I can no longer add new comments to my update feed

Not sure if this is a bug, but the little box underneath comments that normally says "add to my update feed" is missing.

I really enjoy this feature so that I can see my friends' comments and so that my friends can see my comments on our respective home pages, but it seems to have disappeared. I checked other groups, and the option appears to be available there, so the issue appears to be confined to this group.

Any idea what may be going on?

I noticed that the little box did pop up when I posted this thread, and I ticked it, but nothing showed up on my profile page regardless.

The little box doesn't appear at all when I post a comment. :/

The group was recently set to private, could that be why?

Oh, I had no idea it was set to private. That's unfortunate. I assume it has something to do with the recent spammers.

That means that if people are searching for lost books, I don't think they can get to our group or any of the threads through Google.

I also just noticed that our threads no longer show up on the main GR page for books.

For example, Firebrat was one of my lost books, but making the group private makes it look like this book has never been mentioned anywhere on Goodreads.

I also noticed the search engine for this group does not work. I'm not able to pull up any threads at all prior to a few days ago using the search function.

The group search malfunction isn't related to the group going private, it's happening in public groups too.

Ah, thanks, I noticed that the search isn't working right for Listopia either. The search engine is just on the fritz again.

Is the group change permanent? Going private prevents anyone but group members from seeing anything here, which is really tough in terms of helping people find books.

I do think having a captcha to post new posts is a good idea, is that enough to deter spammers?

I don't think it's permanent, just until GR figures out the spam problem.

Yeah, the spammers are a serious problem. I noticed they've taken over Listopia now, too.

I'm sad that there's barely any activity on the group.

I'm not sure if it's because the group is private or because Goodreads has wiped out all of our former notification settings. It doesn't seem like anyone who posts, either now or in the past, is ever going to be notified that their threads have responses.
