Shahrazad Salman (judypendleton) | 28 comments I am someone who loves to break spines of books and I don't mind it becoming a bit crinkled in my bag, because it looks like it has been read and loved. Some people have called me a monster, because my books do not look brand new, like I just bought it. But tbh I don't understand this trend of people barely being able to read because they are scared to ruin the spine and they always want their books to look brand new and untouched.
Are you the person who likes to break spines or do you prefer your book always look brand new? Let's have a discussion!

becs | 178 comments for me personally, the very purpose of a book is to read it, and hence, love it! I agree with you. I mean in general, to each their own when it comes to books, but I dont see anything wrong with breaking it in, annotating it or highlighting if you please.

Hana | 58 comments I don't really like breaking the spine cause I feel like it damages the book and might sometimes make the writing on it not very visible. However, I do write inside and highlight and doodle and everything, and often, the covers of the books I read are always a little damaged at the corners, and I don't mind it. So yeah. Maybe I don't like breaking the spine, but anything else I don't mind, and I'll willingly do.

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I never quite understood WHY readers break the spine? There are plenty of bookmarks available. So I can put a bookmark in the book I'm reading and don't need to break the spine.

Maybe spine breaking is something people do with paperbacks?
I only read and buy hardbacks.

Jill Bautista | 28 comments I guess it's not for everyone, but I like breaking a book's spine. I own several books that have had spines broken, and it doesn't matter to me.

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments To each their own. Do what you want with your books and they can do what they want with theirs. If I need to break the spine on mine I will, I don't dog ear my books, I will write in them because any books I buy I tend to keep. I don't buy a lot though. I read mostly ebooks.

Shahrazad Salman (judypendleton) | 28 comments I just realised that I wrote the title wrong ( ⚈̥̥̥̥̥́⌢⚈̥̥̥̥̥̀) it should be "A book should look like it has been read, loved and lived in".

I love all of your opinions! Thank you so much for commenting!(◍•ᴗ•◍)❤

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments There are a few books where I can lose myself inside and live in there for a few days. One of them is "Coming Home" by Rosamunde Pilcher, "Winter Solstice" (also by her) is another one.
They don't write such wonderful novels anymore. :( :( :(
