Laura | 166 comments When did we get the tasks for this clown? I finished an N title on Wednesday evening if we want to use it and it fits the time frame.

message 52: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Looks like Louise finished hers and mine are done too as of this morning, so we can move on to the tasks.

message 53: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Perfect

message 54: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I finished my first two today and managed to find books for the other two that fit for the Turf Wars lists for next rounds, so I should have them done on Tuesday.

message 55: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I think I'll have my books done today. Or tomorrow morning at the latest. Although if we lose power due to Helene I won't have wifi for my laptop to update the spreadsheet. But we're only suppose to get rain and wind, not the full force of the hurricane.

message 56: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I only have my Maine book to finish and TBH I won't start it until Oct, so it'll be a few days yet!

No rush. We are non-competitive just so we can take our time!

message 58: by LaurLa (last edited Oct 02, 2024 11:14AM) (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments So my Maine book works as a list book for the next TW round, which means I wouldn't finish until Friday? Are we okay with that or should I finish today? (it works for store front)

message 59: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I think you’re good to wait.

message 60: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments I only have my Maine book to do which I should finish Saturday 🤞

Killjoy
description
Killjoy is a clown-like demon that is the end result of black magic on behalf of tragic individuals who sought love and closure but instead became victims of violence and injustice before being reborn by Killjoy's magic. In the end, after the deaths of their rivals and tormentors, these people who summoned him paid a terrible price by losing their souls to Killjoy. Thus, Killjoy was born and began to murder everyone he came across, prone to driving an ice cream truck.

To capture Killjoy you will need to summon him BEFORE you chain him up. Spell out RIVAL. Then complete the chains below
R
I
V
A
L

Complete the following tasks Must complete spellout above 1st
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with dessert on the cover
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with demons
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books tagged revenge
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books that start with a letter in ICE CREAM TRUCK

Laura | 166 comments Let me go see what works for the spell-out, then I'll post what I can do.

Q: What can we use for spell-outs?
A: Title, Author, First & Last initial, Series

I can do V, L, and/or A. No Is or Rs in my upcoming stuff, so I hope one of you has them!

message 66: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I have an upcoming R author. Also have L and I could do A and I but not necessarily as quickly.

Of course finished a V just the day before...

message 67: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I know Louise has an L, because we bullied her into it in the sorority challenge. I can do an I, but it will take me a little longer. How does this look?

R - LaurLa
I - Laura
V - Laura
A - LaurLa
L - Louise

Louise, if you want something different or have something for the A or I which will take LaurLa and I longer to get to, go for it (but please let us know, of course!).

I might do an Anne book for this round of Turf Wars, but I'm looking at some of Montgomery's other books that have better page counts also.

message 68: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments I’ve got an I that I need to read soon I can take free reading the The Lincoln Lawyer

message 69: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Is this right? LaurLa, if/when one of us starts an A, just post here for the other one. My V is my current audio, so I'll probably be done with it tomorrow.

R - LaurLa
I - Louise
V - Laura
A - LaurLa/Laura
L - Louise

message 70: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I finished my V. LaurLa, I'll be starting Anne's House of Dreams as my next audio, so I can take the A.

message 71: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I should be finished with my R tomorrow, maybe tonight depending on what we do tonight (we're in Savannah... so lots of choices!). I'll post as quick as I can once done.

message 72: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments If you're looking for a dessert book, Legends & Lattes (Legends & Lattes, #1) by Travis Baldree is on the Bookshop list for Turf Wars and has cakes of some kind on the cover. I picked up a copy at my used bookstore recently, so I'm going to go ahead and read it.

message 73: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Finished my R book and updated SS.

Laura, I've seen that book around. It seems to be pretty popular. I may give it a whirl if I don't have an easy dessert cover... at least it's generic desert and not specifically ice cream again!

I've seen it everywhere, too. My bookstore had a used copy, so I decided to take a chance a few weeks ago.

There were lots of books on that bookstore list that probably have desserts on the cover. If I can get a copy, I'll also read The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore (Dream Harbor, #2) by Laurie Gilmore

I’ve read that it’s quite enjoyable

Louise | 73 comments I won’t have my book finished until tomorrow so I can use it for Turf Wars

LaurLa | 380 comments No problem Louise!

Checking in. Is everyone still with us?

message 82: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments Yep

message 83: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Yes, I'm here too

message 84: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Yep

message 85: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments I should have my dessert book done today (or tomorrow morning). But I won't have my last book finished until the start of the next Turf Wars round. Too many still to finish for this round!

message 86: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I still have 2 to read and I'm not sure when I'll get done. I keep pushing Dreamfever down the list - I have to read it eventually for PtP and it's the only thing I have tagged revenge, but it'll probably be Monday or later. The other one is barely on my radar but I'm going to see if another I need to read for Olympics will actually work - it has vampires and other supernatural creatures but can't remember if it does have demons too.

message 87: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments Hoping to finish my last book by Sunday.

message 88: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Sounds good, LaurLa.

message 89: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I'm stuck on my demon book. I was hoping a demon would pop up in Apprentice to the Villain, but no such luck. I'm going to wait to read it until the new TW round starts... so Wed?

message 90: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments Louise still has2, so no problem.

message 91: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments Should have my last book done in the next few days

message 92: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments How are those last books coming? Don't see this is as pressure, please! Because I'm fine with waiting. We're doing non-competitive for a reason. But if either of you are struggling with a book, you don't have to force yourself to finish. My Ice Cream Truck book is tagged Demon 10 times. (Just need a replacement ice cream truck book, if one of you has one.). And I read The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore (Dream Harbor, #2) by Laurie Gilmore . I believe those are cinnamon buns in the window, which are a dessert/sweet treat in my mind.

message 93: by Louise (new)

Louise | 73 comments I should be finished with mine tomorrow

message 94: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 380 comments I finished my last one and updated the spreadsheet. Whew... like you Laura (from the TW threads), my challenges aren't playing well together either!

Kent McCoy
description
Kent McCoy is a loving father who when hosting a birthday party for his son finds an old clown costume in the basement of a house he is selling and puts it on when the hired clown can't make it. He's then unable to take the costume off and soon starts changing, upon contacting the previous owner of the costume he learns it is the hair and skin of an ancient Icelandic demon called the "Clöyne" and that dismemberment is the only way to prevent the possession. Once possession has occurred the only way to release the host is to eat 5 children.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books set in Iceland
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a 5 in the publication date
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books tagged family
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a house on the cover

message 98: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments The dropdown on the spreadsheet doesn't include these tasks, yet. I posted in the Q&A for Donna.

message 99: by Laura (new)

Laura | 166 comments This mystery series is set in Iceland. And several of them are included if you have an Audible membership. Jar City
