house at Halloween in Hands Down, so I'm going to listen to that one.

I just got the Military category in White Elephant, so I'm hoping The Grey Wolf works for a disappearance.

message 167: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Yeah, I feel like disappearance probably isn't hard but is kind of hard to search for. More like you'll just happen across it. Unless you already know the book includes a kidnapping or something. Oh, oh wait! I literally just finished a book last night where the daughter was kidnapped! OMG, it just dawned on me. *SMH*

message 168: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Found a disappearance in a book I was listening to just because. Not even for any challenges!

Jojo the Klownzilla and the Klowns
description
Jojo is the 18 foot tall leader of the killer klowns with yellow eyes and purple hair. All the other killer klowns show formal respect to him.

The Klowns look like circus clowns but they are murderous aliens. Their names are Jumbo, Fatso, Shorty, Rudy, Spike, Slim, Bibbo, Chubby, Frank, Joe, Slam, Mojo, Bippo, Bash, Killbo, Danny, Crinkles, Magori, Storefront, Talls, Rosebud and Daisy. They invade a small town to capture, kill and harvest humans. The Klowns shoot humans with popcorn from bazooka-like weapons. Humans that are captured are encased in pink cotton candy like cocoons using ray gun weapons. Then the Klowns drink human blood while they are in the cocoons.

There are so many Klowns so each team will be assigned a Klown to catch & cage.

First, you will need a cage: Read a book with all the letters of CAGE in the title
then
Spell out the Klown's name
You have been assigned: Daisy

D
A
I
S
Y

To capture JOJO Complete these tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with purple covers (minimum 50%)
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books tagged aliens
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books with 18 intact in the page count
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books set in small towns

Laura | 166 comments I asked in the Q&A: we only need to do one CAGE book. I can do one if neither of you have one.

I thought I remembered from other clowns that we had to complete each step before we completed the next one. But now that you can use banked books I'm not sure that applies. I still asked in Q&A.

For DAISY, I plan to re-read Fourth Wing in the next few days, so I can take the Y. And then I can take 1 more if needed.

We don't have enough lines on the spreadsheet to complete all the JoJo tasks, so I posted in the Q&A for that one.

message 177: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Thanks goodness I planned to read System Collapse this month! Shew, that covers my aliens!

I have on tap to read an A book and but can probably find any of them. And can happily take 2 if needed.

Laura, since we only need one CAGE book and you seem to have that on tap, why don't you go ahead and take that.

message 178: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I’ll start my cage book today.

message 179: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I didn't know about the banking of books so looked in Q&A and the only question I found was in regards to individual readers... so I wonder if that will apply to us. Not really an issue for us, I don't think, but would be helpful to know if we need to wait on the CAGE book and the spell-out.

message 180: by LaurLa (last edited Jan 18, 2025 06:10AM) (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Ha - I just checked and the A book I was going to read is 318 pp... just my luck 🤣 I do have another A book but wasn't planning to read it first. So much for plans, eh? Anyway, A is still okay for me but had to share the irony somewhere!

message 181: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments I can take the S I’ll be reading The Heirs by Susan Rieger

message 182: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I have about an hour left in my CAGe book, but it’s late and I want to wait for Michelle to update White Elephant, just in case it fits my next task. So I’ll finish in the morning.

I’ll also finish my Y book later tomorrow. Next in the series title starts with an I. So if neither of you have an I, I can do that one.

message 183: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Here's what I have for us so far:

CAGE - Laura

D - LaurLa/Louise - whoever gets there first?
A - LaurLa
I - LaurLa/Laura - whoever gets there first?
S - Louise
Y - Laura

message 184: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments That looks right to me, LaurLa. I finished my CAGE book and added the date to the spreadsheet. I don’t think Donna has seen my post needing more lines on the spreadsheet, so I’ll send her a message after my laptop charges.

She's had a very bad week for reasons!

message 188: by Laura (last edited Jan 21, 2025 07:27PM) (new)

Laura | 166 comments Finished my Y. Started Iron Flame, but the audio is 14 hours at my speed! So if you've got one and you finish before me, LaurLa, go for it.

message 189: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Crap - I accidentally read my 318 pp book because it starts with an A and forgot. Did we ever get an answer whether we had to finished the spellout before we did the tasks?

message 190: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments No answer. But since she started allowing banked books part way through the challenge (remember we elected not to do that work) I think it would be okay.

message 191: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments It still seems ambiguous to me because the post talking about banking books specifically mentions clowns with a reading order can only use banked books for the first part... we've time, so I'll just look for another book. Surely I have a 180-something book I can read!

message 192: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Finished my I book. Now to make sure I don't finish any of my planned books before you ladies finish the spell-out. Thank goodness for White Elephant to direct my reading elsewhere. :)

Ha - I just finished an I book too! Too bad it doesn't also work for S. At least it works for the Ghostbusters challenge... and many other non-team ones!

I had to make a big note on my challenge track to NOT READ my new 18-intact page count book!

Also meant to add, I finished a D author so added it to the spreadsheet.

message 194: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments If either of you have an S feel free to take my name out. I’ve only managed 1 book this week, went to see my mum on Friday, 6 hour round trip. Not sure how much reading I’m going to get done this week we are literally waiting for a call from the hospital to say we need to get up there. 😢

message 195: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I actually don't have one planned other than what I'm going to read for the aliens task but we're in no rush... we'll finish when we finish :-)

message 196: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I have Midnight Sun audio checked out from my library for whenever I get the Fruitcake task in White Elephant. If I get it soon I can do the S.

message 197: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I just finished a book with a series title that starts with S. Double checked and series title works for the spell-out. I'm adding it to the spreadsheet now so we can finish books for the chains now.
