Chang Tian hinting at something

About halfway through the book, we have this discussion between Chang Tian and Yun Fan (see quote below), and I read it as Chang Tian hinting that he is or was in love with Qin Fei. What do others think?

"You’ve stayed in touch with him all this time?” Yun Fan asked. “I thought you didn’t even go to the same college.” “I always worried about him,” Chang Tian said. “Even during periods when we weren’t in touch, I kept up with news about him.” “Why?” “Guess.” Chang Tian smiled. “Oh.” Yun Fan seemed to finally figure out a mystery. She combed through her memories again, and then nodded. “So that’s why back then you—oh, now I get it. Now everything makes sense.” Chang Tian nodded. “Don’t worry about me. After majoring in psychology, I got much better at channeling my feelings.”
