The Pillars of the Earth question

I miss the characters, the life evoked across the pages, Aliena, Jack, Ellen, Phillip, the hatred William, Kingsbridge and all. I feel as if I transported myself to Kingsbridge for the time I’ve been reading the book and I miss that experience. Did this happen to you? Any other book that had a similar effect?
