I read this around 2010-2013 maybe.
I think the front cover had a sword on it, or the title mentioned a sword. Or was it a tree?

The protagonist's family was in a car crash and the bad guy had somehow managed to keep them comatose in a eggsack like thing. He told a giant to swallow the eggsack, but another giant covered the bad giant's nose and mouth to force him to open his mouth and retrieve the family.
