Start whenever you're ready ladies!! Have fun!

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) So, I think it's established that we are going to read Throne of Glass at some point soon, maybe in 2 weeks? Do you have any other books you might want to read together?

Ally Yes. Hopefully sooner that that. We move into the new house on Wednesday, so it all depends on when I get to visit our new library. As long as they have it, I should be ready to start it by then! I can't think of any other books right now.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) It's awesome that you're moving! Could you show me a picture of the house?

Ally I don't think I have any pictures, sorry. :) it's a nice house, though.

Ally I have the book! I'll probably get started on it today, but we can start the discussion whenever you're ready.

Yes remember there is not time line on this one ladies! This is just a general buddy read... not a monthly

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Wow, I actually got started today too, so we're on track with each other.

Ally Awesome! I've read the first four chapters. I thought it was a good beginning. The writing felt a bit impersonal, but made me really curious about everything and what's going to happen. I think I'm going to like the book. I'm excited about this series; everyone is raving about it, and I just love a good fantasy novel.

message 10: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally How are you liking it so far? I know I'm enjoying it, though I don't think it'll be a five star read. I'm on chapter 30!

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Actually, I got sidetracked and ended up reading The Romanov Sisters and Cress... But I'll try to get to Throne of Glass! Have you read Cress, or anything in the Lunar Chronicles?

Bookworm Belles Moderators (BookwormBelles) | 88 comments Just a future reference, please read the book you agreed to read alongside your partner, as it isn't fair to your partner, now they don't have someone to discuss their book with, which was the point of them wanting a book buddy. If you aren't available to read a book with someone, please don't say you will read/start with them.

Yes, I love the Lunar Chronicles. Cress is my favorite book of the bunch :) And no problem, just don't forget to post your thoughts!

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Yeah, I'm super sorry, I just had to read these books for my bookclub and my reading challenge. I really am going to read Throne of Glass, though, I'm starting today!

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I'm on Chapter 6, and I really like it so far! Celaena is the best heroine ever. Something about this Oakwald forest really speaks to me.

message 16: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally She's really cool! I was worried that I wasn't really going to be able to relate to her, with her being an assassin and all. But she has a lot of quirks and insecurities that make her a character to relate to.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Does she have some good development? No spoilers, but... I wanna know!

message 18: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally I didn't see huge development, but then I'd say it's more of a plot driven novel. Still, I think she softens a little :)

what do u mean?

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Like, does she develop as a person, or does she stay basically the same?

oh..........thanks

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Hi Ally, I'm on Chapter 20, and I just wanted to share what I'm thinking with you.

So... I love Chaol. I mean, I have a serious crush on him. Dorian seems a bit boring, but Chaol has a real personality. He's dark, but has a sense of humor, and I think we can all tell he has a growing crush on Celaena whether he wants to or not. One thing I'm really hoping will NOT happen is a love triangle: I don't need to be all wrung up over Dorian and Chaol, because it would be so much nicer just to have some tension between Chaol and Celaena, and then have them run off together!

As to the plot: it seems to be too much like The Hunger Games (with a dash of Divergent here and there). I mean, Celaena is looking for alliances, there are tests and rankings, and then the four best assassins will be put together to kill each other? I'm guessing that will happen in some kind of arena, too. Does it seem like this to you?

Anyways, I'm looking forward to some exciting plot twists and whatnot, and I really love the characters so far (although Lady Kaitlin... Come on. She's so cliché). Where are you in the book, and what are you thinking?

message 23: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally I finished the book, but I'll try not to be spoilery! I agree, Chaol is great. I like Dorian; he's nice and all, but the chemistry between them felt so forced. I like Chaol and Celaena better together but in my opinion the romance in the book just felt kind of meh. Hopefully that aspect of the series is written better later on.

For the most part, I like the plot. It really kept me curious and engaged. I never really thought about the Hunger Games thing. I guess you're right, although I think Throne of Glass is pretty unique as a whole.

I really enjoyed it. I gave it 3.5 stars--there were a few problems with the story that just kept bugging me--but I thought it was a strong fantasy novel. I agree, the characters are awesome! And Lady Kaltain isn't so cliché as you might think.... :)

Let me know what you think at the end! I thought it was pretty epic, myself.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Ooooh, I'm excited about Lady Kaltain! That sounds interesting!

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) So, I'm now on page 210, Chapter 28, and I feel that I must rant once more.

I can't tell if Chaol is actually falling in love with Celaena, or if he's just being nice and father-ish. The ring seems to indicate love, but then he seems so OK with Dorian not being able to hide his emotions while Celaena's training. She, however, is just infatuated with Dorian, which is so stupid! Chaol is the one who trains her, the one who looks after her, the one who sees her vomit day after day and says nothing about it, the one who gives her a ring as a token of friendship, the one who makes jokes with her, the one who KNOWS her. Dorian is honestly just in love with her looks, and her talent at playing music. Does he ever really share a moment with her?

Also, the twist is freaking awesome. I am loving the plot so far, it's just really coming together. The deaths are awesomely gruesome, and they really add some tension. I'll be done soon! Then we can talk at great length with no fear of spoilers. :)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) OK, I finished! I agree, the ending was just epic! So awesome! I can't wait to read the next book and see the plot develop! I felt so bad for poor Chaol, with his little crush on Celaena. Dorian and her seemed a little forced, but Dorian is SUCH a sweet character. I just really like Celaena, and her personality. All the characters are just so awesome! This is definitely going down as one of my favorite books of all time.

This is totally me right now:

Ally Yay! *throws confetti* It was good, wasn't it?

I agree. As their relationship progressed I was just rolling my eyes, like "Ew. What are you doing?" Yeah, he is sweet, but it just didn't work for me.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole love triangle set-up was just some evil ploy and in the end she doesn't end up with either of them. That would be kind of cool, actually, but terrible at the same time because CHAOL.

Anyway. Enough mushy stuff. What did you think of Nehemia? She's one of my favorite characters of the book.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I actually didn't think too much of her (too obsessed with the awful love triangle), but she was an awesome friend! All of the characters were awesome! But really, she did throw me for a twist here and there, and I liked her.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I know you may not trust me too much, but... Would you like to read Crown of Midnight together? I think we should keep going with the series, since we seem to have the same thoughts as each other.

message 30: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally Sure! We could continue the discussion with Crown of Midnight. I won't be able to start right away, but I can put it on hold at the library and have it fairly soon.

message 31: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally Huh. Nevermind. I just downloaded it as an ebook copy from the library. So I can start whenever! When do want to read it? Now? A few days from now?

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) OMG, are you using the OSLRI library eBook site? Because they say mines checked out! Tell me where you got it so I can too, and we can start right away!

message 33: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally I'm using overdrive.com. First time I've used it with my new library.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) What is the name of your library?

message 35: by Ally (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ally White County. But you need a library card with the library to get it, I think. And I might have checked out their only copy. :/

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Sorry Ally, it looks like I'm going to have to wait a few days for a physical copy to arrive at my library. I can't find an eBook of it! I'd love it if you could wait for me, because you seem to be a fast reader like me, so you might read it all by the time I get it. :)
