I remember reading a middle grade book in the late 80s to mid 90s. It was a coming of age story about a boy with a girl as his best friend. Pretty sure she was very tomboyish and had a nickname to that affect that she hated. He was worried constantly about making a fool of himself and found out about the Japanese expression "saving face". There was a whole section of the book that explained what that meant. Does anyone remember what the title might be?
