This book was very character driven and built up quite slowly, and there was a lot of philosophical themes in the book. Both timelines focused on Peri, with the modern one set in Istanbul at a dinner party and the earlier timeline set in during Peri’s university days in Oxford in the early 2000s. Whilst I liked both timelines, I found the one set at Oxford to be much more compelling, and I really liked to see her Peri, Shirin and Mona reacted to each other and the friendship they formed despite having very different outlooks on life. Peri was a very complex character, but I felt that we didn’t see enough of the other two daughters from the title to really see them as fully developed characters. I really liked learning more about present-day Turkey and seeing all of the stories within the story of this novel.
