that would definitely be It Was a Riot

first, because it's the first book that i've read this year that is out of my usual romance genre. i rarely enjoy non-romance books but when i do, they stick on me

second, it was emotional for me in a different way. the story telling, the dialogues, the events, the people, the mc's character, everything is beautifully written. it tugs my heart to know what the mc went through all his life just to get his father's acceptance, and how (i think) majority of the lgbtq community is experiencing the same or even worse.

last, it was an eye-opener for me. i am aware of the struggles and realities of being gay but reading the first person pov of the mc, i realized my awareness is very shallow. there's more to it and it's heartbreaking just thinking that this is actually happening in real life and people are actually experiencing this
