I know there are several common popular books that are recommended to people and we are dying to check them out only to be very disappointed by aggressive plots or scenes that just ruin it. But of course, everyone has different things that they consider triggers. For me it’s anything that I feel goes above and beyond (think the scene of the walking dead where Glenn dies, can we say- overkill? Or how about the numerous rape scenes or animal cruelty scenes depicted in movies and TV shows, can’t we just mention it in the back story, why does it have to be so descriptive and elaborate or be continually brought up time and time again throughout the book).

So here I will post books that I have read that definitely crossed the line for me and tell you why so you can determine if it might be triggering for you.

Please feel free to share books that you felt were triggering as well and why.

My first DO NOT READ book is…

Bear Town by Fredrik Backman

Trigger Warnings (TW): rape

The book is all about a teenage girl being raped by a classmate at a party and the whole town doesn’t believe her.

I wanted so badly to enjoy this book but not only was the initial scene horrible, but it kept being revisited throughout the book. I ended up not finishing the book and gave it away because I just thought it was gross.
