This ship was essential because without it not only Percabeth not have happened (as they wouldn't be able to understand their feelings), but the plot wouldn't have been able to move along.
Also, the whole Annabeth x Percy x Rachel love triangle parallels the folklore triangle which is so cool, they better have august, cardigan and betty on the soundtrack for seasons 4 and 5

yess, percy x tay is a need. imagine long live tv at the end of season 5!!!!
and thank you for your concern 🫶🏼 my finger still hurts really bad, but i think it’ll heal in a few days

yes, i think that annabeth had some internalised misogyny that made her feel like she had to be mean to rachel, even though rachel was kind to her
Yeah I don’t understand the Rachel hate. I don’t ship perachel but Rachel’s nice, and funny, and isn’t annoyed that she isn’t a demigod and js goes with the flow. I rlly hope she gets a novella in another RR short story collection
yes yes yes 🙌 rachel is one of my favourite characters (but i dont ship perachel romantically)
sameee, i wish i was a redhead

yeah, like other people said, rachel gets so much hate that she doesn't deserve!! she's honestly one of my favorite characters and the fandom is (usually) mean to her for no reason.
exactly!!! just because we like annabeth doesnt mean that we cant like rachel when they are literally friends now

yes, yes, yes! and being able to befriend annabeth afterwards!!
no fr! im so happy someone gets it lol

plus her and percy were just friends at the time

A lot of you are going to hate me for saying this, but Perachel was an essential ship. Why? Let's deep dive into it.
Perachel is the romantic pairing of Percy Jackson, a son of Poseidon and Rachel Elizabeth Dare, a mortal who can see through the mist.
Rachel was introduced in the third book, The Titan’s Curse, at the Hoover Dam and she catches Percy's eye because she is clear sighted.
Then, in the forth book, we meet her once again when Percy goes with Paul, his step dad (not yet, but whatever), to his new school. He tries to avoid her as to not have her ask him questions, but she recognised him before he could hide from her, she spotted him and tried to ask him questions. She also sees that Kelli and Tammi are actually monsters, so he pulls Percy aside to another room.
Percy tells Rachel that the Greek gods are real and just as he was about to tell her that he's a demigod, the two monster cheerleaders find them.
RED gets Percy out of their charmspeak and the two manage to get out of the school and they run into Annabeth Chase. She urges Percy to run and writes her phone number on his arm with a permanent marker and he ends up memorising it.
Later in the book, Percy needs Rachel's help in the Labyrinth as only a clear sighted mortal can navigate it, which annoys Annabeth. (honourable mention: rachel throws her blue hairbrush at Luke/Kronos)
During his birthday party, Percy admits that he didn't have the guts to invite Rachel over.
Now, in book 5 is where things get real and we can start playing "august" by Taylor Swift in the background. The book starts with Percy and Rachel having a summer thing (get it? like James called his relationship with August in the song "betty" ). Percy drives the two of them to the South Shore and Rachel tries to convince him to go to Saint Thomas with her and her parents. He explains that the timing is bad as they are in a war and she complains that it always is and confesses that her parents are making her go to an all-ladies school and that she didn't want to be alone. Beckendorf then comes to get Percy for a quest (ignore my sobs on the background) and Rachel assures him that she'd let his parents know what was up. AND SHE KISSED HIM! Percy told Charlie to not tell Annabeth about that kiss and great news, bud! He won't be able to! (I'm joking - these are not at all great news.)
He dreams of Rachel and she has prophetic dreams of Luke and the Battle of Manhattan which make her ask her dad to take the helicopter to NYC (even if she has to go to that academy).
During the battle, Percy and Annabeth see a helicopter in the air and Annabeth saves Rachel when the pilot falls asleep (due to the spell).
Rachel tells Percy that he isn't a hero and that trick would end in his death. She meets Chiron who tells her about the prophecy gift. She becomes the Oracle and becomes friends with Annabeth. And then says the next big prophecy about the 7.
