Does Temperature Affect Your Reading In Any Way? (7/7/24)

Kinda hot here on the east coast of the U.S. (as well as many other parts of the U.S. and the world)...

Does temperature (indoor or outdoor) affect your reading in any way (how much you read, when you read, what you read, where you read, etc.)?

Heat beats the hell out of my reading reducing my comprehension and speed, causing me to fall asleep while reading and somtimes leaving me too dizzy to read at all. Of course this is a complication mostly caused by my meds.

Presumably, you have some way to alter the heat (guessing air conditioning, but not opposed to picturing you in the shade with hired help employing large ostrich feathered fans)?

I do but the old heat pump doesn't it cool it much more than to the high 80'sF in the heat and humidity of summer.

Yes - every summer my reading takes a beating- I find my mind wanders off in ten page intervals. Despite air conditioning, fans etc

Great question, and great week to be asking this question. We are in currently in a recording breaking historic heat wave that hasn't happened in Central California since the Dust Bowl, two weeks straight of temperatures near 110 or above. Today was predicted to hit 114 but I think it hit 113 and tomorrow and the next 5 or 6 days will be similar. It's a bit more energy for me to read when it is this hot, despite air conditioning (which I am afraid to run too low because of crazy energy bills) , I generally am more of a late night reader in summer and an early morning reading in other seasons in general .

I can't imagine stringing full sentences together in that sort of heat ! Here in temperate Northern England such temperature extremes are unlikely , at least for the moment .
