:) Oooh Happy start!! I am on the west coast so I can't start for another six hours.

D.L. | 1515 comments And just to verify, this was allowed in the last read-a-thon I did, but I want to check here: If we read a book that has over 100 pages but Doesn't fit one of the prompts, can we still count it for pages at least? Sorry I am not detail-oriented eep lol

That's a great question! Yes, you can still count it for page points. So include the pages you read in your daily page tracking total and also you enter the book information at the bottom of the tracking sheet below all the prompts in the "Page Points Only" section.

D.L. | 1515 comments ^^ Cool. TY! Only 3 hours left to go here. I am a night owl so I anticipate starting to read as soon as the clock strikes 12:01 a.m. lol

Denise | 436 comments I added The Iliad to the spreadsheet so we have one for proper title. Sorry I can't contribute more but I have to go back to work Monday after summer off so even 4 is a stretch.

Thanks Denise! Don’t stress about it at all. We’re all reading what we can and even though we’re trying to get all the prompts and compete with the other teams, it really is just for the fun and excitement of reading together.

Betty | 233 comments We were the only team still without a name, so I went with Better Off Read.

D.L. | 1515 comments Okay I think I filled out the spreadsheet right for Day 1. Hope you're all enjoying your books :)

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments Don't forget to scroll all the way to the right on the tracking sheet & fill in your page count for the prompt you've fulfilled! I also took the liberty of adding a light green fill to the prompt I completed (deities). If we keep doing that as prompts are completed, we'll be able to see at a glance what still needs to be done. Hopefully that will help simplify things as we go along.

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments Just wanted to pop in & say that I didn't get as much reading done yesterday as I'd hoped to. I had a migraine, & once it finally went away, my daughter wanted me to binge watch "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" with her on Netflix. We did a mother/daughter book club on it last year & now she's making her way through the sequels. I only have her half the week (50/50 custody) so I prioritized hanging out with her.

But I have finished three books so far. I'm going to try to get my hands on a copy of Lady Macbeth once it comes out on Tuesday & that would be another that qualifies for "proper title". No promises, I'll do my best. I'm aiming to check the fruit/vegetable prompt off the list today.

Hanging out with your daughter absolutely is first priority. Family comes first :) Hope your migraine goes away.

Definitely prioritize time with family. Even though this is a “competition”, the point is to have the fun and excitement of reading together for a goal. No need to stress about this.

Betty | 233 comments Denise - I know you're back to work today, but just wanted to check in. On the tracking sheet, there is a spot for how many pages you read each day. Would you be able to fill in your numbers for Friday, Saturday, & Sunday? Or you can just let me know the pages read and I'll fill it in. Thanks :)

Oh sorry I didn't even notice that. I was about to check in that I will be finishing The Iliad and The Beekeeper of Aleppo both by tomorrow night

message 65: by Denise (last edited Aug 05, 2024 10:34AM) (new)

Denise | 436 comments I have about 60 pages of the Iliad left and 120 in Beekeeper, I will finish both tomorrow. I got a lot of reading done during the "meetings" this am lol

So I will be adding 180 or so pages today

I can read If Cats Disappeared by Wednesday

JennH | 921 comments I just wanted to give a heads up that something's come up the rest of this week, and while I'll still be reading - albeit perhaps a little slower - I might not be able to update the spreadsheet. If I cannot, I will try to post my numbers here, so hopefully someone else can update the spreadsheet for me. Sorry for any inconvenience!

No worries. One of us will be happy to help. Take care and rest easy :)

It works there and it works in Bugs too. We can always move if necessary.

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments I was looking over my library books that need to be returned soon & I've got one that only fits one prompt: body part. It has hands on the cover. We have so many books slotted into that spot in our tracking spreadsheet that I feel bad taking one! Does anyone have any major objections?

I'm also planning to wrap up the children's toy prompt today & am still going to cover the planet prompt. I added The Manicurist's Daughter to my TBR, which is a wealth of prompts: blue, body part, flower, occupation, accessory, family member. I also have Interesting Facts about Space, which could count toward something seen in the sky, with the comet/shooting star.

I'm trying to read a book a day, so just give me a holler if there's a prompt that needs particular attention but for now I've got: children's toy, planet, & one body part.

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments Also, Betty, there's something up with the "completed" spreadsheet. The last couple of completed books have not registered in the status column. I changed them manually, but probably the formula just needs to be extended across more columns.

Same goes for the planning tab.

Thanks for the heads up - I extended the range of the formulas.

message 74: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments Great job, everyone!

Today or tomorrow I'll finish a book filling one for the double "Things in the Sky." My next could be another for that prompt or another for "Building" depending.

Ciara - those plans sound great and thanks for being so flexible with what you read.

message 75: by JennH, Cheerleader (new)

JennH | 921 comments I finished Charlotte’s Web, which I’d been thinking for animals, but please place where needed.

I’ve started The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel which can go for a number of prompts, if I recall correctly.

