Nicole | 19 comments For me it really depends on how excited I am. I have put off reading Powerless and Lightlark as they are trilogies and I’d rather wait for the final book. But with romances like the Maple Hill series and Wild Love, I’m happy to read as they come out. Also feel free to add me if our books vibe

Hana | 58 comments I always wait for when the whole series comes out cause I don't like forgetting small details that I feel may be important

message 3: by Hana (new)

Hana | 58 comments however if a series has each book with a totally different storyline and characters and only the world is the same then I may read them as the come out

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments With the exception of Peter Robinson's DCI Banks series (which I read sequel by sequel on our long flights to Europe) I rather wait until all volumes are published and then read all books back to back. I prefer to do the same with TV series.

message 5: by Pisces51 (new)

Pisces51 That is actually a good question. If it was a brand-new series and I was impressed with the debut I would follow each new installment.

If it was a series say fifth book in, I would read the 5th, then go back and read the first four. That sounds counterintuitive but I may not like the first installment. That has happened numerous times.

My favorite situation is where the whole series is available when I stumble upon it. I go back and read it from the beginning book by book.

Christine above mentioned TV series. Big difference. I would want to watch it from the beginning if I had to wait, so what.

Good comment. It's the same here, It all depends on if it looks like I would need to read them in order for the series to make sense.

message 8: by Filitsa (new)

Filitsa | 28 comments I never read if I know there is a cliffhanger. Usually I wait for the series to be completed if it’s the same story. If something is super hyped I might read it, but usually I regret it… I read forth wing and now I wait for the series to be completed in order to continue with book 2.

Emma Stauffer | 35 comments I always just go through. I’m not that patient

message 10: by Alisha (new)

Alisha Goldstein | 50 comments I have so many books I put off because it isn't complete. The times I don't realize the series isn't done the cliffhanger always gets me and I get upset having to wait to know what happens next.

Mike | 107 comments I read series when they first come out once I get caught up. The series I read tend to be mystery/thrillers. Archer Mayor wrote over 30 novels before taking a break. Dana Stabenow is over 20. Unless the author dies, do we ever know the series is complete?

Unless someone gives me a copy, I tend to read the series from Book 1 to the end.

Lady Grace | 82 comments I usually prefer to wait until they're all out, but I will buy the books as they're coming out. sometimes I start them before the series is completed

Steve Koyasako | 68 comments I read each one as it comes out; I can't wait!

message 14: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 8 comments Mostly, I will collect them and wait. There have been a few series I've read as they came out: The Dark Tower br Stephen King, Michael Moorcock trilogies. But I have a lot of complete series on my book shelves I haven't gotten around to yet.

A series I had started to read as it came out was A Song of Fire and Ice; but when Martin decided to finish his series on TV, those books got shipped to the used bookstore. I'll never read another Martin book, even if he finishes the series.

message 15: by Morgan (new)

Morgan Rose | 89 comments Honestly, I like when a book series is completed cause I know I am able to access more if I’m really enjoying the series. Then again, I like having the excitement when a next book comes out and everyone is going to be reading it for the first time as well(example The Emperyean Series).

Анастасія ꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖♡ | 10 comments If I keep seeing it on social networks, it makes me interested, and I can read it even if the series is not finished, but I try to wait for the whole series, especially if it is about the same characters

message 17: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (brithebookbabe) | 59 comments depends on when it comes to me (:

❁ Ashton ❀ (readbyash) | 52 comments I get too impatient so i read Butcher & Blackbird and had ti wait for Leather & Lark now I've gotta wait again.. I started Done & Dusted but now waiting for the last book.. I will have to re read again. Id rather wait for them all to be complete

Yvonne Bennett (ytbennett) | 4 comments as it comes out.

Kai's Darling | 660 comments normally I'd read complete series but currently I've read Powerless, waited got Reckless, came out. I read it, now waiting for Fearless

message 21: by Katherine ⸆⸉ (new)

Katherine ⸆⸉ depends on how excited or how much i wanna read it but most of the time as it comes out!

message 22: by Diana (new)

Diana Jaques | 134 comments I personally do a bit of both.
I have read a couple of series where I have read the books and then had to wait for the other books to come out.
I have also waited for a book series to be completed before I buy it.

message 23: by Malissa (new)

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments Depends on the timing and who the author is. If it is my favorite authors, I don't wait. If they are authors I am not too into or have too much experience with, but want to read the series I will grab all the books available and read them.

message 24: by Alexia (new)

Alexia | 8 comments I usually don’t get a choice bc I end up reading a book and not realizing it was part of a series. I only ever start with one now anyways bc I made the mistake of getting multiple series when I was younger then hating the first book and knowing I’ll never pick the series back up

jm_________________________ | 6 comments Although I keep making the same mistake, I rather wait.
I hate cliffhangers. And the wait? Sometimes it takes years for the next to come out. It looses all the interest and integrity.

♤Lizzy♤ (Inactive) | 200 comments While it comes out, im impatient but I cant wait for a whole series

message 27: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Coleman Typically I wait until it's done, but The Emperyian Series is the first series I have read as it comes out

message 28: by LC (new)

LC (-lc-) | 4 comments I have to read it as it comes out. this usually leads to rereads as the next book is being released.

message 29: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Rivera | 51 comments I read them as they come out.

message 30: by Susanne (new)

Susanne | 102 comments I prefer to wait until the series is finished or I have at least 3 or 4 books in a row that I can binge read. But with several of the series I enjoy still being written, I do often end up reading them as they come out. Sometimes, if the wait between books is too long, I'll re-read the series from the beginning again to refresh my memory.

message 31: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (iniysa) | 149 comments If I am impatiently waiting for the new book, it's pre-ordered, and I've taken the day off to read it. I.E. when the Blackbird Oracle by Deborah Harkness came out last month. Apprentice to the Villian is my next one. I pre-ordered all of the Guild Codex by Annette Marie books as they came out and read them all immediately. Same for the ongoing Magical Midlife books by K.F Breene! If I am coming into an already established series, and I know it's not finished, I will add it to my list, buy the first book, and wait until just before the last book is coming out to start it.

message 32: by BookishDramas (new)

BookishDramas (sanjibkd) | 269 comments I read books as they come.
If I discover a new series by reading a current release and like it then I go back reading the previous books to update myself.
But I prefer books that are standalones and only carry forward characters/team in the subsequent sequels.
I read several books at a time and too much back story information becomes challenging. And with so many newer pastures, to be explored and time never in our side I have little inclination to re-read books to play catch up.

message 33: by Masha (new)

Masha Romanoff | 1 comments Well in my case I try to grab only standalones but for the mere reason that I live in Argentina and sadly most of the sagas never get complete and of course bought them from other countries is always a risk, but if there is a book that I really find interesting I will buy it and risk the fact that probably I will endup reading the continuation in PDF.
