Possibly there was a white horse on the cover and/or a girl in a frilly white old fashioned hat.

The story started with the girl at home, realising she needs to take a journey somewhere. Possibly her name is Ada. She may be a bit snobby. She has a maid

Possibly there is a horse or pony involved. I can't remember any of the details but I remember an impression of the Australian bush/outback and heat.

At the end of the story when Ada (?) arrives at her destination, she discovers or it is hinted that her maid is actually her sister?
