Rebecca Overton | 15 comments I was thinking today about novels and authors that I love and how, instead of just reading all of their books, I should branch out into authors that are similar. A Google search of "Authors like Paul Auster" brought me nothing until I got way down toward the bottom of the first page.

There, I found this: https://www.literature-map.com/Kurt+V...

I am not sure who created this and cannot vouch for the full accuracy, but found it to be a fun exercise.

Type in an author, see a map of similar authors, go down gigantic literary rabbit hole, repeat.

Happy Reading!
Rebecca

Interesting that when I do Rushdie Peter Carey comes up?

Rebecca Overton | 15 comments I too found that interesting. And when I did Dickens, he did not

Debra | 61 comments This was a fun site! Authors that came up for Peter Carey were an eclectic list (many of whom I don’t know). I’m finding that authors I’ve read for this podcast are now jumping out at me in the book stores! I recently ran into another Peter Carey book, True History of the Kelly Gang, in our used book store. I didn’t buy it right away because I had too big of a stack, but after checking it out on Wikipedia I see it won the Booker prize, so I think I will have to go back after it!

Debra: "The True History of the Kelly Gang" is my favorite of the Peter Carey books that I have read. I am also quite fond of "Illywhacker".

Debra | 61 comments I’d better get back to pick it up then. Jack Maggs wasn’t in my top 5, but not in my bottom 5 either, and I think this one looks pretty interesting. I didn’t see it on the Boxall list, but may have missed it, as I don’t have a listing by author.

Peter Carey only has two books on the curated list: "Jack Maggs" and "Oscar and Lucinda". Neither of those books is as good as "Illywhacker" in my opinion.

Debra | 61 comments Will watch for that one too then!
