Meh, I was not a huge fan. I thought the writing was more immature. I get that it is YA, but something about it felt much younger to me in the style it was written.

TheNiceBookReviewer See, I really like the way it was written. It's why I love it so much. If it was written in a boring and basic tone, it would be like any other YA dystopian book and I don't think it would of appealed to me that much.

l i z [save the sharks‼️] needed to get yalls opinion. Thoughts on books 5 and 6?? bc tbh (don't hate me for this pls 😭) I felt like tahereh was just trying to draw out the series, and it could have definitely been ended with a few changes to book 5 if not in 4. do not get me wrong I LOVE THE FIRST FOUR BOOKS SMM (i have spent multiple hours on end ranting to my friends about adam/aaron, they didn't appreciate it, especially after i reenacted some of the scenes in a room full of ppl 🙃) but i just wasn't feeling it by the 5th and 6th. opinions? sorry this was so long and chaotically parenthetical (my writer self is screaming at me rn lol) but pls don't hate me 😞 (just for clarification i was rating about how much i hate adam and how much i love aaron)

Maya Daisy (semi hiatus bc of this lil thing called lif | 35 comments I agree with you 100%!! ***SPOILERS
Most of the things that happened were just unnecessary. Changing Juliette's name to 'ella', the whole thing where she cut her hair but then it came back??, the whole creepy side plot with Warner's dad (WHY would tahereh do that. just no.). I could rant about it for ours lol. My friends are so done with me 😭😭. But I really loved the first books so much, aaron is my true love <3. I could say more, but I'll leave it at this for now!!

Sophie Foster | 33 comments Originally, 'Shatter Me' was supposed to end at the third book and only be a trilogy. That's why at the end of her acknowledgements in the third book she writes that she finally made it to the end. It seems that she wanted the story to continue, though, and signed on for three more books years after 'Ignite Me' (Book 3) was published.

Sophie Foster | 33 comments I agree with Bailey that the writing in this first book is very immature. The story goes in a ton of different directions and the character interactions seem forced.

l i z [save the sharks‼️] so glad theres other ppl who agree with me!! tyy yall. also random question, favorite part?

l i z [save the sharks‼️] also @sophie is feel like the immature writing was on purpose, because of how naive j was in the first book

Maya Daisy (semi hiatus bc of this lil thing called lif | 35 comments I agree with you! I really loved the writing style in all the books, I feel like it really captured juliette's mental state, you know?

Maya Daisy (semi hiatus bc of this lil thing called lif | 35 comments I have too many favorite parts to count lol, but for one thing, every time that warner calls her love 😂😂

message 14: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Foster | 33 comments Yeah, I guess you're right about the immature writing. It makes sense that as Juliette grows the writing enhances and becomes more flowy. I also have too many favorite parts to count, but I really like when Juliette tells Warner she loves him for the first time and when she finds out she can control her lethal touch.

Renee | 5 comments I remember reading this as a teenager and absolutely loving it. But now I just can't stand the writing style and weird metaphors and repititon, it was really distracting. Also, where is the world building?? Are all YA books just romance in disguise

"My voice softens. 'How old are you?'
'I'll be eleven next year.'
I grin. 'So you're ten years old?'
He crosses his arms. Frowns. 'I'll be twelve in two years.'
I think I already love this kid."

😂😂 juliette forget the think, I already know

E.K. Frances | 99 comments I'm too scared to read the thread on this one as I've only read the first book, and I think I saw the word 'spoiler'.

I really liked the premise and quite liked the book. There was a little too much Romance for me, and I've heard it gets 'worse' so I haven't picked up book two yet - is it worth continuing?

I liked the writing style - I thought it was unique - but it did take me *ages* to get through the whole book. James was my favourite character.

message 25: by Renee (new)

Renee | 5 comments It’s tooo romancy for me too but definitely give 2 & 3 a try, the plot gets more interesting and Juliette becomes a lot more likeable in book 3. I wouldn’t say the romance gets worse, but it still heavily leans into it.

message 26: by thefabfairyꕥ (new)

thefabfairyꕥ | 171 comments books like ‘shatter me’ make me kinda disappointed that all ya dystopian books just use the dystopian genre as backdrop decor so they can just romance everything. i love romance as a subplot, but it’s better when the main plot focuses on the dystopian.

also why is nobody talking bout kenji? literally the best character in the entire series

message 27: by Iman (new)

Iman | 1 comments RIGHT?? I FEEL LIKE KENJI SINGLE-HANDEDLY CARRIED THE FIRST BOOK

l i z [save the sharks‼️] REALL think about where j would be without kenji

message 29: by Renee (new)

Renee | 5 comments Omg Kenji is the best. Only non toxic character swear