If anyone can enter these books, so you can better see the bigger picture of what we still need. Otherwise I should have access to a computer tonight to add my info. Thanks!

message 76: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments I'll try to add them for you and see where they fit :)

message 77: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments I put Charlotte's Web under bugs because of the spider Charlotte. I think that works and now the 'bugs' category is complete and we got all the points for it.

I'm not seeing what's wrong on the planning sheet since early this afternoon when I updated the formulas. Can you tell me specifically where you're noticing the updating problem?

message 81: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments ^^ One thing is when I added The Book of Lost Names for JennH to the planning sheet and put X's in the books for possible prompts it fills, it didn't update the number up top. I don't think it really matters it just seemed strange.

message 82: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments It's fixed now. Whenever I add columns the formulas need to be updated and I see that one didn't copy over correctly. Thanks for letting me know.

message 83: by Jaida (new)

Jaida (jaidaswift) | 330 comments hi all, i've just finished my last full length novel i had assigned for this readathon, so my tbr is open if there are any prompts that may need another book to complete said prompt.

message 84: by Ciara (new)

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments Jaida, if you have anything for element or proper title, it seems like those prompts could use a boost. Also vehicles & something you find in a garden?

message 85: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments I need to look at where we are with the prompts when I get home from work this afternoon. I think Chain of Gold might work for element, out of the several prompts it qualifies for.

message 86: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments Actually, it looks like weapon is the best fit for Chain of Gold for now, meaning we still need one for Element. If we got 2 for body parts and used If Cats Disappeared from the World for Animal, then we could move Murder on a Starry Night to Weapon and move Chain of Gold to Element. There's a lot to try to juggle.

Actually I am going to be able like to finish Erasure, which I had 101 pages left in on August 2, and it has a weapon and a body part on the cover. Does that help?

Erasure by Percival Everett

Thank you, D.L.!

Yesterday ended up being more exhausting than anticipated and I wasn't able to get on the computer. Today I got in some audio time but didn't get in as much reading as I thought I could.

Betty | 233 comments Denise wrote: "Betty wrote: "Actually, it looks like weapon is the best fit for Chain of Gold for now, meaning we still need one for Element. If we got 2 for body parts and used If Cats Disappeared from the World..."

Definitely helpful. We still need 2 for body part. There are 14 books planned that could work for it but many of them may end up being used for a different prompt. Is anyone planning on reading a body part book and counting it for that prompt rather than another one?

message 90: by Jaida (new)

Jaida (jaidaswift) | 330 comments i put Daddy by emma cline in for 'family member' but if someone else can fulfil that prompt, i can move it to vehicle and complete that double prompt with another book.

i'll add the following books to the planning page, but not guarantees i'll be able to read them all. i should be able to get to a few more though.

1. Moon of the Crusted Snow (vehicle + others)
2. Princess of Souls (royal title)
3. Chain of Iron (element + others)
4. Honor Bound (planets)

The Book of Lost Names would work for arms (body part). it shows arms holding a book :)

I don't know if Murder on a Starry Night would work as a weapon because the method of death was poison and later a rock. It might work under type of crime though.

message 93: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments I am going to start The Ring for Accessory. What else do we really need a fill for? :)

message 94: by Ciara (new)

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments I finished Butter: A Novel of Food and Murder last night & plugged it into body part. I'm going to read The Mars Room today for the planets prompt. I just picked it up from the library yesterday; it took longer than anticipated for the library to transfer it over. I have books that would work for pretty much any remaining prompt, but was planning to read Interesting Facts about Space next for "something you'd see in the sky" or "shade of blue" prompts.

Let me know if there's something more pressing that needs attention. I have books for pretty much every prompt save for "proper title" & probably "element".

message 95: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments Leaving all completed books in the prompt they are currently being used for, the biggest needs are definitely "Proper Title" and "Type of Crime"

message 96: by Denise (new)

Denise | 436 comments Betty wrote: "Leaving all completed books in the prompt they are currently being used for, the biggest needs are definitely "Proper Title" and "Type of Crime""

I can read The Prince instead of The Catcher In the Rye, they are about the same length. I probably can't do both. I just added Erasure to the spreadsheet, i will finish it tonight and pick a prompt....it can be weapon, family member or body part

message 97: by Ciara (last edited Aug 08, 2024 09:41AM) (new)

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 209 comments I have My Murder, I can add that to my TBR. The Mars Room is reading quickly even though it's over 300 pages. I should be able to finish it today & also finish or at least make serious headway on a second book today as well.

message 98: by D.L. (last edited Aug 08, 2024 11:33AM) (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments I have Princess in the Spotlight that could work for Proper Title. I can start it after The Ring for Accessory if that works??

message 99: by JennH, Cheerleader (new)

JennH | 921 comments I finished The Book of Lost Names. I ended up slotting it for color blue bc it seemed to have the least currently reading books for it. Feel free to move.

I've also started Siren Queen for the proper title prompt.

message 100: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments It looks like perhaps we'll have enough Proper Title books now, so I'll focus on Type of Crime actually. Which is fine because I have lots of mystery books :)
