Fiction - Adaptation of The Great Gatsby with Chinese (?) lead character

I was talking to a woman today about The Great Gatsby. She said she recently read a take-off on the Gatsby story, but with the main character being Chinese or had come from China on a boat at the beginning of the story.

I think she said she thought it was a recent book, but that could be wrong.

She couldn't remember the title or author.

Any ideas?

Could it be The Chosen and the Beautiful?
wikipedia describes it as " a fantasy retelling of The Great Gatsby from Jordan Baker's perspective reimagined as a Vietnamese Immigrant with suppressed magical powers" it was published in 2021.

Maybe. I also found that while I was searching for possibilities, but I got the impression that the story the woman read was focused on the Gatsby-type character, rather than Jordan.

I know of four other LGBT takes on The Great Gatsby, although I don't know if they'll be helpful with finding a Asian MC here Tell Me My Name, Great, Self-Made Boys: A Great Gatsby Remix and The Pursued and the Pursuing.
