excellent question.... When i finished reading steelheart... I felt empty and alone. And i needed something to comfort me.... These are my recommendations while you wait for Calamity to come out... (IN order of recommendation)The Accidental Hero By Matt Mylkusch (Probably the most overlooked book, and the best on this list)
Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow By Orson Scott Card.
Meta By Tom Reynolds (A new writer, and only the first two are out, but this series has that steelheart feel)
and of course anything by Sanderson himself. You gotta start with Mistborn, then Legion, and then onto Rithmatist
MISTBORN is a must and if you really wanna read a cool story by Brandon check out Warbreaker Prime. It's on his website and is where he came up with the ideas for MISTBORN, Warbreaker and the way of kings. Unfinished rough work but really different to see where story and plot lines originated from.
I loved Mistborn Trilogy. I felt the same way after finishing Steelheart and Firefight - I can't wait for Calamity!
I agree that you should read Mistborn next. Then you should definitely start on the Stormlight Archive. For me it contains his best and most intriguing story yet.
It's hard for me to have a favorite, I enjoy all of his characters. I know Brandon has said that Hoid is his favorite.
Mine is Kaladin from Stormlight Archive, he was the central character in my first Brandon Sanderson novel and ive always enjoyed his chapters most :)
