We'll be reading some books that are written or kind of like the Septimus Heap books.

The first Group Read is The Prophecy by Hilari Bell. You can go to the event here

Sounds good to me,but,I don't know if I can read that book. I don't have it,and I haven't seen it in any libraries around..?

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

My library carries the books by Hilari Bell so I think they'll have it for me ... you can always look around the internet and see if they have the whole book on somewhere.

Meghana | 2459 comments Mod
Well,I've tried searching for books online, and it never works

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Then I don't know what else, unless you can do an inter library loan at your library.

That sucks. :(

That's sucks, but I like getting mad...for some weird reason.

I checked a library near my house, doesn't have it. Like I said.

message 9: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
I'll look through my school library to see if they have it.

How about we do a series of unfortunate events?

message 11: by Diana (new)

Diana I think that would be hard to do because it's a whole series. Plus, I've already read most of those books but I got bored.

message 12: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
I loves those books!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm on the last one right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

That sounds like a good idea after we read The Prophecy (unless you want us to change the book).

message 14: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
I don't know...I can't find it in my library, and I can't find my library card for another library in a town close to us. So I have no idea what we should do. Or we could read The Cronus Chronicles by Anne Ursu. Those books are all about Greek mythology. I think that maybe Diana would like these books because she knows so much about Greek mythology. At least I think it's Diana...Diana your the one who knows a lot about Greek myths right?? I loves those books. They are like #3 on my favorite books list.

message 15: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
The first one is called The Shadow Thieves, the second is called The Siren Song, and I'm not sure about the third book. Something that has to do with flying...I think.

message 16: by Diana (new)

Diana Yeah, I love Greek mythology, but those books seemed boring to me. Like, junvenile. Idk, I read The Shadow Thieves and I didn't like it. Maybe I'll check out The Siren Song and see if it's better.

message 17: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
Mk..I liked the first one, but I haven't gotten to the second on yet. But it sounds good. Does anyone have any more group reads ideas? Maybe we could read the Inkheart Trilogy books. So here are all the suggestions. The Prophecy, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Cronus Chronicles. But I'm not so sure about the books I suggested because it's got three books and they are all huge...so idk. If anyone has any more suggestions, please post it in this discussion. And mods it might be a good idea to discuss it in MODERATOR EYES ONLY discussion.

message 18: by Diana (new)

Diana True. I think we should explore single novels, as opposed to series.

message 19: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
Okay, ummm so that leaves us with,The Prophecy. But if anyone does have a suggestion for the group read, now is the time to say it.

message 20: by Meghana, Tie your shoelaces. (new)

Meghana | 2459 comments Mod
I don't know. Just tell me when you decide

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

((Even though Charlie Bone is a series not a single book it's a lot like SH, I think we should read the first book.))
I don't know any single books that are similar to SH.

message 22: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
I like Charlie Bone, but aren't the books in that series really long??

message 23: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 08, 2009 05:11AM) (new)

Kind of, but they're good books.

message 24: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
I know...I have a new suggestion. The book is called Deep, Dark, and Dangerous. It's really good, and it's kind of like a mystery book. But in some ways, it's not.

message 25: by Meghana, Tie your shoelaces. (new)

Meghana | 2459 comments Mod
How about Molly Moon? I just issued some of those books from my library. They're a series. But they don't have the first book.

Amanda wrote: "I know...I have a new suggestion. The book is called Deep, Dark, and Dangerous. It's really good, and it's kind of like a mystery book. But in some ways, it's not."

That sounds like a good book, but how does that relate to or kind of like SH?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Isn't Molly Moon about a dog?

message 28: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
Well it doesn't really, but it's a good book. Molly Moon is about a girl who has these hypnotic powers, but she does have a pug named Petula.

message 29: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
Wait it's a series, and they are decent sized books.

message 30: by Meghana, Tie your shoelaces. (new)

Meghana | 2459 comments Mod
Yeah, not thin, nor fat. I thought it's related because it's kinda magical? I mean the way she has powers.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

The books that are suggested don't sound like SH at all to me, besides them having magic or paranormal in the book.
I looked at Barnes & Noble website the book suggestions for people who liked SH were Leven Thumps Series, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, Magic Thief, Charlie Bone, Percy Jackson, Inkheart, and Peter and the Starcatchers.

message 32: by Diana (new)

Diana Those are all good series suggestions. It seems that most fantasy books are series. Some single books that I think are like SH are Princess Academy, Pillage and Fairest. Series I like include The Goose Girl, The Sea of Trolls, and The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. All three of these are initial books of a series but would be a good read on their own as well, especially The Goose Girl.

message 33: by Meghana, Tie your shoelaces. (new)

Meghana | 2459 comments Mod
Well,I don't know..figure out something I guess. Ask Amanda, she'll know something. Or Thaleai

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Goose Girl sounds good. I would like to read that.
Should I postpone the first group read?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Should we do a poll have the members of the group answer what book they want to read this month?

message 36: by Amanda Kristine, Books & Music = My Life :) (new)

Amanda Kristine (aklukken) | 1803 comments Mod
I love Peter and the Starcatchers!!!! But it's kinda big. Let's see Inkheart is very good, but a little to big. And Charlie Bone is good. Those are not skinny nor fat. Ummmm... I have never heard of the Leven Thumps Series, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel , and Magic Thief. And I haven't really gotten to the Percy Jackson books yet, but they sound and look good.
