Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Okay, I need some advice. I keep hearing a lot of great things about the Kate Daniels series by Ilona
Andrews but I'm kind of weary about buying them because I heard the third book leaves you kind of hanging (and the 4th one doesn't come out for nearly 7 months). So, my question: is it worth it to start the series now or should I hold out? I also heard that even though the series is great, there isn't alot of steamy moments between the two main female/male characters (Kate and Curran, right?) Is that true?

I appreciate any advice and/or suggestions you can give me on this series.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments This is my favorite UF series, hands down. However, the important thing to remember is it is UF - so the pages of steamy sex you'd expect from a PNR just aren't here. Kate and Curran's relationship is a slow building one - but so worth it.

I wouldn't say that any of the books end on any particular cliff-hanger. The main focus story line is wrapped up with each book, but we do learn more and more about the characters that keep you anxious for the next books.

Magic Strikes is my book of the year so far, so I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it. Am I dying for Magic Bleeds? Without question, but that's simply because I love the series and hate that we have to wait a year between books. (Thankfully On the Edge was so good, that now I'll have one book of each series to look forward to each year now).

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Thanks for the advice DarkHeart! I'm still kind of torn. I'm all for a great series but I hate having to wait. I have so many series going right now that its hard to keep up with them all. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to start a new unfinished series but that never happens. *sigh* I might as well suck it up and read it anyway. ;-)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I agree with everything Darkheart said also keep in mind that the first book can be a little tedious but its so worth it. This is a great series.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I felt the same way Jael did about the first book - took some time to get into but it was worth it in the end. However, 100 pages into Magic Burns and I gave up. I was so bored! I mean, I still plan to finish it, but I had heard such great things about it and then I kept falling asleep. Major bummer.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments I'll agree with Jael and Nichole about Magic Bites. Kate's world is quite different from other's I've read and it took some time to really understand it. I put the book down after about 50 pages on the first attempt, and went and read something else before giving it a second try. So, if you initially find it a bit hard going, stick it out and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just remember that in Kate's world vampires are as far from sexy as you can get - but shape-shifting lions, well they're something else entirely. ;)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 253 comments So I am one who has mixed feelings about this series.... not to make your decision even more confusing Jessa..... On one hand I love the world that she builds and the concept of the whole series, BUT I do find it a little boring and I want the relationship with Kate and Curran to move along faster... Now yes i know this is UF and i'm not saying I want or need it to be all about sex, but I think some more sexual tension would make it a little more enjoyable... I still have the 3rd book to read and I do plan on continuing the series, it is good and sometimes it is a nice break from some of the other series I read that are way more PNR, but it does leave me wanting for a little more.....

Lory (moty) | 103 comments Ok so I don't want to sounds ignorant, but can somebody tell me what UF stands for? :S thank you

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) One of the problems I think I have with this series is that it's too visual. They've created a really unique and original world which is really interesting and would work great on screen, but in a book it just doesn't work as well. They have to stop to describe all kinds of little things, and I have a hard time visualizing what they're describing and it distracts me from the story.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) UF stands for urban fantasy. There are multitudinous threads on goodreads explaining and debating the difference between urban fantasy and paranormal romance (PNR) but I just recommend going to wikipedia.

You'll absolutely love the third book, it has exactly what you're looking for. Just thinking about the last page of Magic Strikes is making me smile. Curran is wicked! ;-) I can't wait for Magic Bleeds.

Ditto for me. This is my favorite UF/PNR series I've read so far, hands down. I will take 1 Kate/Curran snarky sexual tension scene over 10 gratuitous sex scenes any day. Don't get me wrong, I like me some sex scenes, but not just for the sake of it, kwim? I believe it with Kate & Curran, reading about them gets me giggly. :)

I read all 3 of them in about 4-5 days--throw in work, kids & house, and subtract sleep. :)

I don't dwell between books/series, once I finish one I pick up the next. After I finished the Kate Daniels 3 books I started on Richelle Mead's Storm Born and could not get into it--I kept thinking about Kate Daniels--ok fine, maybe I was thinking about Curran. :)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Oh that Beastlord is hard to get out of your mind after reading these books.

Melissa Laura, they totally make me giggly, too!!!! I am so NOT the giggly type, but boy do I love the chemistry between these two. The third book was the best and I, too, am looking forward to the next book. I think these are great for any genre reader.

Sabrina I started the first book in this series months ago but was kinda bored so I put it down. Based on some of the comments here I think I might pick it up again. It sounds like it must might be a slow starter.

Mrs. Badass (mrsbadass) | 25 comments I love this series. I was hooked from the get go, it did start a bit slow, but it was still interesting. I have a hard time NOT finishing a book. I only had that happen once (Jodi Picoult) I found the sexual tension and promise so refreshing. I really enjoy Kate and Curran's interactions. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for some steamy love happening, and quite frankly, I hope we get some for real in Magic Bleeds... or I might just be angry... LOL (altho from reading the excerpt from On the Edge... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR there better be a dam good reason he didn't show) Ok anyways... I find Kate Daniels on par with Mercy Thompson. A strong, capable kick ass heroine. Not needing to depend on a man. I like that.

YAY glad to hear it Amy! Thanks!

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Each book is better than the last, and while I'm in it to win it because of Kate & Curran, I love the actual story lines too, I swear. :)
